My worst consult, I think: Intern year, consulted neurosurgery for a bleed on the brain. Neurosurgery PA is like “Yeeeeeah, that’s the skull; that’s just bone.” I was so embarrassed.

A rather fresh young doctor called for a consult at the station I work at. We were a bit confused why he wanted one of the oncologists to look at his patients very reddened and infected eyes. He just confused the eye clinic/ophtamology and oncology.

Well when I was posted in obgyn (we have a rotatory internship in my country), the unit head asked me to take a patient to internal medicine department for a consult. The internal medicine doctor there proceeded to scream at me for 20 minutes because the consult for for hypertension and he was 'too senior' to handle such trivial matters and it was very offensive that I had approached him for that. The explanation that I was sent by my unit head was unacceptable because 'the unit head will never come for a per vaginim exam for his payients if he asked'. So I do feel what Ben has gone through. Hope he does well in his new clinic!

Some unsolicited advice: Doctors like that usually scream at anyone who doesn't or hasn't yet screamed back. Unfortunately, lots of people are scared to scream at senior doctors because they're worried about their job or future opportunities but they're usually way too busy to be that petty. In my experience making it clear that you won't just let them treat you like that from the start will actually make them more favorable towards you.

Your response to this is to thank the doctor and say you will convey the message directly back to your consultant. Don't bother arguing, if he wants to bark let him bark at the guy who asked you to do the job.

In one of the many train wrecks with medical staff with special needs kids..I had a doctor walk into the ER area start talking to me dismissively about my 9 yr old … he was 9 weeks old. It took like 10 full mins for me to get the asshats attention as basically everything he was tells me wasn’t really relevant to the situation due to significant age difference.

I got trash talked for not peeing while cathd. She literally just started pushing my stomach and calling me names. I was 17 and I had attempted to end my life, so it was especially rude. When the dr finally looked hours later, and there was no urine, he ordered her to recath me. The cath had no hole.... i had to pee soooo bad. She said it had never happened before in 25 years of emergency care.

Sorry you went through that. Abusive healthcare providers like that need to find another line of work. But a lot of them specifically get into healthcare so they can mistreat patients like that.

And this is why we dont bombard our schedules with an onslaught of patients that test the limits of our blood pressure and focus, one to two patients a day is what we operate on, 3 to 4 if all of them are checkups, and only 1 patient a day if its surgery. no distractions, no panic, no stroke, iz good time.
