Isn’t the whole point? normal everyday life but you never see the horror, you only hear it in the background and the protagonist do not care. And this is making parallel to current western civilization and the « zone of interest » people have regarding the media.

Theres not a movie, which depicts the Nazis as "normal" people. It shows that they were living like everyone else, while believing in their own ideological stupidity, terrible things happening around them and having to pretend to have a normal family life.

Two trailers for this film, that I've seen. The first, official one, gives you more what you, disappointed person, want in a trailer, but not the full monty. Too many quotes praising this film. After watching the film, I'd say this trailer hits the most powerful scenes in the movie, uncannily. I will use this one for my blog post. But maybe what you are really disappointed with is here's another movie showing what the bad guys do to innocents, innocent in the sense that they don't deserve it in any way, shape, or form. It's not showing how to heal that. We haven't gotten that far in cinema, or in society I'd say. But of movies that show what the bad guys do, this is the most powerful that I've seen, and it doesn't even show the evil they do but their private selves, their ordinariness, their humanness, when they're off work from evil. The power of the movie, however, is not there. It's in the sublime, almost subliminal way the film includes the bad being done, people being shot, children being executed, begging for mercy, kids crying out in terrible, heart-wrenching pain, while, for example (a scene this trailer includes, for a second) a little boy is at play in his room and becomes aware of what is going on behind that wall that surrounds his house, and you know that it's not the first time, and how he handles it: "Don't do that again." This is a work of genius, and of that there is no doubt. On the way to pick up my little boy and take him to school, it hit me hard, and I broke down and cried, a delayed reaction, but I think that has something of the flavor of what this movie is really about.
