Great video Dean, you were lucky with the weather. I've clocked in many times at the Pen-y-ghent Cafe but sadly won't be doing again as it's now closed. Love the walk...hardest part for me (always) the descent from Whernside, though it was more tolerable a few years ago as I was listening to a Cuckoo. Hope you enjoyed the pint, both pubs are a very welcome site when you finish...and so is the camp-site run by LEGEND Chris Sutcliffe (by the Golden Lion).

I did this walk with three friends in about 1954 or 1955 in 11 hours 5 minutes. In those days it was mostly just straight across country There were certainly no stone steps on any footpath , there werer pretty well no footpaths, It was a good walk, about the hardest part was crossing the limestone at the foot of the climb up Ingleborough and then going straight up the tussock slope, there ceretainly was no path at that time, Kendal Mint Cake gave us the energy to climb the slope

This is a toughie, at 63 i went round starting at Ingleborough then struggled up Whernside and got to the foot of Pen-Y-Ghent and did not have the mental or physical strength to get to the top so took the footpath back down to Horton-in-Ribblesdale. It was beautiful weather and scenery and went round with a great group of people. Next time more prior training and i will only take wha i need in the rucksack!

I’ve done this walk many times and would strongly recommend it. You don’t need to be especially fit, but the main thing is for your feet to hold up. If your feet blister it will become a pretty hard slog, so for anyone considering giving it a go make sure your footwear isn’t going to give you problems. I must have done it 7 or 8 times and overall finishing times have varied between 9 to 10.5 hrs. Definitely make sure you get an early start as you don’t want to worry about running out of daylight.

I have wanted to do this challenge for over 2 years now. I go to a brain injury group and the man who set the group up has done this challenge 3 times once a year for last 3 years. It’s been a long debate between us weather I’d manage it I’m determined I would he’s not so sure. This year he has been saying it’s too high risk for him to take people from the group to do any of the peaks, but last week he finally said next year we will do one peak. So I’m keen to make sure he sticks to his promise and to prove I will manage fine. I know it will be tough as we did 9 mile at hope valley last year and it was me struggling with that which put him off doing more so I’m seeing this one peak as a test to see if it’s realistic to want to complete all 3. I have got a lot of training to do with limited areas with hills and steps but will do all I can. Does running help get fitness up for the this challenge? I know it’s not a running challenge but I’m thinking running makes you breathe faster same as walking uphills and steps so maybe it could help.

Well done . I really like this video. Very informative and makes it look easy challenge wise except when you reach Ingleborough. The video gives the details about what to expect for the first timers. Any more tips would you give for less experienced climbers who are doing challenge first time without guides other than carrying map and compass 🧭 and right equipments. Thanks in advance 😊.

Want to do this so much. I attend a group and the man who set the group up has done this challenge 3 times and doesn’t think I’d manage it. This is where it gets tricky cos he is responsible for everyone who goes there so to do this with me and anyone else he would be responsible to make sure everyone was ok. Now I would much rather just do them without him having to be responsible but that’s not possible. We have had a few changes of plan due to him having to be responsible and me struggling on a walk in Hope Valley. Last year after me struggling at Hope Valley he said no more walks like that ruling out ever doing any of the peaks. Cut long story short I have done some hill training and kept on wanting to do 3 Yorkshire peaks. He has now backed down a bit and agreed we will do ONE peak this year. He is wanting to see on app on my phone any walking I do probably so he can make sure I will manage one peak which I will. What happens after we’ve done one isn’t decided yet as until we do one we won’t agree as I want to do 2 or 3 next and he’s not sure as it will depend on how I get on.

8:32 Best part of the video was seeing a Sheffield United badge in the rear window of that car! Only joking.... been eyeing up this challenge recently and was aiming for end of January. Because of daylight hours it will be tough to fit it all in without the need of a torch. Was wondering what month of the year you did this? And the one thing you didn't show was the apparent long slog between summits 1 and 2? But this video has helped us look at what to expect. Would you advise on wild camping over night?

I am determined to do these hopefully next year. I go to a brain injury charity every week to meet people who’s had brain injury like me. I was in car accident 7 years back luckily ok now and the man who set the charity up has done this challenge every year for last 3 year. He made the mistake of saying I wouldn’t manage this challenge which made me want to prove him wrong. We did do a 10 mile walk in hope valley and I did struggle. I managed I was never ever going to give in even when I felt dizzy and had to sit down. I was the only person that believed I was going to finish the walk and I did. But cos of that they decided no more tough walks like that. So now after much discussion I’m onto plan 2 which is training on my own to show them I would manage then hopefully go with the man when he does them again.

Make sure you also try and set-off as early as possible with the dark nights coming in (04:30-05:00 start is ideal and bring a headtorch with spare batteries, waterproofs, spare drys, spare snacks etc). Well worth getting those extra running miles & gym sessions in preparation beforehand (especially core work-outs if you're planning on carry heavy loads) - you'll thank yourself for it. My bro and I have done this 18 times over the years (in all sorts of weathers, scary ones too)...my last time was before the pandemic kicked-in. I intend to do this again soon but need to physically prep for it. All the best mate - you'll have an amazing time...such a great, rewarding walk and challenge..one of the best! - you'll want to come back and do again!!
