I've seen the custom shin guards of Asamoah Gyan (the Ghana international). The older brother played a couple games in my team and he wears a lot of his brothers old stuff like the costumes EvoPowers with Gyan #3 and the Ghanian flag on the heel. The shin guards are made of carbon fiber with the name, number and flag in the middle.

I really like them, I've been wearing them for more than around 4 years now. It feels like you're not wearing anything. One thing that bugs me about typical shinguards is the way they keep slipping, these ones are very adjustable under your socks.

My J guards are fine, I tried flexing them like you did but was unable so either they toughen up over time or they changed the plastic. From my experience they work fine, the only complaint I have is they slide around pretty easily, but since I got new socks I don't have that problem anymore.

I have worn a lot of different mid range price shinguards which should be better than the J guards and I keep coming back to the J guards because I feel they are more protective because whenever I got hit in the multiple shinguards I’ve worn the ones I have felt the least amount of impact(actually feeling the hit) is the j guards

I hate shin guards and these were my fave growing up when I played. Cheap and subtle on my feet / shins. However, I didn't realize how bendable they were lol! Pretty scary to now think about it.

I have just ordered a pair of these. A few recent games I have used squashed Starbucks coffee cups. My previous shin pads were too heavy and cumbersome and uncomfortable. I have had some bad injuries through football, none of them oils have been prevented by good shin pads. I need something lightweight and comfortable that it isn't going to move around

I just bought them because they are light and that so I can have a better performance while I’m playing. But as he said it does not give much protection which means there is a higher chance of injury. I am most likely to wear them in training instead of match’s just because I don’t want heavy shin guards on me.

I believe its very pliable because it acts like a crumple zone so basically it absorbs impact rather than repelling it back, which is more important in preventing injuries especially in bones like the shin that is very rigid to begin with yet has no way of distributing any perpendicular forces not like your feet knees hips ribs spine etc

This is nothing like that. There's no impact absorption tech here. Just flimsy plastic and thin, cheap foam. They work as shin guards and offer some protection for sure, but there are certainly way more protective shin guards out there.

They're not worth the retail price in my opinion, nor are they all that protective. They're fairly thick as well.

They're more protective. I don't think these are bad if protection is not a priority for you. If it is, than these are not a great option.

I used to get the XS Adidas F50 shin guards and rip the foam off so it’s just a thin piece of plastic that was small enough to wrap my shin bone Best ones if you hate how shin guards feel

Hey Josh, I just got the Nemeziz 18.1 and have tried breaking them in for a couple of hours (they are the right size) the problem is there is a lot of pressure on the top of my feet and they left a red mark on each of my feet after taking them off, is there a chance this will go away or should i just return them. (I got no blisters and there is enough room for toes at the end) thanks

I don’t know how this popped up in my feed, I used to love your shoe reviews. Haven’t seen a video since the superfly 5s. I played 4 years of varsity, in the super y as a kid, and continued playing as an adult in Random “elite” leagues all in j guards haha. They don’t stop pain from impact, they make it manageable. I had a coach who played low level pro and he said shin guards don’t do much, if someone is gonna blow through your leg, they are gonna blow through it. Oddly in a lower skilled league I may want more protection. Some of those guys don’t know how to lay a proper tackle and come in more reckless.

BTW, before the 80s, players were not required to wear shin guards, just like Cruyff, Kempes, Pele... just showing that you don't really need them to play football!

I was never satisfied with the J guard. I have skinny legs...the sleeves on these are inadequate. Forcing you to tape. Which is very constricting while working out, and even tape cant keep them in place. Like josh said, we like to use the same old gear, I should rewind to the ankle guard type sadly.

I mean...as long as the padding absorbs the shock and the plastic doesn't cave,crack, collapse, or let the tip or hell of a boot to wreck your shin I'm not too picky. I used to train muay Thai so my shins aren't too sensitive..buuut my 20 buck adidas shinguards never let me down.. except they're tiny and I always seem to get hit right above and right below them 🤣🤣🤣

I use those shin guards. They are way better than any other shin guard I have used, and I have used shin guards that are 50 bucks. Just because they bend doesn't mean they are bad. In fact, if they are too stiff it may hurt the leg more because the energy of the kick will be transferred into the leg.
