In this video we notice a storm is brewing and we foolishly head out into it anyway. We also may need to pay more attention to the compass.

Weight distribution and setting sails properly would have saved you a lot of times. Can't wait to see the moment when you finally realise haha

lol at "Is that okay that water is coming in?" I feel for you though: I just sunk my starter ship trying to go from Gold Rock to Dragon Cliffs. Made it over halfway and then a rogue wave tipped me over.

It's a tricky game when the water is on the inside of the ship. Thanks for commenting and watching!

Goodness. I haven't seen waves like that yet and I've been sailing in the emerald archipelago. XD try loading your cargo more in the back to help keep the bow of the boat higher in the water. You can rotate the cargo with the scroll wheel. It helps a lot with fitting everything in.

This is why I always double and triple-check my navigation. I really don't blame you for going towards gold rock. I once misjudged things a whole lot, mistook Lions Fang for the Isle of clear mind and ended up on the open ocean instead of at Neverdin. Shit happens :P

Yeah! I was way too excited and didn't double check. Lesson learned... I hope! :D

The different types of cargo have different weights, and these small starting ships are pretty sensitive to weight. Food and goods tend to be the lightest. Books are somewhat heavy, so you can carry them, but not too many, and distribute them evenly. Metals are very heavy and typically you'd want to bring only 1 and keep it as centered on the ship as possible.

When you woke up and turned towards Gold Rock... xD Anyway I will give you a few tips: 1. If you want to keep straight don't lock your rudder, by itself it will tend to wobble with the waves but that is good as it will keep you straight more or less. If you lock it in place the waves will push you to one side or the other because the rudder won't be able to compensate. Only use it if you have to keep turning while you also have to use the sails. 2. Cargo balancing matters as of the latest patch so keep that in mind, but the player character has no weight for now. 3. Don't let the bigger waves hit the ship on the side if you want to stay above the surface. 4. Pick up the tutorial scroll that is in your boat, you've only read the first page but it has a couple more that explains how to properly use your sails. That's it for now. Good luck!

Not that recent I know, slowly, I´m still watching and enjoying this series. Without the opportunity to do it in real life but I love boats and ships specially the ones from the Age of Discoveries when sailing was a science, and maybe an art, that would depend on timing winds and the studies of nature and maritime environment. Maybe being portuguese, a descendent of the great navigators of all times, the fathers of the most advanced navigation technics during the discoveries wich are still used by the best sailors today, I do have this passion in me. Well, let´s go to the point. I would love to experience the navigation myself but unfortunately I don´t own the game so I can only take thoughts and conclusions from what I see in your videos. I believe you were forgeting/ignoring some physics principles there wich are leading you to sink and have your boat doing crazy stuff. My conclusions: Cargo actually carries weight on the game and it is noticeable when you board the ship holding a box in your hands. As you get in the boat you can "feel" the boat leaning to that side and as you move to the other side the boat will lean to the other side acordingly. It works the same way as you move to the bow or stern you "feel" the boat going up and down. Weight distribution and balance through the boat it´s a must specially with heavy loads and rough seas and storms. Drop full sails leaving the port doesn´t seem to be the best approach, as for any other vehicel holding cargo you want to start slowly and increase throttle/speed as you go. Side winds are worse and more dangerous than the waves. 90 degrees full sail on side winds will certanly tip you over so it´s best to avoid that kind of exposure by changing the heading even if for a few degrees, and/or pull/roll your sail up in order to keep the boat better leveled within the water line and safe from taking water in and eventually sink. A very helpfull technic that may save your boat at anytime is to use the cargo to balance the boat. If side winds are making the boat to lean dangerously to one side moving the cargo to the opposite side may balance the boat enough to keep it above the water line and not to sink. This technic also works with big waves if you choose to sail agaisn´t the waves you can move the cargo to stern and keep the bow higher so it breaks the waves better. Sorry if I am being anything else than helpfull. I honestly hope you understand the postion of someone watching such a lovely experience and limited to just that without the chance to try it itself. To the next one...

Thank you for your advice and suggestions. I agree with a lot of what you have said and I think I am a lot more proficient in the later episodes. The character model itself doesn't have any weight at the moment, the cargo does however. I am not sure if the weight of the cargo is felt while the character model is holding it. I shall look out for it next time I play. I am really happy that you seem to be getting enjoyment out of the videos I have made! Thank you for being part of this tiny community. :)
