PLEASE READ:
I firstly apologize that this is the first video of the new year you had to see from me, but I had too many things to say about this matter. Although Logan has taken the video down at the time of me writing this, I believe it's not an excuse to forgive what he did. He didn't take the video down because he "learned his lesson", he took it down as damage control for the amount of backlash he was receiving.
Again, this video is not just towards Logan, but to anybody who plans to visit any country/culture they are unfamiliar with. It's not difficult to educate yourself to better understand what you are about to set your foot into. And if you're someone with a lot of influence, it's especially important that you understand this. Don't spread the disrespect of another person, another culture and another country. Keep learning, stay respectful and be a good role model.
Suicide is never the answer, and is a topic that should be handled with extreme care. Please seek help if you ever have such thoughts.
I honestly don't care if you continue to support Logan after this controversy. But just know that I will never support anyone who has the guts to show such disrespect to any person or culture with an uneducated mindset.
Regular content will be back very soon. Thanks again everyone.
Love, Joey

The worst thing was watching him attempt to conceal his glee through the smiles and excitement that echoed throughout the video, with lines such as "This is a first for me." and "This is a top 5 moment". He turned the tragic situation of someone very recently taking their own life and spun it into an "experience", that he didn't hesitate to exploit for his own personal gain. It's very depressing viewing.

Man, I feel this. Over the years, I've seen a ton of travel vlogs that have people climbing around on, sitting down on, and running and jumping on the Holocaust memorial in Berlin. To me, that is one of the most disrespectful things a person could possibly do; those rocks represent hundreds of thousands of innocent people who were murdered horribly. Germans take this history, and the inherited guilt that comes with it, very seriously. It's personal to us, and we want to keep the memory of these crimes alive to keep history from ever repeating itself. The memorial is a solemn and sad place, not some jungle gym for uneducated tourists to climb around on and make asses of themselves. It's truly unbelievable to me how some people seem completely unable to do even the tiniest amount of research before visiting a place, just assuming that they can do whatever they want.

***Something Joey didn’t mention/I haven’t seen it in the comments about this*** I am a psychology major, and we learned about a phenomenon. It has a crude name, but it’s most commonly known as “copycat suicide”. When suicide is shown in popular social media (whether a TV show like “13 Reasons Why” or Logan’s vlog), it actually shows signs of triggering an influx of suicides. It’s extremely insensitive of him to post that for a plethora of reasons, but he could’ve possibly triggered his viewers too.

Stephanie G. Honest question. Would copycat suicide can/would/ever be taken as mocking one's suicide or use someone's suicide to their own benefit only?
@CreativeGirlisMe
@CreativeGirlisMe 6 жыл бұрын
No, I wouldn't say that. I'll use the show "13 Reasons Why" as an example. In the series, they show the main character (the one who sadly committed suicide) planning and conducting the whole process of her suicide. People already suffering with depression, suicidal thoughts, etc. would see this and possibly take their own life in the same manner. Copycat is just a popularized "term" for this phenomenon, but others refer to it as a "contagion" too... I don't know; both seem like sort of wrong ways to present it. There are actually reports out there of real life people who had taken their life and left tapes (like the main character in the show did) for people. It's the popularization of things like "13 Reasons Why" or Logan Paul's video that could be triggering and encourage someone who has had thoughts of taking their own life to actually carry through and do it.

Kayleigh Griva imagine this: a group of tourists visit a circus and they came across a person who was abused and felt depressed, sad and alone. He tried begging for help but never came. The group of tourists just proceeded to snap pictures at the person and starts laughing at the person making the person even more alone than ever. The tourists are literally Logan Paul in the Aokigahara Forest video.

It was my 10 year old daughter who showed me this. She doesn't watch Logan Paul, but her friend loves him and sent her the video. She came running into my room with this look of both horror and anger saying " How do you get a video off youtube?" I was confused and she showed me even though she didn't have to, cause it was trending, but I saw it and the amount of anger and hate I felt towards this man just risen to a new level. She asked me is it real and if that man was okay and why he was laughing. In our family mental illness is prominant I have Bipolar Disorder and the last strong depressive suicidal actions i've happened in early January of 2015 so seeing this brought out many other emotions. My daughter unfortunately has to deal with the reality of this. Her grandfather my step-dad suffers from a severe form of bipolar disorder and when he is up and great he's the best person, but this time it was bad and he tried to kill himself just last week on klonopin ( which is a benzo) this video was beyond horrific for her she gave me the question of " Is this how it is. Is this how you feel. Why would he do this and post this. I don't understand. Tell me why?" The only answer I had for her was " What this man did does not reflect all humans. What he did was horrible. This place is a place where people go when they lose their battle and is their last time on earth. What he did was disrespect this place of sadness he also didn't do the right thing by leaving and saying " I can't do this." This man does not reflect others and I can assure you it won't affect me and your grandpa doesn't even know how to use a remote. Just stay away from him and if your friend decides that she can forgive this than i'll talk to her parents or to her whichever. You are both too young to experience and see these things. I want you to know I love you and i'm not going anywhere and to pray or bless this man who lost his battle that he is resting and pray for his family who is sad. But, don't let this hurt you. You did good coming to me. I love you." That's all I could say. Even when she is on the kids platform or talking to her friends that doesn't mean links can't be shown. This man is truly disgusting and needs to go away and reflect on all he's done and the young minds he is showing this stuff too. People who defend him. I know you are blinded by your love for your idol, but you must see that you don't do this. You don't film a dead body and you don't continue on filming. He may have shown shock, but that didn't stop him from filming. That to me shows a lot about him. It's about the view count not the content and he deserves a downfall. If you don't agree well... I don't apologize and you can continue living in your denial world. But, the rest of us will not tolerate it.

The first time I visited Tokyo, when I was 5, I saw a girl fall from a window and kill herself right before my eyes. Seeing something that tragic has always made anything in relation to suicide something that effects me on an extremely personal level. My father grew up in Japan, and his best friend in high school also ended her own life suddenly when she was only 18. I have also lost two family members to it. Suicide is absolutely nothing to take lightly, and I find Logan Paul both repulsive and disgusting. That person felt as though they had no other option than to end their own life. The fact that he made it a cheap ploy to get views enrages me on a whole other level.
@Cortanasboyfriend

Sakura Stardust biased view point. I've seen suicide first hand too and I still employ dark sarcastic humor. Felt sorry for the person, and I've dealt with suicide and depression personally. I just take an unbiased amoral standpoint
@Snakez29
@Snakez29 6 жыл бұрын
"dark humor" is different from using a dead body in a thumbnail on a youtube video and making jokes about it only minutes after. Also, the whole point is that his actions were unethical, you can't take an amoral standpoint on a moral issue and then call someone biased. And lastly, if this is bias against Logan's actions, what would be bias FOR Logan's actions/is bias invalid? Morals are literally a social code of conduct, if someone doesn't abide by them, maybe that's their prerogative and their right as a human being, but they should expect to get shit for it. If I were Logan (and if Logan actually had 2 brain cells to spare) I would have at least thought about the response I'd get for it and act accordingly; however you want to put it, Logan is absolutely retarded.
@Snakez29
@Snakez29 6 жыл бұрын
It certainly is biased, but my point is that you can't take the social constructs out of it. Emotions are a basic part of human nature. Morals exist because as humans we can experience these emotions on both an individual basis and a group basis, ex. the personal thoughts going through one's head after a family member dies versus the Boston Strong movement and similar ones (that specifically comes to mind because I'm from the Boston area, there's many more like it), and most humans understand that there are certain ways to act to avoid tampering with other people's emotions. Morals literally exist because we know that, if somebody shows a dead guy on youtube, put mildly it will hurt someone's feelings, and we wouldn't want our feelings hurt in the same way. To be honest I'm not mad about showing the dead body on youtube, it's mainly about the fact that it was used in his thumbnail and it was presumably not even an hour after he saw the dead body that he started making jokes about it. That said, I still do think that showing the body on youtube was disrespectful to that person and their family. These are just my thoughts, however, and therefore still subjective and biased. Also, side note, I respect the fact that we could have a civilized debate about this instead of just going back and forth saying dumb shit, doesn't happen a lot on youtube.
@Cortanasboyfriend
@Cortanasboyfriend 6 жыл бұрын
Snakez29 True, I'm glad about that too. Earlier today I was having a debate with myself about taking the social constructs out of things and how everything could be potentially subjective, and not have any order and just be nothing but chaos and uncertainty. Then I reminded myself about how us humans have been able to bring order and balance to alot of things through our subjectiveness as well as through objective means too. We find comfort in familiarity and order and we keep it that way so things don't get out of hand. I just like to take views that push the envelope sometimes lol. You're right on this one, plus emotions stem from chemical reactions in the brain, morals and ethics stem from those emotions and the logic we have formed through the years, so while something may be subjective it doesn't necessarily make it wrong. :)
@Snakez29
@Snakez29 6 жыл бұрын
I appreciate you for that lmao that's an interesting viewpoint to have. If he hadn't joked about it after I would probably have been less biased myself, it just really gets to me. I'm glad we could have this conversation, really made me think about shit

Suicide is a real problem, particularly in Japan. Anyone who knows someone who died in that way understands why this is wrong, but you don’t have to have known someone personally who died that way in order to understand why you don’t exploit the death of an individual for likes and views. I will never forgive Logan Paul for this, no matter how many years pass by, I recognize he is a mentally unstable individual, but he went too far for me personally to ever forgive him.

Anyone who has been to Aokigahara knows there are signs everywhere IN ENGLISH that say you are NOT to leave the path and that access is restricted. You SAW him step over the barrier rope and he even said, "We're leaving the path now.." I could understand that bcuz he and his mates are immature that they may have initially thought that entering the forest is cool - like visiting a haunted house or something, as I know from experience that people are skeptical as to whether people actually do go to the forest to commit suicide (thinking that maybe it's a marketing ploy to get tourists to visit the area), but it comes back to this: He filmed, and even did close ups, of a human being who was so desperately unhappy that he decided to commit suicide. Then he and his friends laughed about it. TO ALL THOSE WHO FOLLOW OR DEFEND LOGAN, HIS BROTHER AND FRIENDS: GET THE POINT - LOGAN DID NOT HAVE TO UPLOAD THE FOOTAGE, PERIOD. And it wasn't just HIS reaction that made me sick, but THE WHOLE GROUP SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES!!! Trivialising human suffering for financial gain and/or fame is...quite honestly all I can think of to describe it is as SCUM. And the fact that the majority of his audience are kids...that just puts his disgraceful disregard for the impact of his actions at a low reserved only for the worst of our society!! KZfaq needs to BAN both of the PAULs AND their two friends shown in the video. And Logan needs to take a bloody good hard look at himself and hopefully decide he's going to grow up and not act like a POS for the 15Mil kids who follow him, bcuz at the end of the day he's a role model, and he needs to take responsibility for his actions. If he was REALLY SORRY he would remove his CHANNEL, not just the video (which has subsequently been re-posted by others). His parents must be so very, very, very disappointed in him. I don't know how anyone could show their face after doing something like this - it's unbelievable.

J Lastname I bet the pauler’s parents are too busy defending Logan right now and talking smack about everyone that’s against them right now. And he just did a movie with KZfaq Red so I doubt they gonna do anything. Even with the amount of annoyance he did on set, the thinning directors still dealt with it bc Logan knew we was the star of the movie and that they wouldn’t fire him. It’s just the amount of times he’s taken advantage of situations is so sickening, he knowingly goes overboard bc he does it for the views. Like dude you got your American dream, calm down and start moving on and evolve from the vlog life.

I'm one of the few who never got to see the video, due to the fact that he took it down after receiving backlash. Looking at it from an objective standpoint, he was either completely oblivious to the consequences of his actions or he deliberately did that to gain attention. Some KZfaqrs are actually happy that he did that, just so they can make a video, making a profit off of speaking about something trending. What he did was very unintelligent on his part and it's very ignorant for his cult that's trying to defend him on his actions, calling US the "hAtErS" while in reality, he messed up big time, and he needs to own up for his actions.

My little sister commited suicide not in the suicide forest but she jumping off our apartment building into the road below it happened when I was young but it traumatised me. She was epileptic and couldn't take the pain anymore. She was my little sister and I failed to protect her... I failed her. Everyday it eats away at me. It's not hard to realise you need to use respect. We were both adopted into japanese families by loving parents. We grew up in Japan. And when she passed people were respectful. To see him do that made me sick. That was messed up. Suicide is not some thing you use to get attention. When Kazune died I wanted nothing more but to disappear. I'm not asking for pity I'm not asking for comfort. I'm asking for sick freaks like him to stay out of our country... I may not have japanese blood but i was raised there! We lived there we loved the country! Japan saved me from my abusive birth parents. I'm proud to have been raised there and to be considered one of them. So get out of our country before I kick you out.

Years later this fires me up still for two reasons: 1) someone edited that vlog and thought, “this is a good idea”. Worse, they used it as the thumbnail knowing it would get more views. They intentionally left in the footage thinking that it was not just a good idea but probably the best part of the video because of a) the “experience” of it and b) the fact that it was bringing in views. 2) this man went into a country that I respect and have taken the time to learn about and have wholeheartedly fallen in love with, and threw giant plush pokeballs at people in the streets. That’s not the worst of it, but that’s always what comes to mind. Even in your own country, would you do that? How does one think that’s okay? How is someone okay with being remembered for something like that? What makes your mind so perverse that you think it’s okay to so disrespectfully film someone who’s just passed away? How does the loss of life, the literal presentation of death, fill you with any kind of joy? How does it not scare you, how are you not sad? How do you, not even for a moment, go quiet with shame, respect, and sadness? Sorry to go off two years late but this is a topic that’s still brought up today and will _never_ be acceptable

Bone2BeWild Nah,I didn't even know that guy Logan before. Now I'm just shocked by the crazy number of subscribers/viewers to his videos. That makes me even more curious about the content in his channel..

Are you serious? How disrespectful can you be? People like him make it hard for nice people to travel because they get lumped into groups like him.

hey man while you think this isn't a good video to start out 2018, i think it's a wonderful one. you're putting a strong message of respect out there. one so strong that i can only hope that it's one that impacts people and that they follow this strong example your setting. the way your voice wavers makes this video so emotional, so genuine, and i think it's one of the best ones talking about this situation as a whole, even talking about the other videos he's put out about japan. you've always been one of the few youtubers i look up to and have an insane amount of respect for and this just cements my admiration and support for you. thank you for being strong and speaking about this topic. i appreciate it. not many people take things with the level of seriousness and with as critical of an eye as you do and it needed to be presented this way, with all of the facts laid out. so a job well done, joey. i'm proud.

Wouldn't be surprised. They're all saying he did nothing wrong and he has no reason to apologize. His fan base is full of twelve year olds.
