For as long as I can remember, for as long as I have been a wrestling fan all I ever have heard is how the wrestling business is dying, how WWE sucks now, how wrestling will never be mainstream again, etc etc. Over the years I believed it, just a few years ago it seemed as if wrestling was going downhill, and even though we were getting some cool moments. The magic was gone.. well now in 2023, its a brand new world. WWE is setting attendance records, viewership is going up, PPVs are must see television again.. and over at AEW they are about to do a show in front of 75,000 people. What seemed impossible just a few years ago, is now happening.. The Wrestling Business Is Boomin' lets take a look at it

As a literal lifelong fan of 30 years, I can confidently say this is the best time to be a wrestling fan. There's something for everyone. Even outside of WWE and AEW. And it's all so accessible. You know how many times I dreamed of being able to watch WrestleMania on my GameBoy as a kid? Now I basically can. Not only that, but I can basically watch any match from any promotion in a near INSTANT. Then I can go on KZfaq or Twitter or Reddit and talk about what I just watched, or what I'm currently watching, with the entire world. Man, I would've KILLED to have this type of access to wrestling when I was a kid.

WWE has been pretty consistent this year, especially when it comes to the pay-per-views. Every PPV this year has delivered bangers. The stories, like Sami turning on Roman, Backlash 2023, the Usos leaving the Bloodline, celebrity appearances from the likes of Bad Bunny and Logan Paul, the rise of characters like LA Knight, the presence of factions like the Judgment Day, and well-booked babyfaces like Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes, has made the product enjoyable to watch.

In my opinion, i think this wrestling ‘renaissance’ began around 2015/2016 when guys like Seth Rollins, Kevin owens, zayn, etc. entered the main event picture. NXT black and gold was in peak form, and omega and bullet club were establishing themselves in New Japan. Match quality throughout the business improved tremendously during this time and has evolved to a level i honestly never thought wrestling could reach. The amount of athletism displayed in todays era and throughout all companies is absolutely incredible. Just glad we stuck it out all those years of the PG era because it certainly was rough

The biggest difference is simply that the product is finally listening to the fans. Vince for the longest time ran the company with an iron fist and often did things out of spite or as a pure power trip. HHH knows the business inside out and what makes it great and is putting it in the forefront. You listen to him during the post PLE pressers and you can tell he has a deep appreciation and knowledge for wrestling. As long as Vince doesn't get in the way, we're in for some very good years of high quality wrestling.

Hogan, HBK, Austin, The Rock, Cena and Roman were chosen by McMahon as the faces of the company in their times. Sure there were times when it failed like the Lugers. HHH doesn't seem like he has that so far hell the people that were released under McMahon and returned under HHH only have proven that McMahon was right to release them. @@cerebralassassin2185 I can say though, there is a slight uptick in America, but only by 300,000 viewers since the pandemic ended from the ratings charts I see. That's still a far cry from the Attitude Era and Golden Era. In the case of Japan, the ratings for wrestling in general continue to decline. This year, they were only able to sell 40% of the Tokyo Dome for Wrestle Kingdom, let alone the show revolving around Antonio Inoki's passing. While in 1999 during "Japan's Attitude Era" (the AJPW/All Japan era), the Tokyo Dome show dedicated to Giant Baba's passing was an instant sellout. In the case of me, I stopped watching Japanese wrestling full--time when Dr. Death Steve Williams got sick in 2004, and my Japanese girlfriend in the late 2000s when her favorite wrestler (Toshiaki Kawada) started ageing-out like Randy The Ram. Likewise, NJPW's TV viewership in Japan in early 2023 is about 100,000 people when in early 2021 it was 200,000 people. Oddly, that's about the number of fans outside of Japan. Some of the smaller promotions in Japan have viewership of 10,000 people, like Zero-One (which got controversey for the Yasukuni Shrine), Pro Wrestling NOAH (50,000 viewers) and the indy promotion using AJPW's name (25,000 viewers). In the case of Japan, 100% of the viewers are part of the wrestling fandom. There are no casuals left at all as someone with contacts in Japan, as well as my girlfriend who has some family in Japan.

Definitely the best year/era since The Attitude Era. The bloodline story consistently pulling in an additional 400-500k viewers when it's announced, an actual face of the company that can actually draw alot of money via Merchandises, views, and butts in the seats, the Judgement day being one of the most relevant factions ever, Gunther's historic and iconic IC Reign, the woman roster being the most STACKED it's ever been within it's insane talent in Belair, Flair, Lynch, Stratus, Ripley, Asuka, Damage CTRL, with some addition of legitimacy (Ronda, Baszler), The commentators has never been this good before, the continuous huge crowds WWE has been getting especially these Pay-Per-Views even with just Roman Reigns on the card is ENORMOUS, The bloodline story alone has put over Owens, Zayn as the Unified Tag Team Champions and also making them main eventers themselves, The USOS doing the best works of their career not just with their recent historic tag title reign but also the bloodline story, upcoming huge talent in Solo Sikoa, the rise of Cody Rhodes, Brock Lesnar still doing Box Office draws even with his 20th year of appearance and being past his prime, the L.A Knight hype and momentum, possibilities of huge returns in Orton, Rock, The insane talent pool of NXT stars, NXT peaking in draws(Merchandise, Attendance, Views) the continuous mainstreaming of WWE and even their own rival AEW is doing amazing. Highest draws since it's founded, CM Punk Returns, Rise of MJF, former WWE stars being known and acknowledged.

From 2018-2020 i stopped watching wrestling. I’d only watch Wrestlemania or Royal Rumble, but it wasn’t until RR 2021 when Edge won that caught my eye. Seeing the buildup and anticipation for Edge to win back the world title he never lost was so awesome. Just to have a dominant Roman Reigns that was actually killing it as a character beat him. That was awesome too, then the PPV that really got me back into it was MITB 2021 when Rollins cost Edge the match and Cena returned after. From that point on i’ve been watching weekly like I used to do during 2013-16. I haven’t enjoyed pro wrestling like this since the yes movement and oh my lord is it nice to have a company like AEW rival WWE. Even the indies are awesome with the likes of Matt Cardona.

If everyone from old-school Jim Cornette mega fans, to people who only tuned into AEW to see what Kenny Omega and the Bucks cosplayed as this time, or people who just tune in to see Rey Fenix, Vikingo, or Ricochet do some gymnastics, if they all just set down their negativity and tribalism for companies and each other, and just watched any promotion for individual wrestlers and storylines they enjoy, the wrestling world would be so much better.

I believe because of the media rights era we live in right now wrestling financials look great. But I still see a lot of empty arenas and the average person in the street more than likely won't be able to name 3 active wrestlers. The Attitude Era was just so unique and mainstream it had wrestlers from all 3 major promotions on TV Shows, Sporting Events, and movies. Everyone I knew including myself had either an NWO shirt, DX, 3:16, Rock, Y2J, ect even when I was in elementary that was thing to watch. Now as a parent I've never seen any of my kids or their classmates with wrestling tees on. Neither my kids or nephews ever seem interested in watching whenever I have it on. So to call this era a "boom" is quite a stretch. And they should be alarmed as their audience is only getting older every year. The average age of a WWE consumer is 53 as of 2023 and the data is not too hard to find. So this is just a boom for those living within the bubble.

@gx1tar1er your using youtube views and clicks to say whether a business is booming or not? WWE is breaking records with every show their doing #1 trending on twitter basically every week. The most talent ridden era in wrestling history. Yes better than 1999-2001. You guys like Okada,Omega,Rhodes,Orton,Punk,Reigns,Rollins,Zayn,Moxley,Knight,Ospreay,AJ Styles and many more. Not to mention wrestling as a whole is just better and you legit cannot argue that. Women's wrestling is 1000x better than what it was the attitude era. And genuinely if we look at the attitude era as a whole it was very rocky. Examples being Over The Edge 1999,Mankind versus Rock "I Quit",Rock Bottom 1998. Those PPVs and moments were not very good or they were shock value. So yes wrestling is the biggest since 2001 and it's producing a better product than ever before. Yes it does not have a star like Austin or the Rock. But it is gaining more interest each and every week you cannot deny that fact.

The fact that tv ratings go up by 400k or 500k when theres a bloodline segment on tv is just INSANE. The biggest jump in wrestling history was when WCW spoiled Mankind winning the title, plus Austin running out. It jumped 650k viewers, including help from WCW fans jumping ship. The fact that the Bloodline segments are getting even close to that is inSANE. I think we can legitimately say that Roman is finally doing prime Cena numbers tbh. Hes not on the star power level of Cena yet, but if his career keeps with this momentum, he'll be as mainstream as Rock and Cena by the time he retires.
