This is a real dharmic documentary, great tapasya, thank you man.

I was first exposed to the long count system when I found my introductory path to spirituality in a traditional Hindu system of teaching and practice. But when I came across Steinmetz and Selbie I was attracted to the short count system at once because it was much more encouraging to see us as situated in the beginning of ascending Dwapara yuga rather than still being at the beginning of a much longer descending Kali yuga, to be followed by another long, ascending Kali yuga. That had us facing over 460,000 more years of the grim nightmare I saw in the news each week; frankly, I couldn't imagine us surviving through that and figured we were doomed to nuclear warfare or something equally horrible. Now, with the passage of time since I discovered the short count perspective, I see signs of opening and increasing consciousness and spirituality that correspond well with the notion of being at the beginning of Dwapara yuga. Finding videos of content like that which you present in this one exemplifies this developing process. I'm 72 and I assure any readers that the essential nature of this video's content, and the rise of "alternative" researchers, is something that was absent and almost impossible as little as 50 years ago. There is still plenty of nasty crap going on in the world, but we can hardly expect things to change from one yuga to the next in an abrupt and complete fashion. It is more reasonable to assess the badness as lingering from earlier but that it is on the wane; while new, healthier thinking and perspectives are on the rise. Thank you for your contribution!

Coming from a background prior to Judaism of "you shouldn't read anything unless its christian." Its all so fascinating. I also have listened to Graham Hancock. humans in satya yuga lived for 100,000 years, in treta yuga lifespan was 10,000 years, dwapara yuga (thats written in the bible) lifespan max is 1,000 years and now in kaliyuga 100 years is about the max. Each yuga is populated by a different species of human beings.

I don't care about yugas, but I and my future generation have to protect India and its Ancient Religion, culture and texts in such a way that it should last till the end of all lifeforms. There is a lot going on both good and bad. I have just considered in protecting the real texts and it's Sanskrit language understanding.

According to Puranas, each kalpa consists of fourteen Manvantaras, and each Manvantara is headed by a different *Manu* (the first Man of every cycle). The current universe, is asserted to be ruled by the 7th Manu named Vaivasvata. In Vishnu Purana, Vaivasvata, also known as Sraddhadeva or Satyavrata, was the king of Dravida before the great flood. He was warned of the flood by the Matsya (fish) avatar of Vishnu, and built a boat that carried the Vedas, Manu's family and the seven sages to safety, helped by Matsya. Total age of universe is 311.04 trillion years (human years). Current age is around 155.521972944 trillion years. How it is calculated: -> There are 4 ages on earth which keeps circulating: Satya Yuga - 1.728 million years Treta Yuga - 1.296 million years Dwapara Yuga - 0.864 million years Kali Yuga - 0.432 million years Total: 4.32 million human years. -> This yuga cycle is called maha (in english, it means great/big) or divya (divine) yuga. One thousand such cycles forms one day of Brahma. So one day of Brahma is 4.32 million * 1000 = 4.32 billion human years. Each such day of Brahma is called a "kalpa". His night also constitutes 4.32 billion human years. During his day, life exists in universe. In nighttime, no form of life exists. So one complete day and night has 8.64 billion human years. -> Age of Brahma is 100 years. Each year of Brahma has 360 days and same number of nights. Thus, total age of Brahma is 360 * 100 * 8.64 billion = 311,040 billion human years. i.e. 311.04 trillion years. This period is called "maha kalpa". -> The life span of the universe is one "maha kalpa". i.e. 311.04 trillion human years. This time span is also the duration of one breath of "Vishnu". When he exhales, thousands of universes emerges and one "Brahma" is born in each universe. When "Vishnu" inhales, all universes get sucked and Brahma dies. -> This cycle is non-ending and eternal. Thats why "Vishnu" is considered eternal in Vedic Science (or religion). How much old is our universe: -> Note that the period of Satya Yuga is 0.4x, Treta Yuga is 0.3x, Dwapara Yuga is 0.2x and Kali Yuga is 0.1x where x is the time-span of one maha-yuga cycle. I will use 'x' as 1 maha-yuga cycle subsequently. -> In 1 day of Brahma, there are 14 "manvantara" (Manu Avatar). Each "manvantara" is divided into 71 "maha-yuga" cycles. So total make 14*71 = 994x (mahayuga cycles). -> Remaining cycles (1 day of Brahma contains 1000 maha-yuga cycles) are used to fill gaps between manvantara. Before and after each manvantara (called as "sandhya" and "sandhyamsa" respectively), there is a junction of 1.728 million (age of Satya Yuga, or 0.4x) human years. Total number of junctions are 15 (since there are 14 manvantaras). So total gap period is = 0.4 * 15 = 6x. Hence total makes 1000 maha-yuga cycles or 1 brahma day. -> According to the Vedic texts, current age of Brahma is 50 Brahma years and 1 brahma day (we are in the 1st day of 2nd half of brahma)and we are in the seventh "manvantara", in the 28th turnover of its 71 yuga cycles. In this cycle, we are in the start Kali Yuga. Age of kali yuga is not known perfectly but it is around 5000-10000 years. For calculation, lets assume 5000 human years. -> So current age of our universe (in terms of maha-yuga cycles) = (50 * 720 * 1000) -- 50 years * (360 days + 360 nights) * total no. of cycles in one day/night + (6 * 71) -- 6 manvantara each of 71 maha-yuga cycle + (7 * 0.4) -- 7 junctions or gaps for 6 manvantara + (27 * 1) -- we are in 28th cycle of 71 + (0.4+0.3+0.2) -- In this cycle, we are in Kali Yuga. Satya Yuga, Treat Yuga and Dwapara yuga are 0.4x, 0.3x and 0.2x respectively. + around 5000 human years -- very small, so ignoring it. Thus total age = (36,000,000 + 456.7)x = 36,000,456.7 * 4.32 million = 155,521,972.944 million years = 155.521972944 trillion human years. Now add the age of kaliyuga. i.e. around 5000 human years.

The " long count " system is what , up till now , I've understood to be , so to speak , " gospel " - having recieved this knowledge during a time I spent as a " brahmachari " in an ISKON temple during my early 30's . The founder of ISKON , Swami Bhaktivedanta Prahbupada , explains our current time period to be , as you point out here, the age of Kali , but that , as he goes on to expound , we find ourselves currently in , what he calls a " golden age " lasting 10,000 of our salar years , having begun approx 500 years ago with what he refers to as the advent of the " Golden Avatar " known as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu , whom , he claims is a divine incarnation of Krishna . Prahbupada goes on to mirror what you describe concering our current age of Kali , as he points out the appearance of the Kalki Avatar introduced at the close of the 432,000 year Kali yuga cycle . Each of the 14 Planetary Systems are in there own time zone, for example, on Brahmaloka, the top most planet in this single material universe (there are billions of other universes too that are deep inside other Brahmanda universal shells coming from Maha Vishnu) Therefore 100 years on Brahmaloka is 311 trillion and 40 billion human years from the view point of our earth globe. And in all 14 Planetary Systems the movement of space-time is different as Srimad Bhagavatam explains

It's a little too happy happy joy joy. Stellar work otherwise :) Side note, I thought the Dawn of the Age of Aquarius was the beginning of the Ascent of the Kali Yuga, no? Essentially the end of the last 24,000 cycle of descension and the beginning of the new 24,000 cycle of ascension. At least, this is what I've heard from many spiritual platforms.

I was watching a amazing Documentary on the Yugas done by Sheldon Moore. I like his ideas on the Yugas cycles being far shorter than explained. He brings tons of geological evidence to prove his points as well as he has the backing of many Hindu scholars. He makes a grate point that when the Pyramids were built and other mega structure's it was around 12,000 years ago for people to build said structures they weren't in the dark ages. I think these Yuga cycle numbers are way to long for it to make any sense with humanity as we can prove modern humans have only been around for 200,000 years or so. It seems like humans go threw cycles no doubt but the length of time seems far shorter than what represented in these teachings. It's very possible that the amount of time these cycles last is mislabeled. if these cycles lasted 1/10th the time they would line up 100% with geological evidence for the state of man kind. Also the binary star system being 24,000 years makes these 6,000 and 12,000 years cycles make much more sense from a astrological stand point.

This equals the time before water overflows in a six-pala-weight [fourteen ounce] pot of copper, in which a hole is bored with a gold probe weighing four masha and measuring four fingers long. The pot is then placed on water for calculation. 2 Dandas make one Muhurta. 6 or 7 Dandas make one Yamah, or 1/4th of a day or night. 4 Praharas or 4 Yamas are in each day or each night. Tithis begin at varying times of day and vary in duration from approximately 19 to approximately 26 hours. a paksa (also paksha) or lunar fortnight consists of 15 tithis a masa or lunar month (approximately 29.5 days) is divided into 2 pakshas: the one between new moon and full moon is called gaura (bright) or shukla paksha; the one between full moon and new moon krishna paksha a ritu is 2 masa an ayanam is 3 rituhs a year is 2 Aayanas TROPICAL METRICS a Yaama (याम) = 1/4th of a day(light) or night [ = 7½ Ghatis (घटि) = 3¾ Muhurtas (मुहूर्त) = 3 Horas (होरा) ] 4 Yaamas 1 half of the day (either day or night) 8 Yaamas 1 day (day + night) an Ahoratram is a tropical day (Note: A day is considered to begin and end at sunrise, not midnight.) Reckoning of time among other entities Reckoning of time amongst the pitrs. 1 human day = 1/30 day of the pitrs 30 days of human is 1 month of human = 1 day of the pitrs 12 months of human = 1 year of the pitrs The lifespan of the pitrs is 100 years of the pitrs (= 3,600 human years) Reckoning of time amongst the Devas. 1 human year = 1 day of the Devas. 30 days of the Devas = 1 month of the Devas. 12 months of the Devas = 1 year of the Devas The lifespan of the Devas is 100 years of the Devas (= 36,000 human years) The Vishnu Purana Time measurement section of the Vishnu Purana Book I Chapter III explains the above as follows: 2 Ayanas (six month periods, see above) = 1 year or one day (day + night) of the devas 360 days of the devas = 1 year of the devas 12,000 years of the devas = 4 Yugas Reckoning of time for Brahma. 12,000 years of the Devas = 1 day of Brahma (4320,000,000 human years). This day is divided into 10, 000 parts called charanas. The charanas are divided as follows: The Four Yugas 4 charanas (1,728,000 solar years) Satya Yuga 3 charanas(1,296,000 solar years) Treta Yuga 2 charanas(864,000 solar years) Dwapara Yuga 1 charanas(432,000 solar years) Kali Yuga The cycle repeats itself so altogether there are 1000 cycles of yugas in one day of Brahma. One cycle of the above four yugas is one mahayuga (4.32 billion solar years) A manvantara consists of 71 mahayugas (306,720,000 solar years). Each Manvantara is ruled by a Manu. After each manvantara follows one Sandhi Kala of the same duration as a Krita Yuga (1,728,000 = 4 Charana). (It is said that during a Sandhi Kala, the entire earth is submerged in water.) A kalpa consists of a period of 1,728,000 solar years called Adi Sandhi, followed by 14 manvantaras and Sandhi Kalas. A day of Brahma equals (14 times 71 mahayugas) + (15 x 4 Charanas) = 994 mahayugas + (60 Charanas) = 994 mahayugas + (6 x 10) Charanas = 994 mahayugas + 6 mahayugas = 1000 mahayugas as is confirmed by the Gita statement "sahasra-yuga paryantam ahar-yad brahmano viduH", meaning, a day of brahma is of 1000 (maha-)yugas. Thus a day of Brahma, kalpa, is of duration: 4.32 billion solar years. One such unit is a "Maha-Kalpa" which is composed of 36000 such days of Brahma. One Maha-Kalpa is considered as the lifetime of Brahma. There are time units which are larger than one Maha-Kalpa. The largest of them has been calculated as several quadrillions of human years. This precise and massive calculations indicate one important aspect of vedic time system, that, whenever the term "Infinity" has been mentioned in Vedas, it does not indicate something very large. Instead, it appears that the term is meant to refer its literal synonym itself.

Both short and long count systems are correct, the short count is basically superimposed on the background of greater Kali yuga. In essence, although there's an overall decay given we live in the very beginning of the 432,000 year cycle of the great Kali Yuga, there will be still "mini" ages of ups & downs determined by the precession of the Earth giving rise to the mini cycles of 24,000 years "located" within the greater 432,000 years of Kali yuga. In short, both views are valid and not contradictory.
