In this video, I’m going to explain what a Launchpad is, and demonstrate how you can use it. This tutorial is suitable for beginners, and requires no previous experience! I’m going to also give a demo of how track are made, with an example audio file.

This video is a bit older, but I want to let you know, that it helped me tremendously during the first hours with my launchpad. Every other videos were all over the place, this is structured and presented in a calm and friendly way. Not everyone who is an ableton wizard is a good teacher.... You are a good teacher.

Just got a Novation Lauchkey Mini for Christmas and I am new to Abelton, but these instruction were so concise. Very well done. I can now see how Abelton would be so well suited for live productions, like triggering a wav file for a DJ. Very intriguing.

some form of Ableton Lite comes free with every Launchpad. Also I'd just like to say you might want to try User One Mode, that's where you assign an instrument to a midi slot and press the button to the right of the Overview pad and it works like a piano.

I just bought the mini mkII for my sons 15th and I'm looking forward to using your guides to help us. We are both really in to gadgets, Gizmos and whatchamacallits so I have no worries at all as I know he can do this and crack what this controller can do along with Ableton live. Such a great guy teaching the basics in a clear informative manor. I wish there was more out there for use with Logic Pro now that logic has added launchpad use in live loops. Peter Armstrong Hi Peter, thanks very much for the comment. I would suggest the best way to do this is to record your synth in on an audio track, including all the patterns you'd want to loop and use, and then chop them up and put them in to clip slots. I believe like GarageBand, there are some pre installed samples that comes with the app that you have to manually install by going onto the ableton software app or website. You can also import your own mp3 or wave clips.

It's funny how one example can make what has been a confusing process finally make sense. I'm a Logic user but I noticed that everyone was raving about Ableton so I took the plunge and purchased both Live 10 and a Push 2. No matter how much I tried to understand the workflow it just didn't make sense to me. I was used to looking at one screen like every other DAW and seeing the results as I recorded. So I ended up selling the Push and was going to give up Live. I just happened to find your video and when you compared clips to Excel "cells" the light went on. Suddenly it all began to make sense. It may sound silly but for this technologically challenged man you turned a light on in my head and I appreciate it!

Hey there, thanks for getting in touch! You can either google a Launchpad project file for that song, or you can get the audio file and chop it up in to bits in Ableton to trigger with the pads. I hope this helps!

please ask me where can I buy a launchpad because in Canada (it's where I live) I go to the music shop and they ask that the last launchpad is in Alberta but it's so long from me!!!!!!??

not interested reev Hey, thanks for getting in touch! Ableton Live Lite comes free with the Launchpad, which is free forever. Without a Launchpad, you can get a 30 day trial of Ableton (Mac or PC, both are compatible). Hope this helps!

Yours clips aren’t in Alberton Lite. Since you reference the lite, wished you would work with the free version clips. This way we could get an idea how to use it like you’re showing us...

Thanks, helpful. When I started getting into this I was watching some vids on launchpad-style controllers and actually thought they themselves were instruments making sound. I sat through a whole Maschine MK3 vid thinking "amazing box!" and never realised until later you need software... Guess we've all been noobs at something.
