I'd agree with that last statement if Sony wasn't doing this for many years now, long before all the Xbox studio acquisitions. The reason Microsoft started acquiring studios is because this very practice. Sony isn't paying for exclusivity deals because they don't have a choice. They are leveraging their market position to stifle competition. Afterall, the Playstation was already far more popular than Xbox and yet Sony was being even more aggressive by paying for exclusive content for games from ABK, Square Enix, Bethesda, Capcom, etc. Microsoft is starting to publish Xbox games on all platforms. So once you rise from your hibernation - remember that having another version of a platform to host games is NOT a hindrance...but an alternate...cheaper entry to a games industry which...in most ways proves inaccessible to most due to its high bar, pricewise. ACCESS has been what's made gaming a rather elitist pastime for other people. Some called the S a potato...but they too failed to realise what's been lacking in the games industry...a reasonable admission fee. I don't mean to attack you. Any and EVERY studio could and SHOULD optimise for the lowest system. The payoff is a much LARGER pool of gamers and need I say it - but MORE EXPOSURE to their game and MORE REVENUE.

Nothing you said includes the challenges of software development cycles. Being a person who had to manage engineering teams and product development, just running quality test between iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 already takes a bunch of resources and time. Assuming I had resources and Luxury to a team for each target device, It would still require more money to hire people to fill those spots and provide them test plan to do their testing and bug reporting. You cannot assume you can develop once and just copy and paste the code across to execute on difference devices and provide optimal experience, especially these days where games that releases with bugs get trashed by gamers and reviewers. The assets that can be shared between XBOX X, XBOX S, and PS5 is maybe textures, if if the developer wanted something really optimize for XBOX S, they probably wouldn’t use high-res textures and downscale it to the S, technically this could be done, but it would have looked better if they created native lower res assets for the S. But once you start having differentiating trees, you need to get your QA team to test them. The studio could make a decision to delay the launch altogether and wait until every build is complete (XBOX X, XBOX S, and PS5) and release them simultaneously, or they can just release the system they will complete the development for first. Here, likely PS5, since MS requires developers to release their games both on S and X at the same time and not asynchronous releases where they could just release for X first and S later. Then you have to gamble on the ROI vs Expenses to build for different devices and platforms. SURE, what you said, could also hold true, but it doesn’t make what I said about complexity and challenges of multi-platform and multi-device releases any less true as well.

We don't know. Technically speaking they can be working on optimizing the Xbox version. It's just that there could also be an exclusivity deal in play and that's the real reason they don't have a release date or even a time frame. What we know right now is that the big exclusive games for the Playstation for 2024 are all third party games.

No one makes a deal like that. If they aren't releasing it at the same time it's either because the game isn't done (aka optimization), or they have an incentive (aka timed exclusivity deal) not to release it at the same time. The third party studio is not making a game that's owned by Sony or Microsoft, they are making their own game. Sony and Microsoft can't dictate when the game should be released without having some involvement that gives them the authority to do so.

I don't have FOMO so I don't mind waiting. I prefer to get multiplatform games on the Xbox. I'm still playing through my backlog of games and I still buy games even though I have Game Pass Ultimate. I also own a PS5.
