ALERT!: To repeat my warning placed in the Community Tab earlier on today, please ignore any messages supposedly from myself, relating to "Tellegram" (sic), the giving of prizes, etc. It is a scam. Please IGNORE. A kindly viewer/reader received this in his mailbox and passed it to me. To repeat, this is NOT from me. It is a scam.

I paid $300 australian dollars for these on amazon today, with free next day delivery. How have they more than halved in price over so little time? These are perfect headphones for me because it turns out my phone supports latest snapdragon sound which the headphones have. Finally audiophile quality music without cables and separate gadgets (DACs or whatever), and an insane battery life. Good build quality despite some cheaper materials, but the leather is real lamb skin, they come with microfibre "cool"cooling? earmuff covers, heard a reviewer say the carbon fiber is real, he could feel the weave. All that's "cheap" is the plastic, and old school headband adjustment or whatever. Oh and I like that they go insanely loud without distortion, I'll go deaf I don't, care worth it. Oh and they don't leak much sound unless you're listening really really loud.

Great review, I am really tempted by a pair as I am in the market for something to use wired through my amp as well as wireless through my iPhone. At present I use a pair of budget Roland’s wired and a wireless pair of AKG Y500 headphones. The Rowlands were bought on price alone and we’re about £40 so definitely need upgrading but the AKG’s sound good quality to my ears and got 5 stars from WhatHifi.

basically a Audeze LCD-1 but with closed back and wireless (same case same cable same headband and hinge design and quite the same price ) the Spirit of STAX is the EQ preset in the app... they do use Audeze drivers tech, with Equal Mass edifier membrane. i do own these (the S3 ) they have a lot to like being my first planar ... i am impressed (i briefly borrowed and tested the LCD-1 but once i found they were discontinued i was a bit sad ) one day ... i might be able to afford an e-stat, and i would like it to be a SR-L300 with the SRM-D10 driver, which at 1400ish $ would be already a lot for me x) very nice video very informative

Hi nice package. Just realised these are planar and have something to offer in research for next headphones. I've caught these just at the end actually of a few months looking. My list leaders are Focal Elegia. But nice to see Edifier doing their thing in making interesting offers in sound coming a bit unnoticed out of left field. I want to upgrade my soundstage portable headphone experience from trusty Sony XM3 and I have no doubt these would be an upgrade. I still think I will play safe and guarantee the difference by going something like Elegia. But yes, Kudos to Edifier for giving the world this option. At this price to give option of the planar in closed and BT is very much to their credit... Also looking at DCA Noire.., quite pricey!...very light...

The headset looks nearly identical to my Edifier w830bt. I know the driver tech is wholly different, just noticing some recycled design. The 830bt has been a workhorse for me for years now. An overlooked headphone for sure.

As an iFi Pro iESL / /Dan Clark Voce/Stax Lambda Pro user I bought these to use with my Cambridge Audio Alva TT. Not sure about the Stax involvement though - they sound a bit like Audeze LCD-1 wired phones, which comes as no surprise. They are okay I suppose but I think the brand new Grado GW 100x wireless that came out a few weeks back are the best audiophile BT headphones because they are open back. Personal opinion of course and always a pleasure to watch you Paul!

Do the S3 support AAC connecting to iOS devices?

1st time for a first comment. How do you rate Edifiers budget Bluetooth active speakers? On your recommendation I have ordered a Audio Technica 120XUSB turntable for my son for Christmas but now he needs some reasonable priced speakers to get him up and running.

I'm actually looking to grab a pair - I think the company has a new (newish) pair out and about so now would be a good time. Need to chat to the company, work it all out, etc. I'm not sure if I'll be in time for Xmas though, Tony, sorry.

I liked stax mode the most of the 3 eq and classic the 2nd most. I personally see Hifi EQ as the most neutral of the three.

hi great review well done......i am looking for a set of headphones to use watching movies / utube and netflix on my ipad plus listening to music so GOOD SOUND is important ....Whats NOT important to me really is noise cancelling or taking phone calls....are these headphones overkill for my needs or would i be better off getting ,,the BLACK FRIDAY PRICES ..... soundcore space one are 80 ( canadian ) 59 ( USD )....the soundcore Q45 are on sale here with black friday prices for 130 ( canadian ) 95 ( USD )would you get these over the sennheiser HD 450BT same price as the soundcore or the Edifier WH950NB for 179 ( canadian ) 130 ( USD ) ? ...out of these that i listed which would you recommend for my needs..... or is there one not listed which might work better ?....thx a bunch...cheers from Canada

As far as I know, the Game Mode is not an EQ setting, rather it's a low latency connection mode aimed at gaming
@TheAudiophileMan
@TheAudiophileMan 10 ай бұрын
To me? It's a poorly implemented gimmick. Maybe they think including bass to the sound envelope adds latency? This mids-centric option (it is an EQ when you hear the results of it - that is, that's the sonic effect it has on the ears) is the first time I've ever heard of a transducer requiring a latency 'fix'. If a transducer drags then the design is at fault, build a gaming headphone design that better suits the purpose. Don't destroy tonal balance and then give that effect a name as if you're doing the owner a favour.

It's what forces the qualcom chip to use the ll Bluetooth mode for low latency which this headphone supports @@TheAudiophileManthe sound quality degrades in favor of faster processing and response this is pretty much industry standard stuff for Bluetooth and isn't meant for music listening.

Sir, 2 quick questions….1. Do you still have/use these headphones? 2. Do you still recommend several months later? Thanks.

I am not a devotee of wireless anything. But if I was then yes, I would use these headphones to do the deadly deed.

I bought these a few months ago one of the worst audio purchases I've ever made. Pros: audio quality and battery life Cons: everything else. No headphone should take up to 14sec of pressing the power button to turn them on and off. The positioning of the power is plain daft, right next to and in the middle of the volume buttons. The app is one of the worst I've come across. About 60%ofbrhe time it refuses to accept that the headphones are attached, despite Bluetooth settings recognising them. Also, options are a few layers in the app. There is a noticeable difference between the three modes. I started getting spam on Chinese from the app. The app crashes from time to time. If you are using the 3.5mm cable rather than wireless and want to switch over to wireless be patient. Pull out the 3.5mm cable and the headphones turn off automatically (on the plus side this is one way to easily turn off the headphones). For larger ears the leather cups can bite. The cooler airpads are more comfortable, and definitely in warm weather as the leather ones can get very warm. The audio quality is good, helps if your device supports decent codecs. If you use the wired option then volume can drop unless you use something with a decent amount of power. Battery life is very good, handy as I've pretty much much given up on turning these off, and sadly the option in the app to auto turnoff, when it works, is limited. The case is decent though thicker than others I've had. The headphones fold (though materials haven't stood up well to a few months of use, unlike Sony whmx3 and Bose nc700 that I've had for a lot longer. If you're after audio quality, though you can get better (and more fun sound) for half the price with the wired 7hz Timeless or s12 planar IEMs. For outdoor calls forget it. I wasn't able to use these for outdoor calls unless there was I breeze. Edifier need to copy Bose buttons, usability, ANC and transparency (forget transparency with the Edifiers). Edifier also needs to copy Sony's app, build quality and comfort. The stax logo looks nice.
