Today, we're going to talk about two EDC flashlights from Zebralight, both of which take the 18650 battery, the SC62 and SC600 II L2. Both are solid lights, with great brightness and good battery life, and both are hindered by poor light quality and a rather fiddly interface. On the whole, the SC600 is a better thrower and is a bit better suited to the great outdoors, while the SC62 is a solid, bright, and floody option for EDC, when you want a lot of light in a little package.
Both are solid lights, and both have their uses, but at the end of the day, although I'm happy to recommend the SC62 for EDC use, neither quite hits the mark for "gem".

You have to be a be a bit of a flashlight geek to fully appreciate the Zebralight interface. Personally I think it's absolutely the best interface out there but you're absolutely correct in that it's not intuitive.

I think it sucks. But I'm not a huge flashlight geek. I mean I like them but don't wanna have to think about how it works. I wanna go outside at night push button light works. I have a zebralight and I end up messing up settings then I go to use it and its dead. I just don't understand them I guess.

@@shane4176 Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it sucks. Ironically if you understood how to use it properly, you'd realize how advanced it really is. And you don't haver to think how it works, you can just press it on and off.

It's so simple it's kinda sad this is even being discussed. Shit if you think the UI on a zebra light is tough stay away from anything that has firmware in it... Also just out of curiosity you say you're not a big flashlight geek but you spent the 70 plus dollars for a zebralight not to mention without even researching it first?? I mean to each his own but I remember before I was really into flashlights there's no way I would have spent that kind of money or even ordered a flashlight online for that matter,.

I love the interface as much as to say I won't buy another brand cus of it. Can get to any level from off in as fast as you can press once for high, twice for medium, or hold 0.6s for low. Gets you to the sublevel last used, like medium 2, which is programmable in it's brightness by 3 different levels. To go from like Medium 2 to M1, just double press. Holding the button will circulate the levels. Tripple for strobe, four for battery, flashing 1-4 times. It's just brilliant and you'll learn it in first day of owning it.

Definitely not a flashlight nerd because although i would agree that they definitely arent "grail" lights, the SC 62, 63, and 64 models ARE indeed "gems" amongst the flashlight community particularly the sc64 w hi, much better tint and beam profile in my opinion than the SC 62 you got there. Main reason to being as you pointed out it was the longest time and possibly still even is the most compact 18650 light available but also what really makes a zebralight "shine" is they're highly efficient drivers that yield excellent run times and brightness to runtime ratios. The thing about it is zebralight is a bit of a "pseudo" American company then they are owned and operated by Americans but I believe all the production work and manufacturing process takes place overseas (china) and it's been my experience that they seem to do most of their work from behind the curtains being as they are very active in the forums or anything like that or even really have any advertising or marketing really whatsoever pretty much relying on repeat customers and flashlight enthusiasts at this point. As I said it's just my experience but I can't recall ever seeing any zebra light Representatives or owners/ employees ever posting anything in any forums or social media platforms, in other words one kinda has to do their homework to really know the features of zebralights, so it isnt too surprising that many people arent aware of their potential. They have an ALMOST HDS like cult following which is pretty impressive for a chinese made flashlight, that in reality is really the complete opposite of a "custom" flashlight. So much so that each variation they release of a certain light they render as individual seperate models and on their website each even has its own product page, something that imo they could probabky do away with and it would definitely cut down on alot of the zebralight model confusion so many zebralight virgins face. Just my 2 ¢, thanks.

I was happy to find this review. I have versions of each of these lights and typically have one of the two in my pocket. I think you overstated the complexity of the interface. It’s different than many other lights but after carrying for a few days, it’s second nature. You actually have six power levels readily available providing good coverage across the brightness range. I actually use the low/low power frequently as it allows me to move about in the dark without disturbing others who are sleeping. The one ugly of both these lights you missed was the heat they generate when on bright settings. It only takes a few minutes on high for the SC62 to get uncomfortably warm on the highest brightness. I’m a big fan of your reviews and value your opinions. Thanks for your support to the community.

Most cities have one or more vape shops and all vape shops sell 18650's and the chargers for 18650's so, there ya go! I have the SC600w II L2. Great light and I agree, the name is a pain. Thank's for the review!

You should definitely check out the SC62W for better color light output. For that matter the SC63W is the new version that's even brighter. Also, you can customize the modes, like you mentioned and the light remembers which mode you left it on for each high, medium and low but ya, confusing interface that takes a while to get used to.

Wait, are you double clicking in each mode? If you double click medium it'll get brighter. Each mode, high medium and low all have secondary modes accessed with a double click

I actually thinked about getting SC62. but went crazy and got LedLenser F1R. 1000 lumens too... and 3 levels. SC had more things about it, but that interface changing light levels was a turn off. You might like it more. High 1000 Medium 250 Low 10. But its batteries last worse.

I admit I have some bias toward Zebralight... I've used them in Afghanistan for 7 actual years boots on ground. Zebralights interface is pretty straightforward... and pretty similar to most lights on the market. Press and hold for moonlight, press and release for the last mode you used, press and hold while on to cycle modes (low, med, high). Pretty basic flashlight stuff. Where it differs is within each mode you can double click to change that particular mode higher or lower (and that held in memory). So... for the example of medium not being bright enough for you; double click and now your medium is brighter and stays that way. They are also available with different color temperature and LED options.

You are not really familiar with the UI, it has levels and sublevels without the programming...
@allemander
@allemander 7 жыл бұрын
You described each mode (and the gaps in between) as if there were only 3 (L M H), when in fact, there are many more sub-modes among each main mode that can be reached easily with just a double click within each main mode. You did mention "some programming', which is true, but the really big gap you harp on isn't really a significant matter, once you learn the UI. Ribbed for your pleasure, IMO, is a cute joke but it was mentioned a few too many times. After all, it's not a condom review. 😂
