The all time worst of the worst of Batman's big screen rogues gallery in the worst of the worst of Batman's big screen adaptations.
Tom Hardy, eat your heart out.
The original big screen Bane didn't leave behind big shoes to fill.
This Bane was awful as the movie that he starred in.

People like to complain about Tom Hardy's Bane because his version is too realistic and not comic book accurate but people tend to forget this is the bane we had the misfortunate to grow up with in live action for 15 long years until Tom Hardy's Bane finally came along so personally I will take Tom Hardy's Bane compared to this Bane any day of the week. 😂😅

I can take the nipples on the Batman and Robin suits. I can take all of Mr. Freeze's awful ice puns. I can take Uma Thurman hamming it up. I can stomach Batgirl. What I can't take is what they did to Bane in this movie. You gotta remember around that time Bane was a very hot comic book character. Nightfall had just happened so Bane was on the front of the mind of all comic readers. Adding Bane Batman and Robin just felt rushed to capitalize on Bane's popularity. Even if I didn't take anything besides his name and the venom from the comic books. While Tom Hardy as Bane wasn't perfect it was still a thousand times better than Bane from Batman and Robin.

There are many, many things I would have done differently but the most relevant to this video is I would have cut Bane at concept and just gone with Mr Freeze and Poison Ivy, played by Patrick Stewart and Julia Roberts. They were the obvious choices and they would have suffered if they had to share the screen with a superfluous third villain, which is what happened here

I think it's more than some. The fact that they changed Barbara to be Alfred's niece rather than Gordon's daughter is the dumbest thing. Change just for the change is entirely pointless. Another really dumb is that traditionally Barbara keeps her identity secret even from Batman and Robin but literally the first this she does as Batgirl is reveal her secret identity. Also there's technically TWO actors who portrayed Bane in this movie and neither one of them were credited. Most of Bane's appearances were the larger drugged up version you mentioned in the video however there was another actor who had all of 2 scenes as Bane. The very first appearance of Bane was a much smaller skinny man who gets replaced by the wrestler only after the mad scientist dude injects him with Venom for the first time. He shows up again later in the movie when the tubes continuing to inject Venom into his body are cut. Michael Reid MacKay is the actor who plays Antonio Diego which is a name that's literally only spoken in the movie once by the mad scientist before reintroducing him as Bane. I don't blame you if you forgot that Bane actually had another name in that movie since it's very forgettable. Anyway, I don't think there is a good live action depiction of Bane at all. There's only been 2 versions of him and you actually have to combine those two versions in order to get one that works. This Bane LOOKS more accurate to the comics while the Dark Knight Rises version is totally unrecognizable as the character. They just randomly changed his design for no good reason. Supposedly it was to make him more realistic except the original design is base on a Mexican Luchador which is already a real thing and the Venom is actually a somewhat fictionalized version of steroids which are also a very real thing. They did exaggerate the effects for Venom and obviously changed the name. Dark Knight Rises wears a mask that's not based on anything and instead of being on drugs that make him stronger, he's on some kind of pain killers that are fed to him through the mask and would instantly stop working if he took the mask off which is also not a real thing. How can they claim to change him to make him more realistic when they took away things that were already based on real world things and replaces them with things that were entirely made up for the movie. My complaints about Dark Knight Rises Bane looks aside, the actual portrayal of the character is much closer to the comic book version with Bane actually being an intelligent character rather than a big dumb idiot. You have to combine the looks of the Batman and Robin version with the portrayal of the Dark Knight Rises version to get an actually good movie Bane. That said I'd much rather have a great portrayal with a terrible design than a great design with a terrible portrayal. So I prefer Dark Knight Rises despite how much I hate his appearance. I'm a little hesitant to actually call Bane the worst Big Screen Batman Villain though. There have been others who are much worse. Catwoman from the movie Catwoman which didn't even have anything to do with Batman... and despite her being the main character really didn't have anything to do with Catwoman either. The portrayal was wrong, the costume was wrong, the story was pretty much non-existent, it was just an excuse to put an attractive woman in a skimpy costume. The only some what interesting thing about the movie is that it kind of explains away the 3 different Catwomen from the Adam West series but the movie also takes itself way too seriously to fit in with that continuity. But yes the plot is so non-existent I remember watching it for the first time, the credits were still rolling and I was sitting there still wandering what the story was. I honestly had no clue who any of the characters were, what their motivations where, why they were fighting each other, I had no freaking what was happening the entire movie. I'd also put Scarecrow as a terrible big screen Batman villain. Johnathan Crang was actually in all three of the Christopher Nolan movies but there are so few scenes of the character that people still forget he existed at all. He played a major role in the first movie with the majority of his appearances being from Batman Begins. Even there though he's more of a plot device than an actual character. Ras Al Ghul is the one who ultimately uses his fear gas and that's really the only reason he was in the movie. I say he played a major role but his role was as a plot device so that Ras could obtain the Fear Gas. In the sequel he has except ONE SCENE where he's for some reason riding a horse and is immediately arrested. Where did he even get a horse in the middle of a large city? In the last movie he has exactly one scene where he doesn't even wear the Scarecrow mask. It's after Bane takes over the city and releases all the prisoners. Johnathan Crang put's the city's police on trial and banishes them to the ice covered waters outside the city. There's been several videos I've seen playing that scene who didn't even realize that guy was Scarecrow because that's how little of an impression he left that people don't recognize him after three movies as the same character. This guy is so bad a villain I wouldn't just call him the worst big villain but actually the worst Batman villain EVER! And Scarecrow, when he's done correctly, should not be forgettable. This is a character who should always make a lasting impression every time he's on screen. There are episodes of Batman the Animated Series where he's only a cameo that left more of a lasting impression than the movie version. Say what you want about Batman and Robin Bane being forgettable but we actually remember him enough to talk about him. When have you ever heard anyone talking about live action Scarecrow? Other than me. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who remembers he exists.

Personality-wise, I'll agree, they got it totally wrong. He acts more like Solomon Grundy than Bane. DESIGN-WISE, though, I think they nailed it. (with the yellow-green skin exception)

With how they wrote Bane for Batman and Robin they shoulda used Solomon Grundy instead

I thought this Bane was more dangerous if you catch the dialogue between Bruce and Dick they talk about when Bane and Poison Ivy first arrive at Gotham airport ten security guards attack Bane who then puts all those security guards into intensive care

I agree that the whole movie is a mess. It’s easily my least favorite Batman movie, and Banes portrayal and just the fact that he’s only because he was popular at the time is one of the films problems. BUT (and I kind of have mixed feelings about this) he is EASILY my favorite character in that train wreck of a movie and the only thing that gives it rewatch value me personally. I just can’t get enough of his design and fight scenes. And funnily enough, his role isn’t that different from TDKR Bane.😂

At this point I don't think that WB/DC will even attempt at Bane a third time, even with James Gunn more "comic book accuracy", which is a shame, but I'm willing to take this back if they do manage a Bane in the future (I am however pissed at the fact that we won't get Batista as Bane, which again, shame)

It's funny that you mentioned that. Back in 97, my gym teacher took his class to see the movie, and I asked him, "Was Bane in the movie? Someone said he was." My gym teacher said, "His name was Vein, because of the vein in his arms" (or something like that). A while later, I was able to prove him wrong, but he didn't care, lol.

@@Thatguyyoudontknow594 In a way (especially for this movie) it would almost make sense. Thankfully I believed his name was always Bane, and when the BTAS episode Bane aired some time later, that was when I knew I was always right.

The depiction of Bane I grew up with... was the version from the Lego Games. As a kid, the Batman and Robin version was bad because he was green and too dumb. The Dark Knight Rises version looked boring. I didn't even care about the luchador angle I was introduced to through injustice (AKA his actual characterization.) "Whatever you build, I will break" was his personality, and I thought he was awesome.
