Join us, Daphne and Ian, as we embark on our new chateau renovation projects! This week, we make progress on various projects around the chateau. Ian continues grinding away on the Hunter's Lodge facade, and our new shower pan arrives. We get swarmed by a bee hive and our week ends with a free ride in a helicopter!
Our "beau chateau" (The 500-year-old, Chateau De Lesigny), is located near Paris, France. Most of the structures around the chateau domain need a full restoration, so we are investing everything we have into making the property thrive! We are learning more about french culture and developing new skills along the way!
As a French/American UC Berkeley graduate in Agriculture (Daphne), and a U.S. Air Force Tactical Response Force Veteran/ Kinesiologist (Ian), we share a love for challenges and adventure. We have a long road ahead of us and we are excited to share the experience with you!

Kudos for you letting the gentleman use your property for his bee hive colony. So important to keep the bee population up and thriving. The helicopter ride looked fun and also terrifying. The lawn restoration is lush and beautiful. Well done you two!

@@TheBeauChateau Hi. I have a question. Do you know why in that very old garden and fountain drawing shadows are being cast from the north (from right to left) if we assume that is the same fountain? Shouldn't sun be only in south, east or west? Also there is an old map (likely from 1600s) on internet that shows something like an old fountain being located in southern site of the palace.

As you were flying over the Chateau and the surrounding land I could imagine the gentry from a couple centuries ago doing the same from a hot air balloon. The more things change the more they stay the same. Loved the mini-education on the bees - nature is fascinating. Thank you Daphne and Ian! A bientot!

I had a feeling the water would continue flowing into fountain, it is lovely. I think you should just get a tub. Showers are ok but tubs are way better. The door looks amazing by the way. Don't hurt your back! lift with your legs.

I LOVE THE DUCKS!!!! We occasionally get ducklings but they are eaten by the alligators that come up in the canals. So happy to see a safe little family of ducks! ❤

I love the green color of the shutters! It’s way better than that horrible flat evergreen that was on them. That bathroom has really put you two through it! How cool the pilot gave you a ride. I love riding in helicopters! Cheers, Doc🫶🏻

So happy to see the bees doing well, a great sign for the health of the nature around the Chateau. And the duck family and little birds were adorable. You two definitely get your workouts w/o need of a home gym, lol. Your calm handling of turning the shower pan issue into problem solved was excellent. I woulda probably freaked out, lol. Hi Daphne and Ian, the shutters are coming along beautifully, I am so sorry about the difficult time they are giving you. What a shame about the shower, but like the shutters, you two figured it out. The bathroom will be so wonderful and beautiful when its finished. It was very interesting about the bees, I also learned that if they swarm you, run in a straight line, and never jump in a pool, they will wait for you to come up for air and attack. I loved the helicopter ride, your land and the surrounding land was just stunning, what a view. Love from N.Y.

LOVE the new shutter colour & the refurbished iron hinges! What a lot of fiddly work your bathroom is needing. In Australia, we have a liquid water proofer that you just paint on. 🤔 Wow, wonderful surprise to fly over the Chateau and see all your hard work. 👏👌😊

Hello, from the mountains, of north central Arizona! What a wonderful channel, and such a beautiful Chateau! In the last 36 hours, I've officially binge watched every episode. I absolutely LOVE what's being done, with all of the renovations, and maintenance of the Beau Chateau. I have a certificate in Interior Design, and am a self-taught Mosaic artist, and appreciate all of the work that you're doing on the Chateau, and the Hunter's Lodge tile projects. The filming, and editing, of each video is AMAZING, and I will look forward to each new episode. Ian and Daphne...you're both such hard workers, and so awe inspiring, for us, to see the progress, and your vision. CHEERS to you, to your love, and to The Beau Chateau!

I would think as a revenue making opportunity is a grand yearly ball there. Very exclusive, people dress in period clothing, beautiful food and wine, top class music (not modern) and a chance to experience a grand French experience in an exquisite Chateau. I don't know if you have rooms to rent out there or are set up for it but maybe one grand suite at least. Summer night, music playing, the gardens are open and the ladies are dressed in their best finery. What a lovely picture. Love you vlog.

Thanks for reply Thankyou to Ian for your service We are grateful! My Father Rocky Communication/in Army WW11 And our ancestors are French All the way to Louie 14 My Father Fighting and was in your area ,He did not talk about it But with me and him sharing about France. My God Father was Pilot in WW11 and he would be flying over my Dad while he was fighting on ground Woody would be on his way to Bomb locations my dad sending to him. When you film alot of area your traveling thru I remember my Dad knowing the Chateau so Thankyou again!!! I am 68 my Dad and Woody have been gone for years but You've brought them back My Son Navy Vet .Afghanistan, Iraq Home safe Prayers answered! Happy 4th July!!!

Ian...If you want the paint on your shutters to last, use an oil based primer first so the paint soaks into & grips the wood grain, then use your oil or latex final color over the primer. The advantage of the primer coat is it's thinner & creates a firm foundation coat for your topcoat(s). ❤️🙏

Thank you for the pro tip! We are actually using a green stain instead of paint because we wanted to see more of the wood grain and so far it looks pretty good! Ian half regrets going with the stain because of all the extra work it requires, but the difference between the paint and stain really shows when you see it in person 😉

Oh my, the family of ducks and the birds so calming and natural. You have such a lovely Chateau and I look forward to following you as you continue to fix it up. I had honey bees on my property a few years ago and it was the same thing, they escaped from a bee farm and had to be caught. Like you, I was excited to receive jars of honey as a reward for turning them in! Wow a great opportunity you had riding in the helicopter! Super!

Flying in helicopters is so much fun. The agility and ability to see things closer than in a plane is awesome. I enjoyed the segment about the bees. I learned something new about them. Sadly, I'm deathly allergic to insect stings, so I would have to keep my distance... but I'll definitely eat the honey. 🙂😋 You guys are making good progress.

You should host people to come volunteer their time to help with bigger jobs that don;t require as much skills. Like the lawns, cutting trees etc, cleaning the stones so you can make some more headway faster while offering people the chance to experience the domain.

Nice vlogs! I'm binge watching at a rapid pace to follow your real life. But about the bees: keeping honey bees can be useful for the pollination of various crops, but too many honey bees in a certain place will eventually displace other bee, bumblebee and wasp species. And that is less for biodiversity.

A shower pan full of water is nothing like a tub full of water. You did go with the lighter choice here. Always stick with the heavy shower pans because they last the longest and don’t leak in 5 years.
