MK is apoplectic about Gil, almost everyday he can't suppress his over the top obsequiousness about Gil Don't get me wrong , the guy is on fire. But he previously had TJ surgery and he is predominantly a fastball pitcher. The amount of torque he places on his shoulder can't be sustained. I hope I'm wrong.

The problem in the second half of 2022 was there was no offense other than Judge. It was a home run or bust offense. 2024 the team can score in multiple ways and your have really good hitters around Judge. Stanton I consider a bonus. In 2022 he was a hitting beast until just before the All Star game and his legs broke down (he should never have been playing in the All Star game).

His running is still such a red flag for me but I guess he’s in better shape considering his year so far. This team is just different than 2022 clearly. Not only that, the 2022 team lost Carpenter who was on fire as well as some arms. This year they just seem to have much more depth and higher performers in general

The Yankee magic is just inconceivable for a Mets fan, they must be thinking how can the Yankees keep getting guys like this again and again. Having a guy like Gil pop up is a pipe dream for the Mets. Having a generational talent, or even two (and keeping them and not ruining their career) just doesn’t happen in Mets land. Also have you not seen all the bad contracts we've seen throughout the years? There's no guarantee that spending is led to wins, period. Tell me how Rendon is working out with the Angels? How about Javi Baez? Oh yeah, Xander Boagerts is now gonna be the next albatross for the Padres. You think the Guardians, Rays or any of these owners want to take those kinds of risk? Absolutely not. Why? Have you not seen all the bad contracts in baseball? Are people gonna keep fooling themselves and not open their eyes? Teams don't want a salary floor, especially the small market owners because a lot of these contracts are bust and albatross that don't work out and will only set their organization back. Tell me how Rendon, Xander Boagerts, Javi Baez wood out? Oh yeah, how about Stephen Strasburg? Exactly, they were bad contracts signed and those teams are now paying the price for that. The key to success is drafting and developing. Also a salary cap is 🗑️🗑️ and will not make the league more competitive. Under a salary cap, service time manipulation is gonna increase and players don't want that.

As a back-of-the-rotation guy this year, Cortes has been darned good. The front office has to see how it goes with Clarke Schmidt's recovery before making any decisions. And they also have to factor in any possible innings limit for Gil down the stretch.

(i.e. Pitchers are facing a lot of bad teams this year.) Just saying that - as expert baseball commentators - wouldn't you think they'd put 1 + 1 together and discuss both topics in tandem within the larger context of the overall 2024 season thus far? (Maybe they did during the full broadcast.)

Probably after the All Star break. I get 2022 vibes from this team but the difference is that it isn’t just Judge this year. Soto, Volpe, Verdugo, and even Stanton at times are contributing. Not all 9 guys are going to be super stars. Also, their pitching has been stupidly good. Way better than I thought they would be.

Cleveland, Atlanta and Milwaukee might ask if you want to step outside and settle that argument. But yes, the disparity is particularly stark right now. However I don't think the disparity in the records of the top 8 or so teams will be nearly as drastic by the end of the season. Time will tell, but it's still relatively early. (And there's always the chance of an unexpected WS winner when all is said and done.....like last year).

This season’s Yankees are the clear favourite to win the World Series: They have superb starting and relief pitching, an offense juggernaut, and depth in LeMahieu, Dominguez, and Berti. The catching tandem of Trevino and Wells complement each other. The only thing that might put a monkey wrench into the smooth operation of the gears might be some boneheaded managerial decisions by Aaron Boone during the playoffs.
