Something you didn't mention and may not be aware of is that every game you showed seems or is known to be derived from the Lyra 3rd person shooter premade template that comes with Unreal Engine 5, just with edited settings and swapped assets. That's why they feel just "competent enough" without excelling or setting themselves apart, while looking and feeling very similar. I also wonder how many of Kompete's "players" are just bots made to look like players. This is also common in multiplayer Web3 games, to fake the presence of real people with bots.

In the Kiraverse game, the crash log is hard for me to read but it looks like a null access error which would likely mean their system is querying the server for the top players, and NO player list is being returned. It then assumes it would at least get something and accesses it, throwing the crash. So quite literally the crash seems to be that there are no players on the leaderboard lol

GRIT is such a bummer. I heard about it a couple years ago and was kind of interested. A wild west BR? I wanted to give it a go so I wishlisted it in Steam. After missing the playtest and then silence from the devs for months, I decided to look around the internet for any info on progress. Then I stumbled upon the Gala website saying it was turned into an NFT/crypto game. Literally out of nowhere. NTFs blew up and they decided to delay the game even longer to implement that garbage, ensuring it would be DOA. What a shame because I did like the idea.

I hope you don't have too much of a competition with Jauwn. Who is doing a similar series and probably you could collaborate and do twice the number of games than a single person could review. The only difference is that Jauwn says specifically he is looking for the worst.

As people already mentioned, it looks like all working games are build by using the Lyra base from Unreal engine 5 and only got a few edits. So I would say the best "working" NFT games are asset flips.

The fact of the matter is that the vast majority of crypto games are "made" by first-time Devs or non-Devs who used asset store packs to frankenstein something together. I'm involved in Crypto games and what's really holding it back is narcissist monsters trying to cash grab and claim they can make MMORPGs in a matter of months with 20 people (none of which are developers). It's madness... It's madness that anyone believes these dipshits too... So I'm glad you're exposing these games for what they are. Bad first-time outings (or asset store packs) from people with little to no game dev experience trying to cash grab.

I think this is great idea Kira with all your previous videos looking into Web3 gaming. As a life long video game player with over 3 decades experience I stand fairly firmly in the group that don't believe a crypto/web3 game has a chance of ever being a good game since they are not really be made for gamers but for investors. Still, I'd like to know what is out there and how it's progressing and appreciate your efforts to bring this to light since as you pointed out it's not as easy to find out if any of these games are any good compared to non-web3/crypto.

Your idea of these games always failing because theyre not games just money making machines is spot on. Thrse guys aremt making something fun to play when you get off work and thats their biggest problem. Also whenever crypto asses get their hands on what looks like a good game they immediately destroy it or abandon the project making the would be game be dead in the water legally.

I'm sure hundreds of people have made this observation before me, but I always found it interesting how these crypto games always market themselves with the whole "play to earn in-game items that you can sell for real money!" gimmick yet neither they or anyone who gets sucked into these money holes ever seem to ask themselves "Okay, but who would ever want to buy these items in the first place?"

I love that Kira does this and his approach and critical thinking is on point. He brings EVIDENCE - the thing that liars cannot handle. It NEEDS documenting no matter how many times crypto and other shit fucks up because as humans we have a tendency to be complacent and forget shit. By clearly documenting such stuff some people WILL learn.

I (very) briefly worked for a company trying to market "steam for NFT games" and the marketing materials were like ... every single time they needed a graphic it was axie infinity, because it was literally the only one that anybody would recognise. Like, to have a Steam equivalent you need enough titles to make a marketplace worthwhile and there just isn't anything.

Did that Legends of Aria crypto version ever happen? Might be an idea to do an episode about actual games that launched, failed, and later tried to convert to crypto games.

Pretty enjoyable idea for crypto vids

nft games are jsut the distilaltion of mobile games. mobile games are only for the whales, but they still have to make a product for the rest of us. nft games say "prove you're a whale FIRST, then you can play" thus reducing the content they have to make. it's natural evolution imo. laws that control the cesspool that is "mobile gaming" are too late. it's gonna keep getting worse. the next step will be having to open or link a bank account with the game company making the nft scam in order to even log in. your user will be your account number, your pass will be your pin. and legislation is still thinking if they should regulate lootbox gambling. we are 3 generations past that.

To me the graphics only look bad because of KZfaq's EXTREME video compression. Whenever you move around, everything looks like a 2005 game and when you stand still, it looks like a 2015-2020 game.

When I was watching I actually thought that the randomly generated skins in the one game was a cool idea. But then you bright it back at the end, why does it need to be crypto? Even if they are bought with real money, why can't you just trade them in game?

I really hate Kira's bias towards well designed games, why can't he just accept this minimum effort games made to promote scams? It's so annoying.

I was an artist for a crypto game. I was pretty deep in the koolaid at one point. But tbh, I think I just told myself that to justify it, and primarily I was more excited to make art and put stuff in a game. It's been over a year since I've had any work given to me, which is fine by me. I've had time to consider what I actually wanted to do and am pursuing that instead.... away from web3 and crypto.
