@@morgun1911 what I want was a story with less superficial monologues and a better message. For instance, the original Blade Runner is slow most of the time and until the end is just a good film. What did make it a materpiece of scifi? The tears of the rain. Ok, maybe I was asking for too much, it is not fair, but... Well I believe that it was better, also maybe spanish citics were so good that they compared to many films, and that is the problem. But, like I have just said, for me it was too superficial because the problem is not being boring, the problem is when the message is not deep.

This will be the most underrated movie of the year. It’s a blockbuster that’s secretly an indie. Cares more about silence then bombast action. More about its character’s development than the story. It may be an unpopular opinion considering Parasite, the Lighthouse and more has come out, but this is the movie that stuck with me. I’m sad it probably won’t be nominated for anything, and will likely stay under many people’s radar. It’s message is one that’s both nihilistic yet motivational.

The Beauty Of ya the tone from drama to action was a bit wonky. Probably due to studio intervention to make the film more profitable. Either way this definitely isn’t the best movie of the year, probably not in the top 5. But it’s definitely my favorite of the year
@momoller
@momoller 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheBeautyOf Actually I think the moon one (and the attack) are what make this movie so gripping : it's a perfect rendition of reality. The whole look of the film, the costume design, the set design, none of it is overdone. It's not super smooth, super design, super streamlined but it's utilitarian. It's military, just as near-future space travel would be. The whole film is about the underlying humanity in everything. It doesn't matter how far from home we stray : be it on this planet, the moon, mars or the furthest outreaches of the galaxy like Neptune there's one thing that never changes : we're still human. We're still driven by emotions, sadness, anger, jealousy, violence, ego. Doesn't matter where we go, it'll follow us everywhere. So the moon scene shows perfectly that people will remain exactly that : people. They will colonise, attack to defend, defend to attack out of jealousy and whatnot. As a species, we are who we are. Always and forever.
@gxldenchild6764
@gxldenchild6764 4 жыл бұрын
Morgan Moller Yes! I haven’t seen many people with the same opinion on this, but the moon scene really does show us a lot about humanity. Same with the fact that there were McDonalds and Subways on the moon. Humans take over and always want more.

James Gray is, in a very subtle way, one of the most idiosyncratic modern filmmakers in my opinion. No other director could have made Ad Astra quite like he did. While similar to Kubrick or Villeneuve, his films have this...naturalistic feel to them. His movies both clinical and deeply personal...I don't know how to describe it :)

Hit the nail on the head with Gray. I discovered him with The Lost City of Z a few years back and burned through his filmography quickly. The guy knows how to make a movie that cuts you with just a few lines or just a simple action from a character. Hope he never stops.

Ad Astra.. I believe the space and worlds destruction was the plot.... But the real underlying and poignant message was the relationship of the son, brad Pitts character and the father, Tommy lee jones. How the son got through life by working hard pushing hurt, anger abandonment feelings to one side. Finally through a leading up to a world disaster he has a chance to confront and deal with all this by finally finding his father. By meeting, talking and seeing what the father has done and become. The son was still able to reach down and forgive the father and telling him that he loved him. Then through the final powerful scene the father tussled with the son and telling him to let go, "let me go Roy"....The son with sadness did !....this set him free brought inner healing, love and reconciliation with life and wife.

Gosh the score is amazing. I can’t explain the way this movie makes me feel. It made me rethink about why I wanted to go into aerospace and what I was really searching for. I wanted a life outside of a normal one and I always looked at interstellar like I’m going to be that guy venturing out into the reaches of space because elide here is so boring. Ad Astra helped me realize that pursuing a life to get away from everything isn’t really a life at all. I have to remember who I’m trying to impress and who I want to make happy and that’s me and the people who love me. Sure learning the secrets of the universe would be fun to explore but at what point is it too much to the point where it breaks the balance of the most powerful thing in the universe ..love.

This movie so slept on and does not get nearly enough recognition. I've seen it like 3 times and everytime I was on the edge of my seat invested but whoever I was watching it with just wasn't understanding it.

Trying to sum up my thoughts on this movie...struggling because it’s not a conventional sci fi movie yet everything about should say it is...the vastness of space, entering the unknown, space exploration, space stations, tech talk, epic space vistas.. All on display here, and star quality in Brad Pitt. Yet what you realise for all that’s visually on display what this movie talks about is very close to home... this movie reminds us we don’t need to go searching the stars to find that which we have within our very own selves and to not lose sight of what we have within our grasp..a beautiful, delicate, mesmerising thought provoking poignant piece of cinema. Oh and Max Richter...take a bow sir...blissful soundtrack
