It's funny you say that, because I have a 4k TV and a blu ray oblivion and I explain to people that oblivion looks like a 2k on my 4k lol now I know why.

It was not shot in 2K (more like 4.5K and 8K), but the DI Master file is 2K.

With a good TV properly set up a good 4K transfer can look significantly better than Blu-ray transfer. But, much like music, it really depends on the love and effort put into the final product.

4K is worth it for HDR. Many movies (especially action and comic book movies) use 2K digital intermediate files due to all the CGI. But Blade Runner, original trilogy Star Wars, many classic films in 4K, John Wick, Top Gun and Top Gun Maverick, wow... These look amazing in 4K. It's all about physical media. Streaming doesn't cut it. Netflix and other's "optimize" the stream (i e. Cut down the bitrate to below bluray levels). Physical media all day everyday.

@@bigdreams5554 I don't get the fuss over HDR, and don't get me started on Dolby Vision. All that outlay for a bit of extra colour that may not even have been in the Directors mind? Wonder what the manufacturers will come out with next to keep people buying?

I think 4k is worth owning but it isn't worth it to upgrade your entire collection. Like only only get a 4k over a blu ray if it's one of your favorite movies, if you get s really good deal or if the blu ray transfer sucks.

Oblivion is a tough one because at times it doe look better. What type of sound system do you have? If you have a good proper Atmos I would say give the 4K a shot. Anything short of a proper Atmos setup, go Blu-ray.

I am not convinced height channels really make any difference. You could arguably even get 360 degree sound with a quad setup.

@@stonesfan285 The setup is worth it, it just has to be done right. Throwing speakers up there paying no attention to listener angles and then not doing calibration correctly isn't going to do it. Also studios actually have to provide a good mix as well. Terminator Genysis as example in the bus scene you can visualize the foot steps across the roof. The Doors has a scene where they are in a high rise with the windows open and you hear the cars and sounds of the street. Well with atmos using the base layer in stereo with the height the sound imaging of those sounds seem to come from below you. People claim Top Gun Maverick is top tier Atmos. It is not. It is bombastic and fun but weak in the atmos department. Shang Shi and the 10 Rings has so much opportunity for an incredible atmos mix, all wasted and a disappointment in that regard. You are right about the quad giving 360. A pair can image sound left to right. A pair behind you now give s you front to back. 4 above you now gives you the option to go up and down. Think of quad as x and y axis and then the 4 up above the Z axis.

Oblivion is an Example how to NOT remaster on 4K Disc. Blu-ray has more details and it is way sharper, has better color correction and blacks are more accurate.

This is another case where I think the 4KBD doesn't look bad, it just doesn't really look any better than the BD.

It really depends. I’ve bought 4Ks with great reviews on reputable sites end up being lack lustre and vice versa.

i dont know but 4k uhd is going the same path as HDDVD all that hype for nothing, HDDVD didnt make it that long

T2 is garbage on 4k inaccurate color grading, bad blacks, grain noise...and lot more one of the worst 4k remasters

@@mr.electronx9036 Yes the 2017 StudioCanal 4K release is garbage... The 2015 Lionsgate Blu-Ray is the one I'm referring to it used the same transfer at the Japanese Blu-Ray release and was a huge improvement over the SkyNet edition.

It’s only a matter of time until download speeds and bit rates become lightning fast. I still love the aspect of collecting physical movies like how other collect vinyl records.

Honestly if I had a bigger place I'd still collect dvds and 4k blu-rays like I use too just to display them but I live in a small townhouse so I'm limited on space 😆 i don't bother with it anymore i become lazy with the convenience of having everything on my Google tv Chromecast lol

I think u will save money in the long run. But if u have space, buy the physical media. I just started buying 4ks, I'm making a list to avoid lol

@@TheNotoriousNemo as of right now i only collect older dvds for older movies because i prefer watching old movies how they originally looked upscaled to 4k and dvds are dirt cheap now then i buy newer 4k hdr movies on google tv. I just keep the dvds in a dvd storage binder and throw away the cases to save space
