Not the full song and wrong drummer. The original drummer Dave Lombardo is the best. The band admits they play the song slower because the other drummers can’t play it. Dave has been in the group out of the group and in. The other band members are jealous because he’s often cited as one 9f the best drummers of all time but they don’t get that recognition for guitar, bass vocals et cetera

Tom Araya's voice is one of the most unique in metal and Slayer were one of the most influential, vicious, powerful bands in all metal history, and one of my absolute favorites. The studio rendition of "Angel of Death" (from the same album this song is on) has one of the most bloodcurdling, inhuman shrieks you'll ever hear on it. I won't tell you when it is, but you'll know it when you hear it, trust me.

I've heard that the shriek was improvised out of joking frustration with a producer or sound engineer.

@@oleblue73 Close; Araya himself has commented on how Rick Rubin wanted him to add something to that intro, and as he was messing around with different things, that scream just came out of nowhere. Rubin freaked out and said "Yeah, do that again!!!" and he couldn't! It was just one of those mad, inspired moments that came and went out of nowhere, the way he told it.

They didn't play the full song 'Raining blood'... This concert, they ended w/ Tom Araya saying, "...now I shall reign in blood!" And then Slayer went straight into the opening of the next song, 'Black magic' (which u heard the intro to)... Slayer would shred through their live set w/ few breaks between songs. This was filmed before guitarist Kerry King shaved his head bald in 1994 (he has hair here 😂) Slayer were teenagers when they formed the band in 1981 in a garage w/ Kerry King (guitar), Jeff Hanneman (guitar) and Dave Lombardo (drums)... Tom Araya (bass & vocals) fronted the band. They played heavy metal covers at first... of British metal bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden... The band started playing faster when guitarist Jeff Hanneman got into punk rock - bands like D.R.I... The Misfits ... Minor Threat... and wanted those frantic rhythms in their songs. Slayer also saw Metallica play in L.A. in 1982 and were in awe... They wanted to emulate them, but w/ a darker image & edge like Venom, Mercyful Fate... They recorded their first album 'Show no mercy' in 1983, inspired by horror fiction and movies... it was followed by the EP 'Haunting the chapel'... and album 'Hell awaits' in 1985. As thrash metal started to gain popularity, producer Rick Rubin signed Slayer in 1986 to his label Def American and recorded their iconic album 'Reign in blood'... It was a controversial release w/ lyrics about the holocaust and serial killers... It was also the fastest metal record in history till that point. The next album 'South of Heaven' in 1988 took down the speed but none of the controversy... 'Seasons in the abyss' in 1990 put Slayer at the top of the thrash metal game (just behind Metallica and Megadeth) and the brutality of their concerts was legendary. The 90's started out promising, despite the firing of drummer Dave Lombardo in 1992... Paul Bostaph (drums) joined for the 'Divine intervention' album in 1994, and did the punk covers album 'Undisputed attitude' in 1996... But their 1998 album 'Diabolus in musica' was something of a disappointment as Slayer's popularity declined in the 90's... They returned w/ 'God hates us all' in 2001 and began to take off again, when Paul Bostaph quit again... Original drummer Dave Lombardo rejoined Slayer in 2002 to tour and the original Slayer was back on to w/ 2 successful albums - 'Christ illusion' (2006) and 'World painted blood' (2009). However, the problems began to pile up by 2011... Tom Araya had back surgery and was limited in mobility... Then, guitarist Jeff Hanneman was infected w/ a flesh-eating bacteria that put him out of action in 2011... Exodus guitarist Gary Holt began touring in his place. Financial disagreements led to drummer Dave Lombardo quitting Slayer in 2012... In 2013, Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman died from liver cirrhosis after years of alcohol abuse. Paul Bostaph (drums) rejoined Slayer and Gary Holt (guitar) became a permanent member as Slayer went back on tour and released their last album 'Repentless' in 2015... In 2018, Slayer announced that they would embark on their run of farewell shows and would end their career in 2019.

That's a nice summary! The one point that is argued about since time began is , if Metallica caused Slayer "to emulate" them. That might be true in a way that Slayer might have been inspired to go for it and stop worrying about if they can get a record deal out of it. But I very much doubt they changed or were heavily influenced artistically by Metallica. There's no debate that Metallica always have been the most popular band of the three you mentioned, but all of them went pretty different directions with their sound in my oppinion. Slayer were the most Punk and the door openers to Death Metal and Grind Core, Megadeath the most elaborate in arrangements and guitar ... artistry in solos (let's say) and thus closest to established Metal at the time (imho they kicked off most of the cleaner Speed Metal) , while Metallica might have hit the sweet spot in a mix of rawness and classic Metal structure and gave birth to most of the Nu Metal in the 90s. Let's face it - for a decade most bands tried to be Metallica with a twist (as far as success goes) and everyone and their dog argued if Metallica sold out to the man in the 90s , while Slayer were seen as the "real keepers" and always maintained a cult status as the "heaviest and steadiest" of the originators with a very specialised fandom compared to Metallica. Megadeath lost a lot of relevance towards the Millenium imho - maybe because they were much less distinguished from the pack in style than the other 2 . Unfortunately the same as Anthrax (who I love) and whose most memorable contribution to the anals of Metal might being one parent of "Speak English or die" (S.O.D.) and their collab with Public Enemy. Imho Anthrax kicked open the door and influenced very much of 90s Metal but rarely get credited for it. Sorry for the rambling lecture xD - I got carried away...

@@69quato From Slayer's Kerry King himself: "...they (Metallica) were ahead of us by at least 16 months to a year. They were doing originals and we were still doing covers. I think we opened for Metallica with Mustaine, I can’t recall, but I know me and Dave definitely saw them in a club and we were blown away by Mustaine. Still to this day, he’s a fucking great guitar player. It was very awesome, it wasn’t big clubs, you could see from anywhere, and I was very enamored with seeing Mustaine play these insane leads and James [Hetfield] playing these insane rhythms and barking out these lyrics. It was way more extreme than what I thought metal was or could be, it was like another arm of it, so to speak. We all came out around the same time, but Metallica certainly influenced me.” 'We played in Reverb Land, for lack of a better term. And the reverb was the first thing Rubin took out. When we heard the mix (for 'Reign in blood') we were like, "Why didn't we think of that before?" ' "I’ve always been a big Venom fan, and I think that a cross between Venom, Judas Priest and Metallica kind of made Slayer what Slayer is.” (The late) Jeff Hanneman: "At that time, we always listened to Metallica and Megadeth to see what they were doing, but one thing about me and Kerry is that we get bored of riffs really quick." I rest my case... 😈

@@69quato What more do u want than straight from their mouths? (It's 'simplified', dingus... and yes, it is that simple) Slayer were in their teens when Metallica were getting started (they were 2 - 3 yrs younger, except for Araya)... Kerry King even did early shows w/ Megadeth in 1984. So yes, in the early days (1983 - '85) Slayer were trying to emulate Metallica, Venom and Mercyful Fate... Remember, they were also huge Judas Priest fans, and hardcore punk rock inspired them to play faster... It wasn't until they met Exodus in 1984 when they were told to ditch the makeup and props (and they did!) because it worked better in the thrash metal scene... Overkill did the same theatrics in the early 80's before they were inspired by Metallica to go in a thrash metal direction and image. Also, bands like Anvil, Motley Crue and Accept do not get the credit they deserve for inspiring what became thrash metal... People in the metal scene were into Motorhead... but Anvil's 'Metal on metal' was a record that showed the potential of playing heavy, fast & loose... Motley Crue were loud and crude, and James Hetfield of Metallica was an early fan (Lars hated them) ... Accept's 4th album 'Restless and wild' in 1982 was a huge step forward for metal, especially the song 'Fast as a shark'... (That was the song Charlie Benante of Anthrax played at his audition). Metallica were an amazing live band in the early days, and there was a reason why they got so big so fast between 1983 and 1986... People now can hardly believe that Metallica was the band that inspired Slayer and Anthrax... but they did. It was their proximity to the bands of those days...

The original ending is even more delightfully unhinged 😀 I would recommend hitting the "back 10 seconds" button whenever you pause, too. You're ending up missing some killer transitions and breakdowns from pausing right when the riff changes (I noticed this in a couple of other songs as well).

The blonde haired guitarist- Jeff Hanneman- wrote most of the lyrics, and a lot of the music. He died several years back, after being stung by a scorpion! These guys have a LOT of great songs. Their lyrics tended to be darker than those of the other Big 4 (5, if you include Exodus) dealing with the occult, serial killers, etc. I was watching an interview a while back with Kerry King of Slayer, and Scott Ian of Anthrax. The question about groupies was asked, and Kerry was like "I WISH we'd had groupies! Our shows were all dudes!" You should try Testament. I'd love to see your reaction to Chuck Billy's voice! That dude was BORN to sing metal! They have a pretty healthy catalog of great songs, too.

It wasn’t a scorpion what stung him, it was a venomous spider. But that wasn’t what killed him. It was the drink that did. Liver cirrhosis is what got him in the end.

This was two for the price of one.. They skipped the solo of "Raining Blood" to get to the intro of "Black Magic". Such a shame.

Tom Araya has this amazing ability to make every single word understandable, ish... fair is fair, but no matter how harried his voice gets, you can always pick out what he's saying. That's a fucking gift!
