Aang's Abilities (Avatar)

As a reincarnation of the entity known as the Avatar, Aang possessed the power to bend all four elements, making him the most powerful bender of his time. Though Avatar Roku said mastering the elements could take many years, Aang was able to learn all four with considerable skill in a year, though technically he did not completely master all four as stated by Zuko and Toph. As a result of his unconventional training, Aang never demonstrated most of the special subsets of the bending arts. However, he did display the abilities of lightning redirection and seismic sense, making him the first Avatar known to have learned these abilities. Most Avatars were not told of their status until they were sixteen years of age, but Aang had become a fully realized Avatar while he was still only biologically twelve years old. Thus, he became the youngest known Avatar to do so. As he was chronologically 112 years old, Aang also has the distinction of taking the longest to achieve this status.

@@marshmallowvampire8503 it was a new ability seperate from the other elements given to him by the lion turtle, called energybending. Not bloodbending as that essentially made a blood clot in the area of the brain that accesses your Chi for each element. The area of the brain for airbending Chi mustve been in a different place in the brain than the other elements, being why when korra's other elements were taken away she was able to airbend. With energybending, it completely strips that ability away, in essence, it's a lot like when in wan's time, the lion turtles would take their elements back once the citizens returned to their lion turtle cities. "In the time before the Avatar, we bent not the elements, but the energy within ourselves." -Lion Turtle This quote insinuates that he must be even older than the elemental lion turtles. As the ay-ay spirit in Korra has stated that there are dozens of lion turtles, just imagine what other types of amazing abilities could be made possible with future avatars!

He had an advantage over 95% of the people he fought...noone had seen an airbender in over 100 years and only people like Bumi and Guru Pahtik know about thier elusive/defensive fighting style.

Theory: Since aang was thought to be killed, fire nation knew that the next avatar would be a waterbender from the southern tribe that is why they captured all of waterbenders(except katara). But when they realised the avatar was still alive sozin's descendants dedicated their lives to find an airbender.

I would say yes, point you have to know your body for that comma know exactly where to hit you have to hit hard enough or you use your taming skills to do that in that respect you could see it as a special skill or superpower because I am myself sure not everyone can do that, maybe your doctor who also studied martial arts might be superior to them

This is a little late, but thank you for going through all of the feats that Aang has. His moments during the blue spirit, the awakening, and the beach episode get overlooked by some of his other feats and you brought them front and center. Great stuff, you earned a new subscriber

I love how Aang learned the most dangerous abalities I mean by that he learned lighting redirect which iroh said if you don’t separate the energy in your stomach you die and with energybending the lion turtle said if you don’t have a full soul you die this dude learned some hardcore stuff for a 13 year old. He also was combined with the ocean spirit in season 1 episode 20 which Lok said is more than dangerous and do so without struggle.

Sorry to rant, 😋😋but season 2 didn't need to do that to show how powerful she is when she could just had classic energy bending, metal bending, and maybe combustion/blood bending. But that's okay.😊😊 It was visually impressive.

He was the youngest to be a fully realised Avatar: W+E+F+A at age 12 + spirituality at same age. Korra had W+E+F at age 4, A at age 16 and spirituality at age 17/18ish. So Aang was the youngest Avatar ever to be fully realised.

He probably had a lot of difficulty bending metal. Earth is the natural opposite to air, so an even more specialized version could have been extremely difficult. Maybe even impossible. He could have just decided it wasn't worth the time, considering Toph was around. Or, the creators wanted to give Korra something but didn't think much of the implications.
