It's great to hear someone like MVP admit that even if he personally has that oldschool mentality, that he knows that's not how things work anymore and embraces it. It's ironic because for how prominently Jim Cornette gets featured in these Viceland documentaries recently, he's probably THE guy who most exemplifies the gatekeeping that MVP is disavowing here. The guy just can't be pleased unless it's 1969 or something.

mvp made money with Vince only for 4-5 years maybe? If that. Cornet made money in the "territory" wrestling and every major promotion for 35 years.
@Boyetto-san
@Boyetto-san 5 жыл бұрын
@@jeffbradley5723 See, that's the problem here. Corny is free to dwell on the fact that he's had the decades-long experience since the territory days. But the fact is that wrestling has changed, not necessarily at a pace he can't keep up with, but just refuses outright to keep up with. When Corny was asked about the Moxley interview with Jericho, you could tell that he wasn't even up to date with the news and just went back to his stories about Vince in the 90's. I respect his wealth of knowledge and experience, but that doesn't give him a free pass to be a malcontent purely on the basis that things aren't the way he remembers them to be. That's what MVP gets that Corny doesn't.
@jeffbradley5723
@jeffbradley5723 5 жыл бұрын
@@Boyetto-san they have definitely changed for sure, I think the "showbiz" part is appealing to fans these days more than "realism" if I can say that... In cornets day, fans bought the good guy verses bad guy story. There were no lights and fireworks of course. I think mostly what he harkins back to are the days when the two guys in the ring generating all of the attention no music no hoopla, and that's what drew money. People were truly emotionally invested.. That is not the case in today's wrestling.

This is good stuff. There is a big world of professional wrestling outside of the WWE walls. Now-a-days it is much more of a likelihood to make a decent living as an independent wrestler with the rise of KZfaq and social media to help promote an individuals personal brand. Also smaller promotions are getting more visibility because of this now more than ever all across the globe. Now with that said it doesn't mean that everyone is getting rich and as an independent you have to be a hustler because you are responsible for your own schedule. In the WWE things like that are already being taken care of for you. But as a independent you have control over your own likeness but you are paying all your costs to get to bookings. In WWE once you sign on the line, WWE can do whatever they please with your character unless you get special say so and only really a handful of guys can do that in the WWE. As a fan of professional wrestling I still know that being a wrestling fan and let a lone a fan of wrestling outside of the WWE is really still a niche thing in the grand scope of entertainment in general. If I were to bring up wrestling to a casual or someone who doesn't follow the business and I have done this numerous times because I try to find people who are fans as well they will all immediately think WWE. WWE absolutely drives the industry as a whole. Normally when WWE is doing well then that usually coincides with everything else as a whole. Traditionally that is how it works. But the world outside of WWE has never been healthier and proof of this is the spawning of other promotions popping up, the growth of Japanese wrestling and even Lucha in the U.S. as well as the newly minted AEW which is pretty much a by-product of the ground swell of support for independent wrestling over the last decade. Even though AEW is a baby it is already leading the growth of the sport and business that does not have the WWE brand.
@RobertPaceII
@RobertPaceII 5 жыл бұрын
@@pisto30 The UK's influence on the independent scene goes without saying. Promotions like NGW, WOS, PROGRESS, and ICW have been breaking ground over in the UK for a long time now. Hell PROGRESS sold out Wembley. I admire everything the UK scene has brought to the table for the independents. Cody Rhodes therapy project? What? Not sure where you are going with that, but it isn't just Cody that is doing great things with AEW as far as the brain trust. The Bucks are also behind that movement but more importantly the Kahn family is invested and specifically the son Tony Kahn. In 2019 absolutely, AEW is leading the pro-wrestling movement outside of the WWE. That is not taking anything away from what the UK has done over the last decade or what the Japanese has done as well ROH, and TNA/IMPACT's influence. But AEW has tangible success already that they can hang their hat on and it has only been in existence for 6 months. AEW sold out Double or Nothing in quick time. We will see what the turn out of Fyter Fest looks like. ALL OUT sold out in 15 minutes man. To add, AEW was ablt to do what TNA/IMPACT took many years to attain but then lost because of mis-management and what ROH has failed to do in their nearly 20 year existence and that is land a major television deal. In 2019 I would absolutely say that AEW is head and shoulders above anything not under the WWE umbrella.

so instead of sitting and being paid he left to work hard and get little money now that shows you how much he loves the sport rather than the cash that's what's up cuz that's real

Actually on the indies now if you hustle you can give yourself the opprotunity to make more than in WWE. It wasnt like that 10 years ago.

It's changing these guys are actually able to live. So they keep saying rich dota B is offering $80000 contracts only because of AEW look what they offer James storm I make more money than what they offered him. That's ridiculous. These guys are getting well off he just signed to a good company and there's like 10 and they will pay you well usually WB is failing and it's helping the industry as crazy as that is

So, I was planning on joining a training facility in the Midwest, but the owner told me there is no money to be made in the independent circuit (like $0). To my knowledge you are far from the champagne lifestyle when your in the indys, I was guessing maybe $100 for a match. Promoters pay their wrestlers once they are a draw. What is this guys angle?

I think MVP, Ron Simmons and Teddy Long should come together and form an all black Wrestling promotion, to give young upcoming black kids who want to persue a career in professional wrestling a chance to show their talent, especially kids that come from the hood, and dont have a any guidance. IJS.
