I am very glad to see that someone who is not from the black metal world understands the point itself! I love the fact that you do not watch music by its production and technique but by the atmosphere and emotion and that is the whole point of black metal,to be dark and cold. This whole album by Dark Thron was created for listening in the middle of a snow-covered forest. For more badass black metal songs I recommend Odium-Winterpath Urgehal-Goatcraft Torment Sargeist-Satanic Black Devotion Archgoat-Nuns, Cunts & Darkness Marduk-Viktoria Dissection-Night's Blood

This type of black metal is all about atmosphere. it's a soundscape. it's a music track to a movie in your head. if you have never been in a Norwegian forest (other location would do too i guess, if it's far enough up north to have the 'real' winter) during winter in a snow storm ... it's hard to understand. so dark, so cold, so pure. i've had the experience. i've been in a Norwegian 'skog' (forest) at night and see half a meter of snow fall during 2 hours. i've heard the howling winds. it leaves an impression on you. this music is the soundtrack to that. and it has the vampire theme on top.

I really enjoy this channel. You guys really go deep into the music and really appreciate the work that goes into it. This black metal stuff is really really interesting stuff. I grew up listening to it. I grew up in the inner city of Los Angeles and there something extremely grim about it. There’s a yearning for getting in touch with nature and your inner beast. It is the most primal genre and it’s meant to make you feel connected to the earth and to the olden gods of yesteryear. Cheers my man, may you prosper.

I do like Darkthrone a lot, and A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Under a Funeral Moon and Transilvanian Hunger are bona fide black metal classics. But for me, I get more enjoyment out of their stuff when they started to incorporate more crust punk, NWOBHM and death metal elements into their music. From Sardonic Wrath onwards it kind of feels like Fenriz and Noctruno just said "screw it". And to me that's a good thing, they don't take it uber seriously so we can get stuff like Viking Metal Punks or Valkyrie, as well as stuff like Burial Bliss or Duke of Gloat. They became a band (well, duo) who just create whatever they want for the pure enjoyment and for that I love them.

That is the thing, they intentionally pushed the drums into the background just so this album gets this ambiance and melancholy boost. Also, the repetition aspect is essential to Black Metal. By repetition and simple structures, you achieve that hypnotic atmosphere, where it feels like you're one with the song and it never ends, and when it does, you feel like waking up from a dream. Listening to this song, at night, with not a single ounce of light present in the room and eyes closed is just magical. I once fell asleep doing the stuff I said above and got myself into a dream-like state, seeing things but nothing at the same time (I couldn't describe that "dream" for my life) while this song was playing in the background. It was a weird mix of a dream that I can't describe and reality, almost as if I was dreaming but hearing "reality" perfectly.

When I was a kid it assured me that I wasn't the only one who felt like this. Something a bit more technical that can bring me to tears at times is the song Absission by Deathspell Omega. I"m less of a Darkthrone fan but I still have several of their albums (nothing later than Panzerfaust). I'd like to see you revisit Emperor: "With Strength I Burn" has the feeling but it also has the clarity. For something more in the Darkthrone vein, but also with clarity that allows you to take in the nuances of the percussions, I'll throw out "City Light" by Addaura.

Soulside Journey is a death metal album... which got them signed.... so hats off for them dropping A Blaze In The Northern Sky which was written with the intention of being more black metal and is #1 in the unholy trinity. the bass player quite as he was disinterested in this direction. Under a Funeral Moon for me is the first "real" pure black metal album they did, #2 in the unholy trinity Transylvanian Hunger is #3 in the unholy trinity and i do not listen to them past this point. Varg wrote half the lyrics on the album. you should react to “Ravishing Grimness” or any song from that album, but especially the title track and the claws of time. they two of Darkthrone’s best “true cold” songs. the reverb and production on that album is perfect🔥 little known and talked about fact: the drum beat and cold lofi atmosphere from this style of metal was inspired by the techno music clubs in Norway that these guys went to in the early 90s/late 80s. they felt inspired by that music and wanted to create metal music that had the same droning feeling and atmosphere.

This album and song came out in 1994, right at the heart of the 2nd wave of black metal. They were part of that Norwegian scene that had all kinds of crazy church burnings and shit like that. This was one of those types of albums that they wrote with the intention of being hypnotic. The band Burzum would also amplify those qualities as well on some of their albums. The guy on the cover of the album is Fenriz. A legend in the scene. He's known for his philosophy of music being all about simplicity -- with the term he uses being "primitive" to describe his tastes. He's a really funny and down to earth dude if you ever watch interviews with him.

@@TheAdventuresofTNT check out Demogoroth Satanum, an all black south african black metal band! similar stories from the navaho community and "metal from the dirt". people from all over the world deal with isolation, loneliness, despair, and need something over than rap or dance music, etc.

Transylvanian Hunger aka The Wrist Destroyer. Tremelo picking all the way! I get exhausted just listening to it. Also, can i request Rust by Darkthrone? I've never seen anybody react to it. It very simple and groovy and very athmosperic.

This tune is a paen to Mayhem's late vocalist "Dead" who was wearing an "I love Transyvania" t shirt when he shot himself. The album cover is a homage to the live Mayhem album featuring Dead "Live In Leipzig."

I had the same reaction the first time I heard a black metal riff like that one...it was from a local band in my hometown I believe. It wasn't this song but a very similar one. I was like WTF is that!

If you are looking for a Black Metal album which can be called classic Black Metal, "Transylvanian Hunger" is that album. This albums sets a standard for dark sound, dark atmosphere, quality (poor of course), dark cover etc. I do not like Darkthrone too much because of their late stuff, but this one and "Total Death" are good. Try listening to old Kataklysm, anything from the album "Sorcery" or "The Orb of Uncreation" if you want to feel another type of darkness.

Do "Blood stains the circle" by Gorgoroth, it's got, in my opinion, one of the best Black Metal Riffs !😈

It's really kind of similar to ambient or shoegaze. In that it's very hazy and thick and emotive. But definitely conveying some dark emotions. Trance-like. The drums are mixed low on purpose to create the wall of sound.
