The Occultist without combo line is definitely from someone who was early and didn't have chaotic offering or warlock unlocked yet. I get the point of view for sure as early occultist was pretty much "wait, how do I even cast burning stars without having to hit two combos with stab or binding shadows"

Vestal being number 1 when her entire kit revolves around support in heavily damage oriented game, while bounty hunter, hellion and highwayman who are insane damage beasts are lower on tier list. Also love how MaA is said to have largest amount of defense via block tokens, yet enemies can easily take him down with increased damage lol. For blind mfs, MaA is said in article he can generate defense and survive ordained enemies, but many enemies can still wither him down with dots.

From my 8 hours in the game I already saw that with “more! More!” Flagellant heals MORE than what he receives, just insane.

how is stress even mentioned as a problem for this hero? They have a unique stress reaction, "toxic", which if used correctly is a powerful tool at the cost of relationship with your other party members

graverobber is actually pretty good, she has best crit potential if you know where to find certain trinkets, high crit chance + dreaming general trophy = constant 40+ damage

For me, the main drawback to runaway is you can't really fight librarian even though you took a damage dealer who can easily hit rank 4. That makes planning the entire trip to the mountain a bit more complicated. I prefer Alchemist PD for that since she can deal damage to any boss, whatever rank they want to hide in.

To me, this reeks of someone who actually did put some honest time into the game, long enough to form opinions...but didn't play deeply. PD at #1, if kept would make more sense than vestal.

Maybe I’m just bad, but I’m really enjoying pairing Occultist up with Leper. Daemon pull giving combo and yanking the backline up in Leper’s face for him to smack them like a baseball is immensely satisfying. Alternatively, hex giving weaken + combo for big bulldozer damage is great too. I don’t need no occultist tokens, I’ve got a batting cage (im sure this isn’t optimal but it is great fun)

I was lucky to lock Grave robber with Breacher quirk (+50% DMG, +75 Defence 2 turns) + Nightsworn path she is simply roks even without invisibility she oneshot almost every time two enemies. And if you got production of Shimmering Powder, that you are simply killing everything. Try there is a lot of fun with this build.

Flagellant is at the bottom? I have used him as the solo tank healer and stress healer using the scourge path. Easily beat acts 2-4 bosses first try with him as the solo tank/healer. Endure is extremely underrated as it makes him easy to toxic 2-3 times every fight. Easily the best stress healer IMO if you’re using him as the solo tank. Applying 6-9 blight just for being hit without trinkets is insane. I’ve healed him from 2-3 hp to full using more more + deathless. Undying upgraded makes it so hard for allies to die while giving you a free pain token proc for your more more to self heal. Also a tier list from you including all the paths would be really neat.

Would you consider making a video explaining/teaching dance teams? I really like Jester, but I just Fade/Razor/Fade/Razor/Stress heal/Bleed. I have no clue how to make Runaway or GR good.

If someone used flag once I can understand why someone would think he sucked he hurts himself a lot and he's shrine thirsty till you get sepsis

Some skills seem useless at first but can be overpower if you choose the right Hero Path for example "Grave Robber" with "Venom Drop Path" her "Flash Dagger" skills that targets 2 enemy doing low damage for nothing become doing "Bright" damage, with the right trinket it's one of the best Bright skill in the game.

Darkest dungeon 2 is in my top 5 for best roguelikes i've ever played... but i still didn't overcome the bounty hunter not be in the crossroads. :(

For me: A- Plague Doctor, Man at Arms. B- Highwayman, Bounty Hunter, Jester C- Flagellant, Hellion, Vestal, Leper, Runaway, Graverobber D- Occultist.

I tanked a fight where my other 3 characters died around round 7 all the way to round 53 against a perma taunted decon protecting an altar with just more more on the flagellant. Absolutely amazing ability. Of course the altar kept healing the decon, so there was no chance of me actually winning that fight, but it was fun seeing how long I could survive.

I don't use BH. Maybe tried him twice (played the game for over 200 hours since pre-release). I just dislike the temporary nature of the character.

i would like to defend endure on flagellant for the scourge path specifically. the other 2 paths kind of have a hard time justifying using endure in this way but with scourge, going toxic can actually be incredibly beneficial as a short term gain, long term loss. the way i've been using it is to let flag gain stress and let him hover around to 5-7 range. then use endure to intentionally trigger toxic to heal or buff in bigger fights, usually things like the confession boss, lair bosses, exemplar, or any time i spawn into a fight that i know is going to be problematic early on. doing this gives flagellant the flexibility to to either use deathless and heal someone else, or use endure to go toxic which then heals him to 45% and buffs his damage. its a bit less health than what deathless would have set him to, but if he is close to going toxic anyway then that extra health is likely going to be lost regardless, so endure just causes him to go toxic sooner which potentially prevents DBR checks while also reducing stress for someone else. beyond healing, toxic is also super powerful on scourge because the +1 blight dealt is really powerful on both punish and acid rain. on top of the blight on attackers mechanic which has the potential to deal some pretty massive damage if flag keeps getting hit. i've even gone as far to say that scourge flagellant almost WANTS to go toxic in a lot of scenarios, immediately deleting 10 stress, healing him to half health, and buffing his damage for a relatively cheap relationship decrease is actually really good. Endure is almost always how i trigger it. and before someone brings up the relationship decrease, as long as your not causing flagellant to go toxic more than you need to it doesn't cause too much of an issue. its more prominent if your already at low relationships but in my experience i have my flag go toxic maybe 2 or 3 times throughout the course of the entire expedition. usually one of those is during the confession boss. my worst run was one where flag had to go toxic 8 times during the entire expedition and i still managed to keep him above 9 relationship with 2 of the 3 party members before the confession boss, specifically the damage dealers.

Flagellant + Man at arms feels like the dream team to me. Flagellant self heal + bolster is nuts

This article made me stay away from flaggelent for so long until the tier list you did ranked him highly and now I love him. His blight build especially let me clear the third confession on my first run without even spoiling the boss.

I'm still a super noob at this game so I'm giving an opinion with limited knowledge but personally I don't disagree with Vestal being number one. It's almost entirely because I'm reduced to nothing more than a crack fiend when it comes to support classes but I also really love her skills, evidenced by her being the first, and only, character I've completed the shrine quests for. Although the team I've been running kind of relies on her so that could also be why she I have such high a favorability toward her, the tem is PD, Vestal, Flagellant, and runaway so it's probably a garbage team but I'm having so much fun playing it that I don't really care 😅

Some spells of the Occultist are quite strong as Deamon pull or Abyssal Artillery, but his heal (even with %heal buff compared to dd1) and the unchecked power mechanic is meme.

There's so many weird phrasing issues and general mistakes that it *has* to have been rushed. I feel like tier lists aren't that useful in a game that is so heavily dependent on team compositions. You could do one based on general effectiveness of each unit but I think a more useful tier list would be different team compositions ranked.

I only played the first DD, and most of dance teams i built were 2 same characters doing basically the same move that moves them around, for example 2 highwayman in the front row doing either reposts or point blanks, 2 shieldbreakers doing the funny all rank attack, and stuff like that. It is very intimidating indeed, considering you have to mess with speed (which i usually neglect lol), and despite having moving moves, finding ur heroes out of position also sounds very unpleasant

The Vestal‘s boob armor alone is reason enough NOT to put her in top tier IMO.

His issues at surface level description aren’t time restriction with his post; it’s his understanding of gaming, articulating as well as time restriction with his games. A more competitive or invested gamer that is also articulate, would have a better time doing this. I like very much that you are criticising not only the substance, but the perspective in which this game is viewed, which shows players as to why they should quesrion & try builds. As much as I love the Vestal, I knew when I saw Bounty Hunter at such a low placement, I knew that this article was some low effort bait.

There is nothing that a journo website could teach me compared to a streamer. I never would have used frontline stun/crit Occultist in DD1 without Shuffle always going off on how busted it is. And putting my boy Damian at the bottom is just a smack in the face.

Flagellant is the greatest tank ever. The person who ranked it must have no clue how to actually properly use them if they ranked them that low. Grave robber is easily the actual worst hero instead.

Cant believe Flagellant is the lowest in their tier list LMAO. He's a tank that can heal others and heal while damaging enemies. The 10% damage to himself doesnt matter much with More, More (actually, its a net bonus for him even without trinkets) and even if he does get low, he can Sepsis and he's back to almost full.
