I'd personally rather sacrifice some light for more zoom. BUT I love that these types of lenses are available. Always a perfect lens for a specific type of scenario. Nothing wrong with choices.

You just keep bringing it. With your Hollywood good looks and Canadian charisma how can we say no? I was so happy with my 24-70 f2.8 Sigma for my studio videos until today. I keep it set at about 35mm, which works well for us noobs. But the f1.8 is a game changer. Your bokeh balls are so much better than mine. I gotta have this lens. Going on the pre-order list now.

I'd love to see Sigma refresh the 18-35mm F1.8 for newer mounts. Looking at the lineup and each mount has been succeeded. If they can pull off E, RF, and Z mount refreshes and maybe a slightly new sensor and kept it around $700-800, I could see a lot of people pivot from the bulk of F2.8 zooms we've been getting on APS-C for some time now

Sigma also makes a 24-70mm F2.8 and a 28-70mm F2.8 and those are great too. F1.8 is nice but for those one-shot-is-all-you've-got manual focus videos, which I do a lot, it's too scary to not stop down.

I enjoyed watching your videos. Watching vidoes about these type of lens makes me appreciate that I only tend to use prime lens 😂😂😂 a prime lens at 1.8 often is cheaper then a zoom lens. For the price of this lens I could get a G9II or an S5ii lol.

For that small of a zoom range I'd probably just go for a much lighter prime, but great video either way. Love Sigma and what they are doing!

With a 35mm prime, you get a range of 35 - 52.5mm with clear image zoom. With this lens, however, you get 28 - 67.5mm, which is not bad at all. In fact, the question is how often you need more than that. You could use something like a 20mm lens to cover the wide range and a with a 70mm prime you get a 105mm equivalent with clear image zoom. Bur if you are producing for web, nobody will notice if you scale that 4k footage 150% up which gives you a range of 28-100 mm. So you can get rid of that 70 mm lens too and all you need is this lens + a wide angle lens depending on your needs.

Wish there were videos lenses coming out, sadly their are none. You known with constant F, smooth rings that can be used with remote controllers and stabilization

many videographers don’t want stabilization in lenses or cameras because there can be wobble and they like to stabilize with their own gear. This is non-linear, but certainly can be used for video. You can hook this up to focus rigs or just use the outstanding autofocus

The 1.8 apsc 18-35 from Sigma isn’t quite up to todays standards. - it was released in 2012. Still a pretty good lens.

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Personally I think it's more due to the lowering support for it requiring people to adapt the lens which can hurt its autofocus capabilities. I currently use the Nikon F version adapted to Fuji X. In terms of optical performance though it can still keep up well.

Why oh why didn't they make this a 24-50mm lens. Having a 1.6x zoom is fairly limiting in this focal range. Hope they re-release their excellent 18-35/1.8 for the mirrorless APS-C cameras someday :)

18-35mm F1.8 Full Frame would have been. i feel like 28-45 is too tight for video and too short for photography, but it's just my personal opinion. 45mm F1.8 is good but the size of this lens is too big for that range.

Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 is roughly equivalent to 28-53/2.8 full-frame lens. There were plenty of 24(28)-70(75)/2.8 lenses, which are all better choices.

Don’t pay attention to KZfaq drama. Every single lens company sends me lenses for review. I put affiliate links in every single video because that how this channel makes money. You can choose to use an affiliate link or not. I don’t care what you buy, but I want you to know all the info if you watch my video. Sony, tamron, sigma, TTartisan, Viltrox, 7artisans, Meike, and more send me lenses. It’s a review channel - I can’t possibly go out and buy all of the lenses. this is a very useful lens for video. Internal zoom, amazing optics, No CA or flaring or LOCA to speak of - a small bit of focus breathing has never been much of an issue for video shooters, and the lens in non-linear for manual focus, but you can still use gears and manually focus, you can also use the perfect autofocus.

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis It's the focus breathing compensation. I thought the focus breathing is as bad some GM lens. This channel is my indie TV show I'm starting, just got FX30 with Sony 10-20mm f/4 PZ G lens, which is a true video lens. I am selling my A7C and ZV-E10 to get a used A7S III to use with my Tamron 18-28mm and 28-75mm f/2.8 lens. The Tamron is about the worst focus breathing I want to put up with.

Surely we've dispelled the "zoom with your feet" idea by now. Yes, for forcing creativity it's a fun challenge to have a fixed lens, but if you need quick versatility that's what a zoom lens offers. Not to mention the obvious that walking forward with a 35mm will not give you a 45mm image, nor will walking back give you a 28mm image. For some people the 35mm f1.4 is better, but not for others.

this is an almost perfect optical lens that is a zoom at 1.8 - useless for you maybe - but extremely useful for many. So many people have been waiting for a lens like this. Don’t pay attention to drama nonsense and look at the actual test footage 😀

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis It is not good for video due to focus breathing and not linear focus. Also heavy and you would need a heavy gimbal to balance it. For stills? 28mm is not wide enough. Would rather stays with prime 24mm. Zoom is less than 2x.
