44秒~56秒辺りに、3機編隊で降下している零戦は貴重な台南航空隊の記録映像です。3番機の台南航空隊の特徴である胴体斜め帯が良く映っています。尚、この撮影は、海軍報道班の吉田一氏です。

Some pretty interesting (and heated) comments on here! The extremely demanding design spec was actually exceeded by Mitsubishi. No other aircraft firm even tried to meet it. The Rei-Sen’s ‘failures’ (light construction, lack of armour etc) are all plus points in an aircraft designed to dogfight in an offensive, attacking military role. Japan intended the Pacific war to be short, and won by this attacking doctrine. In short, the Rei-Sen was actually designed perfectly for the job it was meant to do. And just look at it, very few piston engines aircraft look as good!

but it did not keep upgrading the platform, as the Allies did. the zero was boss against the Wildcat and P-40 but went to hell in a handbasket when the Hellcat entered service. hellcat had a 12-1 kill ration. the F4U Corsair had a 11-1 ratio. when those entered service the Zero went from being Boss of the skies to just another target.
@kneeslider47

paul m I agree. The Hellcat was superior in many ways. It’s all been said before of course but Japan simply couldn’t hope to match the manufacturing industry of the US, Britain etc at the time

Spinless nation who loves their Gods as long as they are winning the war. They will come back at us sooner or later.

零戦の最大の武器は長距離を飛べる航続能力。 基地が無くても、遠距離の敵を攻撃できる。 しかし、数時間飛んで数分戦って、数時間飛んで帰ってくるといった運用でパイロットの負担が大きかった。

I think 3:00〜5:30 from japanese movie film. And 5:00〜5:30 is also movie film , the scene is based on true story Fusata Iida who died on Pearl Habbor raid. He had taken a hit by anti aircraft fire, after he showed his wing men to way to aircraft career Soryu , he suicide attacked Kaneohe air field ,Hawaii. I think american solders had a angry anger to japanese solders against pearl harbbor attack , but they built a grave to Fusata Iida. So I appreciate to many americans solders what they did.

No you have it all wrong little fella, the west liberated Asia from Japanese colonization, you see little fella Japan wanted to be the Ruler of Asia under what the Japanese called "The greater Shoa society co-prosperity sphere" Which translate all of Asia under one ruler, Further more little uneducated fella Japan was plundering all the natural resources from all these Asian countries, so my question to you little fella, if Japan was liberating Asia from the west, then why were they raping and murdering the populations of these Asian countries???? Why did japan commit genocide on 250,000 Chinese in the city of Nanking??? If Japan was liberating these countries why did they do that???? Ask the Philippino people what the Japanese did to them, You see little fella you don't know what you are talking about because you are so uneducated and ignorant.

I must ask and maybe sommebody from Japan will answer on that question. Why Japan didnt bomb gigant fuell tanks in Pearl Harbor? In The day of bombing was about 1 mln ton of fuell in Pearl Harbor and nobody didnt throw even one bomb on this object. It was Nagumo error or plan error? Cuz Nagumo error was : stop bombing after first attack. So many important targets left. Attack crushed airfields and aircrafts of the enemy and it was briliant time for the next round.
@2456tack

I am not a specialist but just checked some reports on Japanese wed sites, so please read my answer as one of the ideas. After reading some articles, I think the reason below is the fact. The fuel tanks of US navy were too strong that zero fighter cannot destroy. Even if they could, they would not attack because the smoke from the fuel tanks would have disturbed the field of the vision from the sky. Also, the JP army knew that there were many walls that prevent the oils from leaking to other areas, so the damage would have been very limited. The main purpose of the Pearl Harbor was to let US to loose their will to fight, accordingly a report on a website. So I assume JP didn’t concentrate to destroy the naval ships, not the tanks. In some other reports, the commander, Isoroku Yamamoto, was blamed for not attacking the tanks. This may be totally wrong but this is what I see on the websites...

I think Japan did not want to have a war with the US. They simply wanted to intimidate the US and hoped to have a peace treaty with them, like what they did with the Soviets through the Battles of Khalkhyn Gol in 1939. They hoped that the Americans could agree Japanese Navy's control over the Pacific Ocean. But they did not have an intention to invade the United States because they knew it was too much for them.
@thomasromano9321
@thomasromano9321 4 жыл бұрын
There were actually two attack waves. Nagumo negated a third strike force which would have targeted the storage tanks of aviation fuel. Some of Nagumo's pilots objected to the flags stating Nagumo's objective which was that the two waves of planes had achieved their goal over Pearl Harbor, and there was no need for a third strike. This turned out, and you are right, to be a serious tactical error on his part. The United States was able to bounce back by getting ships repaired and refloated fairly quickly. If the storage tanks had been bombed half the harbor would have gone up in smoke, and the damage would have been far more serious. Moreover the U.S. would not have rebounded so quickly. Not surprisingly, Nagumo made another serious military tactical blunder at the Battle of Midway, which cost Japan the battle. He was removed from command after Midway by the commander of the Combined Pacific fleet: Yamamoto.

The zero itself isnt that special . What makes it special is the pilot . The japanese pilot made it into what it was . The fighter pilots are the only thing that gave japan a chance against The US . once they were depleted the war was over . And the fact us can manufacture planes that were ultimately much faster and stronger . But Japanese fighter pilots were definitely great .
