I am pretty new to this, but already noticed that if I don’t have a team tailored specifically for certain boss scenarios, I have little to no chance from the start. This is unusual for most well tuned games, they usually have many ways to beat bosses with varied compositions. I am finding this annoying as I don’t want to look up how to kill bosses at first, I like to try and learn, but when the fight feels un-winnable with my team comp after an hour to get there….that is not fun.

I know that i am super late to the party, but thank you just the sme. It has helped me make sense of the unforgiving style. This game is so much fun! Speaking of leper, yesterday I decided to fight the fulminating prophet with a flagellant, an abomination and 2 lepers, and it worked out surprisingly well. I even took out all 3 pieces of wood, and only the healer died in the process.

The first Darkest Dungeon was shaping up to be one of my favorite games ever. But i ended up not enjoying the rogueLITE nature of it (aka loosing everything). DD2 being a rogueLIKE with meta progression systems has me very excited for the console release. Definitely a day one purchase for me.

I'm glad you're not evangelizing Bonk Vestal, as much as I love the name, but I keep hearing about how good it is from others. With Profane Scroll, she sorta deals backline damage as a frontliner which is cool but nothing to get excited about. If you want her to deal real damage, she has to ramp up with a few Hand of Lights and the amount of times you can actually do that when she either needs to heal or could stun is so low. I once ran her rank 2 with Profane mostly because I wanted two backliners on that particular mission but was missing a lot of heals... I forgot to switch her skills away from rank 4 vestal and I probably performed better than when I normally run her rank 2 just cause there was never even temptation to press anything other than stun

I'm still pretty new to the game and was doing a run yesterday with full DOT run to see if I could finally beat Act 2 boss (I suck at the game lol) Alchemist PD for Blight and heal, Virtuoso (fuck the bleed path, Virtuoso best path for anything) Jester for Bleed and Stress heal, Arsonist Runaway for Burn and Cauterize, and Scourge Flagellant for tanking, the massive heals and ally DOT removals. Run was going extremelly well and while I wasn't planning on facing any specific lair I ended up in the Tangle as region 3 and I was upset yet kinda laughing how I fcked up the root management and my party was wiped out... EXCEPT for the flagellant, mf refused to die and wanted to solo the boss and once the Toxic started to ramp up it was over for the General. Still soloed the rest of the region unil the Obliviong thingy they started to stack bleed and a lucky crit took me out, honestly my favorite tank, but have to experiment with its moveset, if I read the skills thouroughly and realized Acid Rain can hit the root maybe my party wouldn't have died

I played against the Swine King (or prince, I forgot), lost two teammates to Wilbur, barely finished off the boss and lost my last teammate to Wilbur. My last remaining character was Grave Robber, no Pick. It was humiliating, having to retreat from the battle.

I see a lot of negativity on DD2. I recently got it and was a bit disappointed at first. But after playing a while, it became so obvious the combat is vastly better than the formulaic rock, paper,scissors of DD1. I think the loop nature and carriage are easy to poke fun at, but overall the combat depth and synergies are better by a huge distance. Maybe it helped I got it late and some things were fixed up a bit.

Now I'm just starting out and am 90% blind with this game but I had a thought the other day while playing, what about two arbalests/musketeers in 4 and 3 then houndmastwr/bounty hunter/graverobber/crusader in 2 and a hellion in 1? I know I'm probably committing a cardinal sin by suggesting to bring an arbalest at all let alone doubling down given what I understand to be vehement hatred of the class on this channel/in this community but I'm curious as to how effective it could be.

Does dreaming general tap root behave differently with 2 stacks vs 3 stacks of rooted? Like does 3 stacks create a stronger version of waking dead?

I think the really frustrating part of lair bosses is that the aoes act as a timer for the fight. There is little way to counteract a boss cleaving your whole team, and typically you go into a lair boss after facing 2 rounds of fights. And if you didnt get fcked before the boss, you will be in bad shape after succeeding. And for me personally i only ever die to leviathan anymore (worst designed). For the others if i die, its typically the road fight immediately afterwards, and if it rolls collector i just abandon.

They really should have like a cliff or sand pitt. So if Leper misses with the Chop more than once you just push him into abyss. Or have Highwayman right behind him to just take his friggin head off.

Just completed my first grand slam, it will probably be my only one. PD, Runaway, Crusader (Banneret) and Flagellant. Huge backline damage but minimal direct damage to the middle made a couple of fights scary.

You need to play the sequel, library of Ruina , next. It’s a great game. Just don’t ask about love town. We do NOT talk about love town.
