This song got me through Afghanistan, 12-13. I'd put this on repeat, flip a tractor tire 20 times one way, do 20 pushups, 20 situps on the tire, push it back. Do it for an hour. crazy ex back home faking a pregnancy, 7000 miles away, my previous best friend was robbing me blind as I rented him my house. My world, the world I was in, was just falling apart. I just blasted this song through my headphones and flipped the tire.

It gave me chills when I was 20. It still gives chills at 40.

As someone who was in their teens when the Don Henley version came out, I appreciate the way The Ataris not only gave the song a contemporary 2000s sound but also made the lyrics more contemporary by changing "Deadhead sticker" to "Black Flag sticker".

Love how this one is pop-punk which takes me back to my own time growing up (early-90s to mid-2000s.) I love both versions.
