I love this song because of Maurice's falsetto part. "Blamin' it all.."! 😊❤️

Its actually Barry that does the falsetto. This song is wherevBarry 1st used his falsetto.
@allybeetulk14572 жыл бұрын
You're actually both right, depending on performance. In this one it is Barry and I'm pretty sure he is also the falsetto in the album texording but Maurice did it sometimes. The midnight special also in 1975 has Mo doing it. Here it is kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fJiDd8lll83Zcmg.html
@TheBrownlj2 жыл бұрын
@@allybeetulk1457 it was definitely Barry in the studio recording. He was asked by Arif Mardin to scream in tune and add some falsetto ad libs to Nights on Broadway. He added the falsetto and screams after the song was already recorded. It was such a sucess that the same thing was done with Fanny Be Tender. After the song was recorded Barry went back and added some falsetto layers. The only reason why Mo did a few Blaming it alls on the Midnight Special performance was because Barry couldn't sing in his normal voice and falsetto at the same time. There is a big difference to the amount of screaming and ad libs and strength of vouce on the studio recording to Mo's couple of Blaming it Alls on the Midnight Special though. I really dont know why people think there is a comparison.

I have spent the last week obsessed with this song and it is clear that this is live performance, though based on the footage there might be one or two prerecorded passages that were dubbed in or played over. But in general it is *insane* how closely especially the beginning of this rendition follows the studio recording!! No one can touch these guys!!!

So this video is allegedly the first time Barry Gibb came out and sang the falsetto live. It was always Maurice that had performed the high falsetto for this song. This time Barry does at the end...it became the start of the super famous “disco” BeeGees. The Bee Gees had something that no other band has ever replicated. Three brothers blending voices together to make an un-replicable sound. Their full story is very remarkable. This was their best song. Growing up all I knew them for was Saturday night fever falsetto singers. It was crazy when I learned they had many, good ones before disco (that made them berserk famous) was even a genre of music.

Growing up during this era, I didn’t “get” The Bee Gees’ sound and didn’t like disco. Now I appreciate it. They were the first “white soul” band. This is pure R&B and Black soul-jazz blended with haunting British Invasion pop melodies. The lyrics of Saturday Night Fever’s soundtrack, once you get past John Travolta’s gyrations, are sensitive and speak of the urban decay, deprivation and longing of the New York City of that generation. It’s nice to have genuine, original artists to rediscover in this current age of copycats. RIP and bravo, Brothers Gibb.

For all young people The Bee Gees reached much higher than The Beatles during the 'Disco Era' with their contemporary R&B music.This was 2 years before the blockbuster movie Saturday Night Fever was released.This Main Course Album was the beginning of The Bee Gees ascent to the stars.2 years later come 1977 The Bee Gees were off the radar with their success and far higher than The Beatles.Let's hope one day a movie of The Bee Gees is released that pays homage to their musical success .

They actually sang to the original version of the song on this performance. They played the studio version in the background and they sang along with it. Nights on Broadway was the "crowning achievement" of the Bee Gee's musical career. There are few songs that they did (although all of their music was good in it's own unique way) that comes even close to Nights on Broadway. The falsetto singing, Robin's "wavering" voice, Maurice's backing vocals, makes this a perfect song.

So funny how at 2:40 the sound system feedback takes Barry by surprise, but he's so poised. He simply smiles. Beautiful song, although now that I'm older, the lyrical hyperbole strikes me as sounding somewhat like a stalker, lol! God blessed us by giving them such great voices, songwriting ability, and talent. Thankful for this wonderful music! Though the technicality of this is off, there is something magical about their voices. Maybe it's genetics and how they sound together.

@missym72454 жыл бұрын
@@kristeninthedirtysouth Yes, he was treated as a backup singer. I only watch for him. He's so gorgeous and had such style. I think this performance is terrible. Before Barry started singing falsetto Maurice did the high harmonies (not falsetto, his words). They used to perform this song live brilliantly. It's a shame they changed it as it seems they don't know what key it's in and Robin is way off. A very rare bad performance.
