A few points of clarification/additional info; - We don't learn about *all* the worlds the Meteia visited; only a select few. Hena, dyo, tria, tessera are clearly simple designations from 1 to 4 in numerical order. It then jumps to okto (8), ennea (9), and finally to deka-pente (15) as Emet and the others interject their speeches while presumably Meteion continues her report in the background and we just don't hear her. - Midgardsormr wasn't the only one who left the dragonstar with a clutch of eggs, there were others too (I think this is revealed in one of the sidequests in the area); alas, we don't know the fate of any of the others, but it can be safely assumed based on what Midgardsormr tells Vrtra (Etheirys is the last bastion of hope in the universe), that he, at least, found no other star with aether plenty enough to give birth to uncorrupted dragons. Thus, they most likely perished in the rift between stars (as they were weaker than Midgardsormr), or settled on a star without enough aether to sustain them. - Deka-okto means 18, it is not connected to either okto nor deka-pente in any meaningful way above the other denominations. - Of note, it's worth mentioning that Ostracon is an actual thing, and hints at what these places in Ultima Thule are; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostracon (in simple terms: "shards of a broken world" is an apt description) - Another point to make is that these aren't the *actual* civilizations we encounter in Ultima Thule. These are just recreations that Meteion crafted through her employ of dynamis. Think of them like power generators that feed her, creating an endless torrent of despair for her to feed upon. Now, when Meteion has changed her tune to that of hope rather than despair, the question is how these remnants of dynamis will develop. - The Ea's "truth" is an actual hypothesis called the heat death of the universe (or the big freeze/big chill). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_death_of_the_universe - Deka-hexi is 16, and deka-hepta is 17. - The Nekropolis appears to be the most obvious spot for a beast tribe questline to appear - expanding on the idea of running a restaurant at the end of the universe (nice hitchhiker's reference there btw: hitchhikers.fandom.com/wiki/The_Restaurant_at_the_End_of_the_Universe). It will likely interact with the other factions in the area in some ways, even though they are no longer beings of aether, but simply dynamis given form. - There are clearly more than 20 Meteia, so there's a ton of worlds we know absolutely nothing about. Meteion's report would've taken a very long time to finish, I think. It's unlikely we'll see any of them any time soon, but Meteion could always be pulled on as a resource in the future when/if we ever find the need to traverse the sea of stars again.

I wonder, are the numeric name designations supposed to coincide with the Meteon sisters, or with the planets they visited? When I was playing through, I personally drew parallels between the Meteons (Metei?) and the Pleiades from Greek myth, so I had assumed the designations referred to planets. Is it ever explicitly said what the designations referred to?

@@ShermTank7272 It isn't explicitly stated, and yes, I drew them to the planets as well - it seems logical to assume that each Meteion visited more than one world (considering many would've been lifeless). This also makes sense with the Ultima Thule map names. The actual count of worlds visited should likely have been in the millions, but only the ones with life in them probably received official designations.

@@ShermTank7272 personally I doubt her sisters were actually given individual names. Though given that fact we might as well think of each of them by the same designation as the planet they visited, or at least by the first they did visit. I strongly believe the pestilence in the Blue Star was oil. The stains on the water is pretty similar to leaking oil. And since ordinary matter is made of aether, and ours is replenished with food and such, theirs was contaminated. They were an aquatic civilization and needed seawater to live and breathe. But since they saw an opportunity to expand on dry land, of course they would need fuel. And then the shit hit the fan.

It seems to be kind of a combination of ecological disaster and pestilence. Perhaps with the rising temperatures these contaminants would be vaporized, creating these clouds of deadly poisons we encounter in the boss battle. One important note: an ostrakon/ostracon is a piece of pottery, usually broken off a vase or other earthenware vessel. In archaeological or epigraphical context, ostraka refer to sherds or pieces of stone that have writing scratched on them ; a recording, essentially, of information. Deka-okto = deca (10) and octo (8) so 18 Tria = three Deka-hexi = deca and hexi (6) so 16 The Nekropolis is part of Ostrakon Hena. Hena is Greek for one, and so it's the very first world her sisters found. Grebuloff would be Hexi (the sixth), The World Organization would be Okto (the eighth) and the Plenty would be Deka-Hepta (deca 10 and epta 7) due to the duty list when in the Dead Ends listing Grebuloff as the Sixth End, World Citizen/Freedom Fighter world as Eighth End, and the world of the Plenty as the Seventeenth End.
@Penamesolen
@Penamesolen 2 жыл бұрын
Is it possible that the numbering is about the order the Meteions were created, rather than the world arrival order? So that Hena was the first Meteion sister, not the first world visited? Just out of curiosity.
@BlazeIgnitus
@BlazeIgnitus 2 жыл бұрын
@@Penamesolen While possible, as that was my first thought too, it seems unlikely simply because of the duty list's objectives for The Dead Ends. They label the ends of the worlds they visit in the ordinal numbers. The sixth end, the eighth end, the seventeenth end.
@Varizen87
@Varizen87 2 жыл бұрын
@@BlazeIgnitus Not to mention that in the Cutscene where Meteion first links up and begins her report, she explicitly states that she makes her report in order of arrival/contact. One of the things is... all of the Meteions are an extension of the same being. While they have their own individual personalities, the whole network of them is Meteion, and there's no specific designation of individual Meteions. The Endsinger represents the core unit, but it is still Meteion, as the name Endsinger is functionally the name assigned to it by WoL or perhaps later the Wandering Minstrel to designate it as an entity. Anyway, very interesting about the Ostrakon part... I didn't know that, but that speaks volumes in the poetic sense.
@analogHyperdrive
@analogHyperdrive 2 жыл бұрын
@@BlazeIgnitus To add to that, while the duty list of the Dead Ends lists numbers ("Meet the Eighth End") the world map actually lists the zones by their Meteion designations (the map layer where the second boss takes place is labeled "Ostrakon Okto"), drawing a direct correlation with "end number" and Meteion designation.

It's incredible just how huge the universe of 14 is. The max even a single Final Fantasy ever goes is to its own moon, maybe an extra dimension of some sort. But 14...has so many worlds, it's like what if The Galaxy of Star Wars was visited by Meteion well after every story could've possibly been told. So many remnants of what happened, only for them all to die out internally or externally. And then when they connected to our Elpis Meteion...who knows how many sets of "life isn't worth it" memories flooded into her head. It's no wonder she went mad. Not a single soul in any universe, real or fictional, could resist being broken by the literal death of a thousand cuts that the Meteia brought. If you think for a single second you could withstand that instant mental onslaught, you are lying to yourself. The even more depressing thing is they didn't even lift a finger to speed up much of that process. Sure, some of them individually went crazy, some of them likely felt the Endsinger's wrath before Zodiark trapped her, but I'd imagine the majority of them simply *witnessed* senseless death and broke. The greatest villain of the story didn't come from some masterminding villain with delusions of grandeur...it was a bunch of lost, broken children. Kind of ironic that so many JRPG's are about kids and teenagers with the power to slay gods...our final boss effectively were children of similar power. And that power *was turned on us* for once. And the thing that worries me now, with the ending? Yeah, it's happy and all, our Elpis Meteion is safe, free and happy... *but what if somebody exposes who she was?* Could you imagine how fucking quickly we'd be right back to tense conflict because someone could potentially identify that little blue bird as the one who nearly ended everything?

The only ones who know what Meteion really looks like are the WOL and the main scions that went with them. The Lopporits were all knocked unconscious by her and I’m not sure they got a look at her and even if they did, they never saw her as a little blue bird. No, the only person who could effectively single that bird out is us and I highly doubt after spending all our effort and time saving the world, that we’d just stir up chaos for no reason. @@fighterroah I don't know the exact media that the third world is referencing, but the idea is that without context, joy is meaningless. If you don't know sorrow, and all you surround yourself with is joy, then you would only see it as a bleak world without meaning, and would seek to end it. Paradoxically, as a visitor to said world, you'd bring your own knowledge with you and realize what a wonderful place it is; but you'd have no way to explain that to the inhabitants who have no concept of sorrow or sadness. There's a reason this is the final and most important world to Meteion; it's probably the one that broke her, ultimately. The first world should feel right at home with most of us, as it's a reference to greed and capitalism; mercilessly exploiting natural resources in the name of infinite growth within a system of finite resources, spelling the doom to our own world in the process. It's just a matter of time until we suffer the same consequences to be honest. As our fields of barley and grain turn to deserts and billions of people become starving climate refugees, wars are inevitably going to break out over the few resources and habitable areas that remain.

Ostrakons were shards of broken pottery being repurposed to write short, disposable messages on... which is pretty much what Meteion's sisters did. These shards are from before the Sundering, so we know that none of them refer to the Source's Reflections. Omega, however, likely DID visit some or all of the shards, before ending up on the Source on it's hunt for Midgardsormr. (The same time Omega went on its journey, the Omicrons lost their leadership as well..)

@@SeedlingNL It sounds to me like Ostrakon here is referencing the specific "shards" of worlds that the Meteia constructed out of Dynamis, while the number (such as Tria) refers to the Meteion in question, as they were listed as such in Meteion's report. I appreciate the meta the theme has with the endgame of games in general. There are many worlds that stagnate because they ran out of things to work toward or realized that it's just pointless because it's all for nothing. An example would be the fear that this was the end of FFXIV because they said it was the end of the Zodiark arc and some people misunderstood. So they feared they would run out of things to do. Another example would be my view of games like Diablo. The endgame revolves around an ever increasing difficulty and getting better gear to deal with the increased difficulty. It's an endless cycle that ultimately doesn't matter. (That being said, the true purpose is fun and I in no way imply that those games are bad because of this.) Luckily for us, if we run out of things to do in any given game we can move on to another. Which relates to our WoL's side. For every obsticle we overcome, for every foe beaten, for every heroic task preformed, we are never satisfied. There's always a new adventure. Always a new hope. Always a new goal. Even if we don't know what form it will take, we know it's out there, and we know it's coming.

Glad you enjoyed it. We don't know the status of the other stars, but Meteion's song was to the best of our knowledge mainly directed at Etheirys. If that is the case then its likely that other stars are still living and existing. However given the fact that the Meteia couldn't even find one planet that could give them the answer they were looking for, the universe was not in the best shape back then. But, roughly 13000 years give or take a century have passed since then. Who knows what worlds and civilizations await us in the great expanse. We made a hell of alot of noise going to Ultima Thule and back, maybe another star will seek us out instead.
@Rindis8
@Rindis8 2 жыл бұрын
All stars that have been explored are dead, and/or dying as of thousands of years ago. That does not mean all stars have been explored.... One potential consequence of what has been seen is that Eytheris was just slightly 'slow' in development and the ancients would have eventually withered and died away as a civilization once reaching a threshold of perceived perfection in the world. It may also be that a common fault was that everyone was _too_ dense in aether, making them less emotionally driven, and more susceptible to ennui. Or in the violent cases, more susceptible to dark emotions they don't have a long history of handling once unleashed. Modern Eytherians with their thinner aether are more dynamis/emotion driven, and may be capable of longer-term balance than other species. Or, it is just the effect of all our constant struggles after losing our own paradise.

The known universe being limited to Etheirys and its shards isn't entirely true, we already knew that the dragons and Omega hailed from somewhere far away, and the Ultima Seraph from the Ivalice raids is apparently another kind of extra-dimensional entity from an unknown place (though that could potentially be refering to another shard). Granted, these elements are somewhat hidden in optional content and unknown to the people of Etheirys at large.

I felt so bad for Hermes and Meteion, he created her to find other worlds to share experiences with and for some reason Meteion only found the ones that had already gone or were in the process of being destroyed. Imagine what could've happened if flourishing worlds had been found instead. There would've been no need for any Final Days, no need for Zodiark or Hydaelyn to be summoned and countless Ascian lives would be spared. What would the lore and story of 14 be like then? I admit it all makes sense and I like the idea. It’s just too bad we didn’t get to see more worlds, such as the worlds of Final Fantasy VII, IX, XI or XIII. There’s been plenty of tie-in content from most FF titles, with the exception of VII, and very little from VIII or IX. As always, it’ll be fun to see how Square-Enix plays things out. It makes sense really since we saw near the end of EW that he created and sent out potentially thousands of them. Amazing catch on your part Alex :)

@@WyrmLimion actually, if you play closer attention to the cutscene where Meteion is giving out her report, she's COUNTING from one onward, like she's giving the reports in the order of the worlds she encountered (remember, she's a hive mentality with her sisters at that moment - for all intents and pusposes, she and all the sisters are just one "person") What I interpreted from this is that those greek-like numbers are not the name of the sisters, but the ORDINAL NUMBERS of the reports, in the order of each landing in those planets, like the order in which each sister found a planet (they all departed from the same point, so they all are at differing distances from Etheyris. if the sisters are all travelling at the same velocity (since they were all created from the same concept, they must all possess the same abilities), it would make sense that they would reach their destinations in separate times. Further evidence to support this is the objectives in the dead ends dungeon, how the world in the Deka-Hexa report is reported as the "sixteenth end", and the Okto report is called the "eighth end" Maybe those greek-style names are actual numbers as they're said in native amaurotine language, but this is my personal speculation. Does amke a lot of sense tho when you put it in context.

Considering that Nero or Cid were not familiar with the FF6 bosses and that Omega had to conjure them based on _something,_ the idea that the FF6 world (either as a physical planet or within some culture's literature) was discovered by Omega or Omicrons is pretty plausible.

The answer to existence is existence itself. We exist to progress, not to conclude. I think most people entertain nihilism at one point in their life, but life isn't about the destination, it's about the journey. Is there a point? If it's my biology to grow, learn, reproduce, provide, then fade away; and there's nothing that can be done to alter that, then I have a choice to let that consume me, or make the most of it. I choose to give life my own point. All that matters is now, and what now will look like until I'm no longer capable of observing it.

What if Jenova wasn't a virus, just an Ascian? She took over bodies like Lahabrea did with Thancred. Her cells gave people enhanced power like the WoL has and since Amaurotians can transform at will, those with many of her cells gained wings. Since Hojo also used mako with Soldiers, those who turned into monsters basically had ether poisoning like the sineaters. And Jenova's plan of taking over the planet and gathering souls to travel another planet was basically triggering a calamity to join with the source. Cetra were like Padjal able to heal and communicate with the planet/nature. Many parts of Loveless fit into the lore as well

Meteion mentions something right at the end that made me think that the Jenova fight is approaching. When she mentions that beings that die either go to the Lifestream of their respective stars or to a kind of Universe Lifestream, I can only think that the death of so many lives across the universe might have caused some problems to it. It is going to be either a Jenova scenario or a FFIX Iifa Tree scenario, where Garland used the Iifa Tree to siphon souls from Gaia to the dying world of Terra.

Our Ironworks friends mention that the ff5 and ff6 bosses created by Omega are from story books that are most likely myth/fiction and that Omega wouldn't know the difference, the only one we know he's fought against for sure is Midgardsormr. Until/unless there is more added to the game at a later date, all of the other creations could very well be fictional.

How many worlds did meteion destroy though is a question. How many worlds did they intentionally spread despair to?
@Nirual86
@Nirual86 2 жыл бұрын
I mean, its a hard question to answer. I'd argue many of these places were already in a pretty bad place or at best, a slowly degrading dystopia. Like the Ea who really didn't have anything left to live for and were just sleeping. The fact they couldn't find any thriving civilisations is the reason why they fell to despair themselves. Once they did form their nest to spread their despair, they could have snuffed out some new sparks of life, though.
@mspaffles9665
@mspaffles9665 2 жыл бұрын
Intentionally spread despair? Arguably none. They're were just singing the soft song to amplify despair that was already there. If the humans of Ethyris (idk the spelling) had no despair then the Song would've had no effect on the world.

Don't you think the passage you read around the 15 minute mark sounds blatantly similar to the part of the dungeon with the rebels and war machines? There's even a thing at the end that's like a seat or throne and he sits in it. Also, subbed. Good video and keep it up, the FFXIV community on youtube is disappearingly small and I'd love to see it at least on par with the WoW youtube community in activity one day. As a WoW player I was spoiled for the last 15 years by the likes of youtube channels such as Oxhorn, Nixxiom, Mooclucking, Nobbel87, Kakio, Taliesin & Evitel, AsmongoldTV, CaptainGrim, Danger Dolan (yes, that Dolan, of super planet Dolan lol) and I'd love to see the FFXIV community just as spoiled.

I had a similar thought about the Judgement Day world as I thought there was more to the Global Community than we saw. I rejected the idea primarily due to the naming designation of that world in The Dead Ends being Ostrakon Okto, and the report at 15 was from Deka-Pente. I hold out hope that we see more and more worlds :) Thanks for your kind words and theories! I recall many of those old names well from my Wow days, Danger Dolan for example. Maybe one day I will shine that bright, but I am happy that people enjoy my creations, that's enough for me.
