@@BooksToAshes it's always been like that. When I used to write 14ish years ago, the only thing that got major attention was smutty fanfics. Which was fine because I loved writing those too, but still it felt like a real bummer that the actually creative content never got any traction. And that was across the board, there were very rarely any strictly original stories on the leader boards.

I also doubt that they pay their own hotelroom, since all the athletes stay at the same hotel and there needs to be security to keep them seperate from the fans. In my eyes let the boys love each other and don't write an essay about why they don't. The entire plotline is intertwined with their relationship. I don't think there would be this much focus on their intimate relationship if it was just a regular friendship type deal. I mean if we compare it to Free iwatobi swim club, everyone ships the characters together even if there is very little actual intimate relations shared. They share beds but that is because they are in high school and therefore 4 boys in one room makes sense. But in reality they are all just good friends that swim together and they are all fairly young and no romantic interests are discussed. Back to Yuri on ice, older dudes that spend every waking moment with each other even when they are not training. Exchanging rings, sharing beds for no reason except that they want to, the kiss which is absolutely a kiss why else would Viktor say " this was the only thing I knew would suprise you as much as you surprised me". If it was a hug that wouldn't really surprise anyone since they are already quite intimate with each other and Yuri even hugs every other competitior when Viktor's not there. Hugs aren't that special, kisses are though. I'm not into arguing about anime boys, but there is an entire genre of anime about pretty boys loving other pretty boys....
