@@moneer7139 It's not that there's not enough space for a full size keyboard, it's just that smaller keyboards give you extra space. I *could* get a full size board with a numbad and function keys, but not only do I basically never use a numpad or function keys, but adding that many unnecessary features gives me less room for my mouse (which as someone who plays shooters is actually kind of important) but imo it just makes the rest of my desk look better.

I just built my first keyboard. It's a Keychron Q3 with Box Jades and a bunch of extra foam (enough case foam so that the gasket mount doesn't really do it's thing anymore and there's practically no bounce) and force break mod with 2 layers of electrical tape. I get maximum click with minimal clack and ping. I love clicky switches. I had always used Cherry MX Blues before (an old Corsair K70 that I've had for 9.25 years.) I saw a few videos about the Box Jades and knew I had to try them. I ordered a switch sampler that came with Box White, Pale Blue, Pink, Jade, and Navy. Fell in love with the Box Jades and will probably use them in every build going forward, unless I decide to make a keyboard for use at the office. Then I might have to go with silent tactiles of some kind. I need that bump. Linears just don't feel right.

From my experience with 3D printers, the worst source of noise comes from the printer sitting directly on the table and so the table amplifies all the printer vibrations. So your table becomes a speaker, basically. In other words: if somehow you fuse the keyboard with a thin table that can vibrate a lot, you could prob get better results :D

I found some of those Black Panther keycaps on clearance for 70% off and really like them so far. I used them in a Keychron V1 (cheaper, newer version of the Q1), and plan to put them into a Q65 when that ships (in 2 months, I think). Would be nice if the profile was a bit lower, but if I flip some of the bottom-row caps to invert the angle, it's more comfortable and also easier to get the right keys by feel. Some Boba U4 switches also should help keep the end result pretty quiet.

Exactly. Honestly, I feel like modern keyboard enthusiasts limit themselves too much. They would spend thousands of dollars for similar looking and sounding boards that fits in their narrow definition of what's good when there are so many flavours out there. All of the keyboard sound testing videos sounds very similar as a result. They might not be the same sound, but they are the same type of sound with little uniqueness and personality. And I really hate the mentality of clicky switch = bad also.
@heckingbamboozled8097
@heckingbamboozled8097 2 жыл бұрын
@@tadfibonacci4926 There are plenty of keyboard enthusiasts who like clicky switches as well. There's literally an entire market just for clicky switches - which is how the notorious box jades got so popular in the first place. I don't get how people who talk out against the keyboard enthusiast community don't understand that the tastes of those in said community differ just as much as those not in the community. There's a reason the vast majority of enthusiasts, when asked what switch is best, will just say that it comes down to preference - because it's an entirely subjective hobby. I see these types of comments on every single keyboard video, and they make less and less sense every time. You're literally making up arguments with the whole "I really hate the mentality of clicky switch = bad also". It's like asking someone if they prefer diesel or standard gas cars/trucks, then being like "I don't understand what everyone has against diesel!" when they say they just prefer standard.
@tadfibonacci4926
@tadfibonacci4926 2 жыл бұрын
@@heckingbamboozled8097 yes, there are a lot of enthusiasts who likes clickies as well, however they're the minority not the majority. Just look at the market for good clicky switches, we only have like 3 good ones whereas linear and tactiles gets their recolours every few weeks or so. And yes, I understand that everything is completely based on taste, it's just that everyone and their mother are following a very narrow and boring definition of what's considered as good in a custom keyboard. Just go watch a few custom keyboard sound test videos and you'll see that they're all very similar. And I wasn't making up any argument either. There are a lot of people who believe clickies = bad because their first experience with clicky switches were cherry MX blues or its clones, which are not horrible, but pretty underwhelming. So because of that they dismissed the whole category of switches and call them bad. And you see this mentality in a lot of places, especially in someone who's new to the community.

@@BFF.Studios It's actually not bad and kinda disappointing. EPOMaker GK108 with Box Jades, and keycaps off a Corsair K98. After using MX blues at work for so long, I think I genuinely find the click bars lackluster, as their range of sound is too narrow. The fact that the keyboard came pre-foamed likely also contributed. It was genuinely infuriating to type on, so I just went back to my K98, which I almost think is actually louder.

@@BFF.Studios Because, and I say this with the most serious and unironic intent that I can: the cacophony of clicks and rattle directly cause the release of serotonin into my brain. I genuinely love sharp klacks, scratching springs, and rattling of loose pegs. I watch some of these other keyboard guys and their keyboards sound like hitting two coconuts together and it feels like nails on chalkboard to me. Also: Because while I have MX Blues at work, my K98 uses Reds, and I wanted something clicky for home.

@@BFF.Studios Because I only realized I preferred Blues to Jades after I got the keyboard assembled. That, and everywhere I looked had Blues out of stock, but Jades in plenty. Even Box Whites were OOS everywhere I saw.

@@BFF.Studios Oy, it's been a bit. Used those same Jades and put together a GMMK RGB, and the sound is _wonderful._ Been using it for a few months now, and it has been quite nice. I ended up getting some Blues in first time I tried to put this board together, and stock they sounded absolutely horrid, I genuinely have to question if they are counterfeit.

I used the even heavier Kailh Box Navy switches on my Q1, lubed with TriboSys 3204 and it got a tape mod and 1/8" sorbothane at the bottom of the case. Feels amazing, but then I'm a programmer, not a gamer. I would love to see you do a mod intending to improve the Q1.

You could probably make it louder with the Kailh Speed Navy switches. They have a click bar like the Kailh Box Jades, but they aren't box switches, and have stronger springs, which are noticeably pingier than the Box Jades.

There's a missed opportunity here -- if you used a keyboard-mounted keyboard you could get even more clicks every time you press a switch. The idea: - Get a second keyboard - Install only the switches & keys in the very corners - Put glue on the tops of the keycaps - Use the glue to attach another keyboard on top If you put in clicky switches, you could potentially activate up to 5 clicks each time you press the switch (assuming the top keyboard has switches with a higher activation force and the lower keyboard has switches with a lower activation force)
