I love Nightwish because you never know what you are going to get. Also the music goes right to my soul. No matter what is going on in your life when you listen to Nightwish they make everything alright. Another reason is that in their interviews and how they are on stage it is all about the fans. Tuomas(the keyboardest and composer) firmly believes that the fans deserve the best that they can give. When you play a song that is at the end of a concert you will see Tuomas clapping. That is for the fans. The music and how it is presented is so beautiful. Tuomas is a real genius to me. They now have over 100 songs and a new album coming out next year (I can't wait!!!! ) and he has composed and written the lyrics to 95% of the songs. There is not one song that I would turn off. Sure there are some songs that are better than others. I hope you get to feel what us die hard fans feel. :-)

That is what in musical terms is called a glissando (a continuous slide upward or downward between two notes). Three entire octaves (36 half steps) from D3 to D6 on the piano scale.It is very difficult to do smoothly. Singers transition from their chest voice through a mix point where they change over into a head voice. Unbelievably difficult to do without your voice cracking or dropping out at the change over point. And to do it with such power all the way up is very rare. Marco cannot keep up and he stops at the top of his range. Floor truly is an incredible talented vocalist.

I would like to add the last time they made a live DVD, after the concert they let go of their lead singer in an open letter shortly after, which a lot of folks viewed as being in bad taste. When he opened up the little speech with that sentence you hear the crowd take a breath in going, "oh no, we just got this singer and we like her."

And the "open letter" thing, I believe, is a reference to the open letter they sent Tarja (their first singer) when they fired her. That's why he said he might show some bad taste.

Its amazing to me how incredible bands like this are playing and touring all the time but we especially in the USA don't even know they exist. I think I had heard of Nightwish about 10 years ago but like many Americans I wasn't really interested in symphonic type metal. I think it's almost a crime to disregard bands like nightwish and especially vocal talent like Floor Jansen just because its a sub genre of a particular style of music. Hopefully they are becoming much more well known now because of KZfaq and reaction videos like these. Indeed the Nightwish family is huge now and Continuing to grow. Keep up the good work.

I think the band does a great job of exuding passion to their fans and it's reciprocated in turn. It's been that way for me since Tarja. I credit a lot of the emotion to Toumas. His compositions with the band's unbelievable/exceptional technical skills and singing of both Marco and Floor... it's honestly hard not to get emotional to their songs. The songs are really poems told through music and some like Poet and Pendulum, Greatest Show on Earth, and Ghost Love Score are simply epic poems.

The first song what I heard from them was or Wish I had an angel or Ghost love score, I don't remember. I was 13,now I'm 26. Still love them,with full of my heart. Each CD is a different story from Tuomas (keyboardist,composer) mind. When I was 13 I didn't understand the lyrics,but I still felt the story of the songs. I was crying not once,because of the pleasure of the music. Unfortunately I was not there in Germany. But after 10 years finally I had a chance to go to their show,and it was fenomenal. Never forget it. They are very professional,but I didn't feel the "plastic" at their show. And last year, me and my daughter, still 10 years old, we were together at a nightwish-show and she loves it. Okay, she was wearing noise protection, but it was absolutly great. The story, with the open letter goes really deep for nightwish fans. They fired their first singer Tarja Turunen 2005 with an open letter. If you want to go to the beginnings of the band, search for songs with Tarja, maybe "Phantom of the Opera" or "I wish i had an angel" or my favourite "Slaying the Dreamer", I love Marcos screaming in that song. Emppu has said in interviews that as they get older and mature as musicians they feel like big solos don't have much of a place in most of their songs and if a solo doesn't serve the song and the story it tells/emotion it conveys they just won't put one in there. It's about making a song that speaks to people not showing off.

For me, the reason I love Nightwish is Tuomas Holopainen (the keyboard player, and most important of all: the composer). Sure, they are all great musicians, and Floor is an amazing vocalist, but there are more bands with such skilled members. But Tuomas is the one who makes the difference. He's a fcking genius. Floor is often called a "female Freddy Mercury" because of her stage presence. I like to use a different comparison: almost every song Tuomas writes is of the same level as Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.
@michaellejeune77155 жыл бұрын
ArumesYT The skills of Emppu and Marco is on a level they could (and did) lead their own band. And they stuck with Tuomas and Nightwish. Enough said.

I not absolutely agree with you. The secret of the quality in this band is for me the new team spirit. After Floor was coming you saw the whole band smiling like never before. And especially Tuomas do some things to work as a team. Every member in this band get his special moments compositionwise and gets highlighted on stage. No longer Divas and Solo player. On the end of the concert in Tampere it was nice to see. No single artists.....It was a perfect team for me. And one thing please don`t forget. Yes Tuomas is a genius. But without these artists in this band he is nothing. What is a composer without the right musicans? ;-)
@ArumesYT5 жыл бұрын
@@carstenribbecke3272 However great the musicians are, they are replacable. Look what happened to Tarja. To Anette. To Jukka. Marco and Emppu can be replaced as well. And Tuomas can easily let someone else play the keyboards. But what would Nightwish be without his compositions? It's his compositions that set Nightwish apart from all the other female-fronted metal bands out there. This is not the first band Floor is singing in. Who performed better, Nightwish without Floor or Floor without Nightwish? How many of ReVamp's or After Forever's songs will go down in metal history as classics?

Since you are getting requests for Poet and the Pendulum and I think the backstory is quite important for that, here is my take on it: Nightwish came to life when shortly after their foundation the singer Tarja Turunen joined the band, a childhood friend from Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboarder and main composer of the band. They achieved some greatness together but there were mounting tensions within the band around Tarjas pursuit of a solo career and a certain dislike of her newly aquired husband and manager. This led to the band firing Tarja with an open letter right after the "End of an Era" concert in Helsinki. There is a DVD of that concert and I suggest you watch the last song and what goes on with the band members after that last song: :kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jtZndcZhlbS4fps.html Bring that mindset plus some quite negative reactions from the fans into play and you can see part of why Tuomas went into a pretty deep depression. In this state of mind he wrote the song "The Poet and the Pendulum" based on Edgar Allen Poes novel The Pit and the Pendulum, where a sharp blade slowly descends on a prisoner. The song deals with the pressure to write new songs, feelings of betrayal, despair and anger and the longing for death, but also with the unconditional love from his parents. After coming to a quite dramatic end, the song also offers a new beginning at the end. The song initially should be the namegiver to the new album but eventually the band settled on "Dark Passion Play", where it's on you whether to connect the first two words or the last. Remarkably the album was written without a specific singer in mind, in fact there is a demo version, where Marco sings all of the songs. The band then engaged Anette Olzon who performed the published version of the album and the next one "Imaginaerum". Unfortunately Anettes live performances were often overshadowed by lesser or greater illnesses and troubles with her voice. So it really took the change to their last singer, Floor Jansen, to bring the Poet and the Pendulum to the perfection it deserved when they performed it in the London Wembley Arena in December 2015. This version with lyrics you can find here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n6uqjbV-2c7MiIk.html. This is one of the rare Nightwish songs where you will either need to stop it several times or alternatively when it gets blocked to request to unblock it. Either of these methods have worked for many reactors already, so it should work for you, too :-) Have fun!

@@stephenchigwidden7504 Sorry for the non working link. This one works for now: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jtZndcZhlbS4fps.html It's "I wish I had an angel", arguably the first song that brought them international recognition. A bit less operatic than their first works and so maybe easier on the ears of radio listeners. So I assume it was chosen deliberately as the last song with Tarja. You may also notice that they had a text "and this is it" on the big screen. Although the open letter was only published after the concert, you see many fans crying, so maybe they at least had an idea what was going on.

Now you should try another style in the Nightwish colection. Something epic, emotional...something that makes you feel like you are watching a play. "The Poet and The Pendulum" live at Wembley. This one requires you to check the story behind the song so you can really understand what's going on. Tuomas wrote that song after they fired Tarja, their first singer. She and Tuomas were friends since they were kids and the fans loved Tarja. Tuomas had to face the angry fans and critics from the press and that lead him to depression and suicidal thoughts. Tuomas said that wrighting "The Poet and The Pendulum" worked like therapy and probably saved his live. He kills himself in the song to avoid doing it in real life. My favorite Nightwish song, for sure the most emotional one and it looks like you are watching a play, you can really feel the emotion. Sorry for my bad english, but I'm portuguese. Another great reaction! You guys obviously appreciate great talent when you hear it. Keeping that in mind if you would react to “Awakening” by Unleash the Archers, you just mite be blown away.

Really enjoy your reactions. Keep it coming. One thing though. Unfortunately you picked the blu-ray version from this song, which is only about 96% of original speed due to bad conversion from 25 to 24 fps. This does not sound like much, but it really feels sluggish compared to normal speed. Always try to go with the DVD version instead. DVD versions are the official NuclearBlast videos and the "Nightwish Live at Wacken Open Air 2013 HD Full Concert " for example.

I was not at this show although WackenOA is on my bucket list. I did see NW in Cleveland ( GO BROWNS!!) and in Pittsburgh, They have toured the US several times in the last few years and will again next year in support of their next album release early 2020. I assume they will perform in larger venues since you tube seems to have increased their popularity. Maybe in smaller arenas like Covelli Center in Youngstown or Petersen Center at Pitt. They as you might guess are incredible live.

Check out nightwish phantom of the opera (live end of an era), the Poet and the Pendulum from Wembley and The greatest show on earth from Tampere

When Marco said this is in bad taste, he was referring to his mention of the "open letter", which has a special meaning in Nightwish history. You'll learn about that along the way.

I jumped the gun and gave this a thumbs up as I think that I cannot go wrong with you two & Nightwish. Here's something quite different, but still amazing from Finland: Wintersun - Time (TIME I Live Rehearsals At Sonic Pump Studios) REMASTER kzfaq.info/get/bejne/art9qq-pq7Svg2Q.html P.S. The drummer in this Wintersun performance is Kai Hahto, who just last week became the official drummer for Nightwish having been their touring drummer for several years because Jukka "The Pirate" Nevalainen suffers from insomnia. I've been a Nightwish fan from when they started in 1996, but now that they have both Floor Jansen & Troy Donockley they are on a much higher level IMHO. I like the complexity & versatility of their music, poetic and meaningful lyrics and Floor's & Marco's amazing vocals. P.S. You're one sub closer to 2K.
