The Ferdinand or Elefant is a heavy tank destroyer based on the hull of the Porsche Tiger. It was quite unreliable historically speaking, but it still managed to do pretty well. It's good in War Thunder too.

@@StuartLegomanLittle Agreed, but warthunder doesn't model transmission and engine failures because that would be fun for absolutely no one xD I'm pretty sure for some reason spookston meant in-game, which is REALLY weird because there's a few meh/bad TD's at rank 3-4 and they all have WAY worse armor/survivability than a ferdi.

Spawned by the thought of "What's the dumbest thing I can ask Spookston to play" and "What annoys me the most": Can you pretty please play the Churchill VII? BEEG reason why below; Yes it's British (no APHE) and yes it has dogass penetration (103 flatpen max), but it still works most of the time and the armor is so good that if you angle well even people at a full 5.7 uptier usually can't do a damn thing. Helps that for some reason most of them want to shoot your hull, and you KNOW when they're not aiming for your hull because you can see them stop and watch the cogs in their brain turning. Then you just angle your turret (if you know they have more than ~150mm of flatpen) and watch the German mains confusedly continue to shoot your side armor in a brilliant display of the definition of insanity. I had a staredown with a hetzer when I rolled up to their spawn, neither of us could pen the other (I spent all my HE shells and am shit at aiming) so we just took turns shooting each other's track and failing to aim for barrels. In the meanwhile I killed three Panzer IVs as well because the turret traverse for the Churchill VII is actually very good, cca 15 degrees stock with only two bars in Targeting and no crew specialization. Basically, unless you get swarmed or flanked, your fast reload, good turret rotation speed and amazing armor guarantees you can win any encounter, even against multiple opponents (if dumb enough), with barely a scratch on you. I'd even go as far as to say it's OP and would be genuinely broken if, hypothetically, it had a stabilizer (even a bad one since it's realistically not gonna go much faster than 20 km/h) or APHE.

Before the major BR changes, the Ferdinand was fun as hell to play for me. I have it with a full Expert crew, so the reload is hilariously fast for the long 88. I don't play it now as it's not that enjoyable for me.

the M60A1 RISE (P) is quite a hidden gem if ur only planning to stay around US 8. bracket. If you can bare its mediocre mobility, its capability remains consistent in its br, uptier or not. Its ERA is definitely effective against most of germany tanks since only few of them has sabot rounds, and its APFSDS allow it to fight uptier enemies without being too one-sided. And as a cherry ontop, 8.7 also open you up to a lot of -revenge- CAS option, including the Squad A-4E and Hueys with ATGM and ITOW The only reason to not get it is because the M60 tree leads nowhere. You should give it a try! (3)

I'm currently trying to spade M60A1 RISE right now Still handle pretty well for 8.7 I wouldn't recommend Huey with TOW ever since missile physics change, its hilarious how AGM-22 perform better just because its slower at turning compared to TOW that turned into snake if you move too much, proven by how many western helicopter player still using old heli with AS.11 for heli CAS

My granddad was a sapper on the eastern front, also worked alongside with guys who recovered left tanks during battle of Kursk. He told about one ferdinand(or elefant) that got shot by 203mm artillery shell right in commander hatch(firstly they thought the ammo racked). I believe it was fastest transition from casemate to open-top vehicle during battle

According to a historian and journalist Svirin M.N., on 9-10 July 1943, near Poniry Station, 654th German heavy anti-tank battalion alongside tigers and brummbars battalions fought with Soviet forces. 10th July, heavy artillery barrage by 203mm B-4 howitzers started pinning down ferdinands, making them retreat, but the battalion tried to rescue tanks up to 14th of July Ferdinand with serial number 701 was found by Soviet forces with destroyed crew compartment. Further investigation led to conclusion, that 203mm artillery shell landed on commanders hatch, destroying the vehicle beyond any repair

@@CPTRailfan It wasn't hated at all and despite the modern memes about it there's not a single report about one being lost to enemy infantry even before the MG was added. Modern midwits tend to forget that it had accompanying infantry. Both during and after war veterans loved it. They felt completely safe from enemy threats inside and considered it a "life insurance" of sorts. Don't stay silent about things beyond your ken, trainboy. Great Video. I, honestly, love the Ferdi and elefant, also the JgdTiger, they have a way too low reputation. you can do awesome things with them. if you take your time and learn it a bit. the canon is a great oneshot (88 & 128) and also reload fast enough

The Ferds hull as you said was a Porsche Tiger hull the reason it exists is cause Porsche thought his Tiger would win and premade hulls and they more or less went "We have these hulls and dont need His Tigers.....Waste not want not make it a Tank Destroyer"

You should do play the German DF105, it is an oddly tanky vehicle since there is a lot of empty space, and it’s got a great gun, fast reload, great speed, great maneuverability, and commander override. It fits your run and gun play style.

I mean - the nonpen at 14:00 is pretty clear in hindsight. Clipped the upper front plate, but at an angle that it would not actually get inside the tank even if it pens that.
