What I love is that it’s one of the most enjoyable ways to prove to yourself that you can do anything you put your mind to. It’s both equal to everyone who tries but individually yours all at the same time, and Through achieving things with skateboarding, you look at others doing the same with it, which creates a mutual love and respect for it.. and then that creates community and culture around it which is really amazing. It’s just an incredibly awesome thing that exists ❤️

Being a parent has made hearing any kid cry for their mom absolutely gut wrenching. That clip was actually the hardest thing for me in this whole video. That being said, much respect to all these skaters in this series for getting back up through all these injuries and sticking with what they love!

About a year ago, I was skating my high school, el Camino Real Charter High School, the clip where he rolled his ankle on the ledge tail slide kick flip out, and while I was skating there I roll up to the cafeteria and there he was Tory Pudwell himself with a few other amateur pros. it was really cool to be skating close by to one of the pros! I got some tips and was motivated to 50 that whole ledge off! It was epik! i’ll never forget

Amazing to see these pros getting back after such gnarly injuries. I pretty much stopped skateboarding after my first major injury which was an ankle roll (more or less ninety degrees, no surgery was required somehow), took almost two months to walk again, and 4-5 months to run and start doing other sports. This didn't stop me from MTB tho, and about a year later, I tried to hit my first proper trail jump and I flipped over my bars, tore a ligament in my foot an had to get surgery, two screws in there to hold it together while it heals. So yeah big up to the pros who get through this kind of crap again and again for the love of the sport :D

Yeah man, I feel you. At 45 I've been skating for 30+ years, but a month ago I was coming down a hill at speed and I was riding just a little bit too fast and loose, looking forward to the fact it was Sunday lunchtime and no-one would be on the hill so I could bomb the whole thing without worrying about sudden braking for pedestrians. Sadly, I clipped a nasty chunky patch of concrete I usually avoid and took a dive at 30mph, resulting in my best collection of injuries in a single setting, six broken ribs, a cracked radial head at the elbow and a broken scaphoid in the wrist. Second time I've broken my ribs but it was a lot worse this time. About a week and a half after impact I slept at a bad angle and depressed a couple of the ribs and then later that day when I sneezed, the rapid inflation of my lungs reset those ribs with an audible crunch. Still, another two or three weeks and I should be good to ride again. I'm looking forward to hitting that same hill again though. I'm not superstitious about things and it's one of the best local hills, so I don't want to lose it as a spot. Now the weather has turned nice it's chafing my arse sat here not able to skate! I don't recommend doing ribs, especially not a lot of them or in several places. It still feels like I've been stabbed in the back of the tit from where the broken ones shifted back into place. On the upside, it's a practical demonstration that pain doesn't have to stop you for my son. While I wasn't able to manage cramming into the school bus with him for a few weeks, we walked in instead, which was a daily total of 8 miles (for me, there and back twice), and the first few days I was making a lot of involuntary noises every time the ribs got joggled as I walked, but I still managed. I wisely decided not to skate until they're a bit more healed though, I don't want to fall on them again before they've knitted together a bit more. If you break your ribs, be prepared for the pain to get worse each day for the first couple of weeks. They don't heal up as fast as arms and legs in my experience. I could use my hand again within a day, and I had more or less full strength in a week, at the cost of some pain, but the ribs are still uncomfortable a month on and while I can lift and carry and not notice it too much at this point, lying down to go to sleep they remind me they're not fully knitted yet lol. Won't keep me from bombing hills though, that's my love in life, my passion and the time when I both think most clearly and don't think at all. It's so visceral, but the cost for inattention or mistakes can be pretty high. This is the most damage I've done to myself in 35 years, and having responsibilities to keep up with only makes it that much more complicated if you do fubar yourself!

Going to the gym solely for legs really excelled my ACL recovery after surgery. So much so I was feeling great after about 9 months (minus random clicking and popping which is normal) then I have now torn my meniscus trying to ollie over this little grass gap lol. But point is, you do gain your confidence back. Scooter kids getting in my way while i was moving fast caused me to jump off my board to dodge them really helped my knee confidence too lol. Keep your head up, if Joslin, Torey, Prod and a bunch others can skate after knee injuries you can too

You never will. It ruined my snowboarding career, once it tears it will keep tearing if you keep ripping hard. I am on my third tear, with post traumatic arthritis due to all the damage. I switched to surfing once I could not ride anymore but it still tore again. Take it easy or wear a brace, which you won't because they are annoying as hell. Good luck!

Do skateboarders in America have insurance? I mean, in Europe is it pretty normal to have insurance for almost everything (I pay 130 euro a month and I can go to the hospital for pretty much anything (and surgery's)). Just a simple question from a frensh guy : when you go to the hospital after a skateboarding slam, is the surgery (or the different cares) free or do you have to pay for that ? Do you need a special insurance ?
