She is so correct about talent. It attacts sabotage, back-stabbing, envy, jealousy... it also devours your life.

Her greatness is the contradiction of being “larger than life” while simultaneously being completely honest and “down to earth”. Complete honesty is a good life lesson.

The last great raconteur of Broadway. Who on Earth has these great stories, and is so quick, engaging, and funny? Even later on at age 88 on this show she was hysterical.

I absolutely Love this woman. Real talent invites everyone to the table look at Elaine. Look at Judy. Everyone has an opinion they have to give pronouncements about it. The less talented feel threatened. Those with real talent enjoy and celebrate others talent. Elaine was Judy’s biggest fan. “ Christine Ebbersol, Meryl Streep” that’s coffee”. When you have talent it’s almost your job to handout approval to encourage those on thecway of finding out how good they can become, lift those around you up. It’s your choice but you’ll never regret it, it helps you sleep at night. Doing the right thing feeds the soul. Helping those around you to see the other side shows there’s room for everyone , whatever stage you are at , improve and rise to the occasion for which your . “ life doesn’t get easier it gets different. Elaine is a giant person with a kalidascope of views always growing. My favorite moment at the Emmys when she won for third rock made the ultimate joke in her comedy show nominational category” she lists her fellow nominees and says “ I’m so thrilled, happy ( I’m paraphrasing ) that they did not win and I did. Her send up to the absurd idea of making artist compete in a category , comparing apples to oranges in a field where what everyone else thinks determines your success. Elaine had the courage to stop drinking to find out for sure if her talent came to her on her own rather than having a crutch to remove the angst associated with showing that talent. Courageous lady who absolutely by the last fourth of her life to celebrate Elaine. Honest , funny, tells on herself in such quick wit , encourages me to trust my own instincts. If I’m wrong I say so , others may disagree but at least I lived out my own decision. It’s when you attempt to please the masses a diluted version of yourself comes out. You can’t be satisfied because others don’t get the privilege of seeing your own talent. We were lucky enough to have a sober Elaine for several years and the kick she must have gotten I know for her had to be a life long journey richly deserved. Her family in Detroit even after her parents and sisters had just passed welcomed her with open arms which had to be moving beyond words. The love she felt had to be extremely moving during a period where her vitality had to be waning. The one thing that never wanes is the heart. In one of her last interview pieces for the New York post you tube productions attempting to show how tough it became to continue living and performing at the hotel Carlyle battling the cancer she kept to herself while others felt it was the struggle of being in her late 80 ‘s muses from Sondheims song from sound of music “ nothing comes from nothing , nothing ever could “ muses if after we pass there may be nothing, if it is we won’t know about it but highly doubts it, saying , I highly doubt it, all of us do not start with the same hand in life, Somebody has to play fair with us at the end , so many ( Sharon Tate comes to mind) getting a raw deal. It’s almost like she want there to be a god for those that got a raw deal even more for them than for herself. That beautiful sentiment brought tears to my eyes . I’ve always felt I’ll go through what I have to but my loved ones and those I haven’t met like Sharon Tate I want there to be a god for them . I want there to be a god for all of us. Life isn’t easy and if we can get out of our own way that’s half the battle. My mother once mused “ we are here on earth to remove the obstacles that keep ourselves from loving everyone , even Hitler since we ate all made in gods image. A sin against our fellow man is a sin against ourselves. I don’t have any answers nut so far in my 61 years I learn about life every day and the greatest compliment anyone can give me is that I believed in their own ability to figure out what’s best for them. One rule about a big decision and a guide I used ( forgot where I heard this - I wasn’t inspired enough to come up with this on my own - is - am I making this decision based on loving myself or am I making this decision from or out of fear and choosing something that minimizes the negative consequences. We can’t be dreamers every step of the way, work must be under the hood before such big devious are attempted but if you follow your particular roadmap designed just for your journey then you know regardless of how it turns out . Hooray Elaine !

Elaine Stritch is not her name. I came up with that name when I wrote a song that I gave to a singer before she was well known. Without the rights to the song, they took the name I created and my song, and called it their own.

A wise man once said, "novelty is not an artistic value." The trend-seeking emphasis in New York is highly destructive to art.

What a foolish comment. If you were a seasoned hairdresser, you’d consider her age and that the hair might be thinning in places and that she may have had perfect hair leaving the salon, but hours later it has been messed up and gone flat in parts. Eliane doesn’t strike me as a woman who would care about her hair, nor would she care for what anybody with “twerkin” in their username would think about her damn hair.

She won FIVE Tony Awards! 🤯 I guess you’ve never seen her show ‘At Liberty’? I’m guessing you’ve never been floored by her rendition of ‘Ladies Who Lunch’? Eliane is an elderly woman here, having won multiple awards and accolades, had people like Noel Coward write roles for her and at this point in her successful life - paid her dues. She doesn’t seem conceited to me, just confident and direct - with no time to waste on surface chatter. She is very intense, I’m not even sure I’m a fan of that particular type of energy, but to call her conceited just misses her spirit entirely. This is ‘Theater Talk’ and they take their beloved industry and craft very seriously.

I hope some day you can get to a point where you don't have to shrink to feel accepted. There is a difference between healthy self-confidence and arrogance, it's a shame you can't see Elaine for who she was.
