My thoughts on that radiator would be that the bloke has taken it to a mate who works at a garage, ramped up the price so they can do it, probably for the £200, and then split the rest of the money.

We had a similar situation but with own courtesy car a customer borrowed, they came back into our work place pissed off saying "the abs light is on, the exhaust is about to fall off, you guys have given me a shit car blah blah blah" and we got it in the workshop and yes all these things were wrong but what he failed to mention was my friend at the time who was my customers friend also happened to film my customer taking our 2wd fiat panda offroading, rallying around fields and they ditched our car (they put this on Facebook, Snapchat etc. Thinking it was hilarious) and bought it back to us in that state... I quickly showed my dad (the owner) the video and he's since been banned for life for having a courtesy car! That customer also is incredibly quiet Everytime they come in for work and hasn't spoke to me since what a surprise! Another great vid James!

Part of the problem these days is that cars generally are so much more reliable than previous years 70’s 80’ s 90’s. Many will just keep running if serviced regularly and when you look at how well they are put together shut lines etc compared to previous periods it’s chalk and cheese. As a result we have a lot of drivers who never check anything and when a problem develops it’s always the car. I remember a friend of my wife wrote her engine off allowing the oil to go too low and ignoring g the red warning light ( and the noise). Unbelievable

i had a similar incident involving social media, had a young lad drive into the back of me on a roundabout, he then claimed i swung into him, while i was stationary. my wife found him on facebook, and he had a common friend, my cousins daughter, so she lifted some screen shots of him racing the vehicle around a field, and doing burnouts, just before hitting my car. we sent them to insurance company, who then found his insurance agent and his girlfriend were the same person. claim got settled nicely.

For the door lock I'd say yes to having a look at it and fix it if it's a pretty simple job because it's good customer service and word of mouth that you're a good fella to deal with. For the radiator, nah, wear and tear. The customer may have requested extra work done and they added it too the estimate. I've done that but it was approved by the insurance company.

Thanks for another interesting video. Back in the 80's when we lived in Hertfordshire we rented a shed on the farm to a guy and his son who repaired cars professionally. This was the days of the Yuppies, lots of them gave the impression they were rich, funny thing was you could guarantee they didn't pay the milk bill for the other business we ran on the farm. Another friend ran a window cleaning round to, he said down stairs in these houses "that was publicly seen" had all the best stuff, but upstairs they basically slept on a mattress on the floor with no wardrobes/draws for clothes either L.O.L. The repair guy had a car in for MOT with 4 brand new tires and it passed, about 3 days later it's back with a fault and 4 bald tires that was odd they thought, until they took it back. The neighbor had exactly the same car with 4 brand new tires that matched exactly to what was on this car for MOT. Basically the car owner borrowed tires and wheels to pass the test on his,and there were several more of these cars down the same street with these yuppie non payers. I'm wondering if the global economy is tanking again now if the same things happening with this, he's trying to bung it through for a buddy in financial trouble with the same car needing a bit more than a Rad to fix it. Take care.

People like this have always been around. They love to impress their equally plastic friends and neighbours but the reality is , they haven't got a pot to piss in. There's more of it around these days, with PCP available so easily on cars. But the rising interest rates and cost of living costs rocketing now is putting a real squeeze on the 'all fur coat and no knickers brigade'. I just sit back and laugh at them , running round like scalded cats , knowing that everything I have and own is paid for.

Hi James another great video 😉 I think the problem with some customers is they don't understand how cars work. Having be a petrolhead for many years and owning and maintaining many old ford capries I know the basics. I was in the market for an old runabout a few months back I found a 2008 ford c max petrol 1.8 titanium for around 2 grand on sale at a small dealership. I decided it looked good in the photos and the dealer had replaced all four brake calipers and disks. I decided to buy the car without seeing it in the flesh so had it delivered. I am a ford man through and through so I knew it would be pretty reliable 😉 the car arrived looking really good . I refurbished the alloy wheels I also had to take apart the window washer bottle from under the wing as the window washers were not putting out any water . I found out it is as a common problem with the water filter at the pump getting clogged up so an easy fix . The car has never missed a beat since and even though I had a few little jobs to do I was well impressed with the car . I guess what I am trying to say is some people will always expect far to much from a 15 year old car but they have to be realistic .

Unfortunately some people expect a used car to be as good as a new one. I bought a Mazda3 from a dealer 130 miles away based on a 360 video. The info display was ghosting, but I hadn’t realised (£1000 to replace), the rear bumper isn’t aligned properly and there was a missing Service, even though it was advertised as FSH, and the front tyre was deflated by the next morning. The Bose front door speakers were vibrating with even the lightest of bass. That’s what you get for buying a 7 year old car. Disappointed, but a realist

Reason for not working on his bike was it was a cheap Chinese bike that parts not available for plus they are a terrible so fire risk and so my insurance won’t allow these bikes to be worked on, again, this is on my web page. I bought a 2006 Citroën C4 coupé in January of last year. It's the beautiful one with the split rear screen and the spoiler. It wasn't expensive, €2800, and had 150K miles on the clock. It's a 1.6 litre diesel, 90HP with 16 valves. If I'd taken advice (I'm a mechanic), I'd have avoided it like the plague but it has been the best car I have ever owned. 70MPG and runs like clockwork. I knew I was buying an oldish car, but I took the risk and would never have put the blame on the guy who sold it to me. He changed the distribution belt, did the brakes and parallelism and a new set of tyres as well as 4 other wheels. Some you win and some you lose and this was a massive win.

Some good ones! The radiator is really trying, they've seen an opportunity to take the warranty company for a ride; I'm not surprised it was denied, it would make your life easier if they had said the price was unrealistic to the customer rather than just "denied" however. 100% the guy is trying to get a few extra quid in his pocket. "Well known fault on these cars" is well known in the enthusiast group, unless a dealer is trading those day to day - they will never have heard of the issue; it's like the BMW E46s are "well known" for having weak cooling systems, if you ask most people why.. they won't have a scoobydoo!

I have had a few business over the years, and I have learned one thing.. don't get involved with dealing with the general public! I have actually been a car trader in the past, for a while in the UK in the 1990's. So I very much understand what you are going through. You must have the patience of a saint. It seems to me that it's easy enough to expect a customer to check and confirm satisfactory operation of things like doors, windows, air-conditioning at the point of collection and confirm that these items are fully functioning. I do this myself when I buy a car, simply because I want to know if everything works, and perhaps give me some leverage for a discount if some minor issues are present. Which in the case of a car over 10 years old there is literally always something. Buyers have to be realistic, there are manufacturers approved used car programs for someone who expects a used car to be like new, but expecting a car that's cheap and perfect is unrealistic. By the way, when I was a car trader I was a bit like you in that I was soft on warranty claims when the customer was being genuine. You clearly value good customer service and this means that your kindness will be abused on occasion, only you can decide if that's an expense your business can afford to absorb.

If you are now outside of the first 30 days, the seller has one opportunity only to repair or replace the faulty car. You will not be able to ask for rejection at this stage. This does not apply to cars purchased before 1 October 2015. The Sale of Goods Act allows the seller to either repair or replace the car within a reasonable period of time without causing significant inconvenience. If you are complaining about a fault within the first six months of purchase, it is presumed this fault was there at the time of purchase. The seller will need to prove that this fault was not there at point of sale. If you are complaining about a fault outside of the first six months, you will need to prove that fault was there at point of sale. If the seller is unable to repair the fault because the same fault persists or a new inherent fault has developed, or the replacement car has an inherent fault, then you can ask for your money back or a price reduction (partial refund) if you wish to keep the car. Remember, for rejection outside of the first 30 days, the seller is entitled to deduct the mileage you have added onto the car

The £600 was just trying it on. However, if I was presented with option 3, I don't think that's desperately unfair on either party. There might not be a convenient time slot available at the chosen garage. Also many garages these days quote you for a 2 hour job, you book the car in at a given time, yet they want the car for a whole day, which isn't always convenient. Even taking into acoount a d.i.y. job will take longer, it might just be more convenient to do it yourself. A few quid on the side for your time and tools isn't too unreasonsble. But £600?? already been mentioned but he is taking that corsa to a mates garage to see what they can milk it for, I wouldnt bother with them, you have given them reasonable options that fit the terms of the warrenty. I duno how warrenty wise work but I doubt "gime the money and ill do it myself" falls under the terms for very obvious reasons. I think my cars warenty was with autoguard... or something, I dont remember I didnt bother renewing it. but it came with a very clear pdf of what was and was not covered, and made very clear the only way a claim would go through was to use authorised garages or my own garage but with a very clear set of quotes that justified the cost before work, oh and proof of diagnostic aswell. (basicaly made it so fiddley to go to my own mechanic I would have had to use halfords... which I ofcourse would rarther avoid)

It was 2 years old when I got rid but I monitored the history and it failed its first MOT because of that headlight beam. I wouldn't want to have paid for that. I can now see why folk lease a brand new small car for say £170 a month, against paying £3500 for a 13 yr old car that costs them a further say £1000 -£1500 in repairs over 3 yrs which they then sell for £500 privately or on ebay etc,at the end of the 3 yrs, even tho it works out a bit better buying a 13 yr old car, the leased car will rarely break down and its is fully warranted for 3 yrs.. remember £3000 to £4000 cash for an old car is a lot of savings for many people, maybe they save up over a period of 2 yrs.

I bought an audi a3. The next day some trim work fell off, I took it to an audi main dealer for a vehicle check £35.00 , it wasn't good the car needed a new clutch and other work also, they fixed the trim foc, so I returned the car and got my money back, I had lost all confidence in the dealer I bought the the car off.

I'm afraid if you take ANY used car from a dealer to main dealer you would lose confidence. You are literally asking them to find potential problems. If you drove the car and the clutch did not smell, slip or hard to engage gears it was alright. Could it be replaced a say 5 years old and 50k, sure it could but does not mean its faulty just used.

Just have a go at 30 days mate, particularly under 5k,if you are still selling them OK then it will obviate a lot of trouble, I'd have thought the warranty company wouldn't pay out direct to the customer as he's not a vat Garage, tbh I'd have done the job myself and get paid 200 quid, maybe open another vat reg company to do the work and bill WW? Problem is with the i20 is you've given a 3 mths warranty and people want everything covered for that, if it was 400 under auto trader I'd have said 30 days engine and box I know it might not stand up in law but the guys not going to take you to court, if anybody comes back to me tbh I'll try to fix it (never really fail) myself, just for good relations, but yeah it's all a nightmare, on that corsa I'd have said yeah you've had it a bit, I'll do the job for halves, I'd charge top retail for rad, plus coolant so you'd be in the clear. Just try 30 days tho bud engine and box, it'll wipe away loads of the bits and bobs claims.

I had a Corsa E on an 18 plate. Full service history, always looked after. It was 5 years old and only done 50k + mileage. Heard a rattling at idle, thought it might be timing chain. My mechanic said it was the timing chain guide rails. So to fix it, would have cost £900. He also told me that he’d had a Mokka turbo in like mine, which was even worse than mine. I don’t think a 5 year old car with proper maintenance should have that kinda issue. Mechanic said that Vauxhall seemed to have fixed certain issues, but created new ones.

Makes me laugh watching people at junctions or traffic lights on a slight incline - instead of using the handbrake they sit there with the vehicle rocking backwards and forwards as they slip the clutch. These are the very same people who then moan like hell because the clutches aren't lasting long and have to have the additional cost of a flywheel reface, (or new flywheel), because its been fried to hell by clutch slip!. Also have a story about a friend who had a body shop years back - he lent a customer a Nissan Micra courtesy car and an annoyed member of the public rang him to say his courtesy car was witnessed doing handbrake turns etc in a carpark. He then arranged for the return of said courtesy car and gave the customer his car back, (which by that stage was stripped down in pieces) and told him to go away in no uncertain terms!.

The thing is a few years ago a 13 year old car was banger territory and therefore they were priced cheaply to clear. These days traders are commanding top prices for 13 year old cars so it's quite rightly the customer expects it to be fully working as intended. Hate it when traders say "well it's a 13 year old car" pity they don't have that attitude when they are taking the money off you for a 13 year old car.
