I read this interview with Jose several years ago. I was impressed how he never complained about the hand that life dealt to him and how he accepted it. From coming from a large family, doing migrant work, and surviving war and still not asking for compensation for what the government put him through. Until a family member encouraged him to file a claim with the VA. Very proud man.

*I have watched every Vietnam Voices video and I even go back and listen to some of them all over again..sometimes I listen to them with my earbuds when I go to sleep (gives me some scary dreams sometimes) but I can’t believe these videos don’t have millions more views than they do and most of the videos are 5 years old or more (today is 2/2022). I wish these young kids would take some time and listen to these men tell their stories..maybe they would have more appreciation for their freedoms, their country and the life they have...even if they listened to one of the videos while playing a video game..or like I do,listen to them at night as you lay in bed.*

I do the exact same thing. I’ve been listening to them straight for four days. 10/30/23 There’s nothing like this that brings you closer to being there. I love these guys and I swear to God, I wish I was around when those protesters waited for these guys when they came home. It would be an honor to go to jail. Lol

This is wholesome. I'm watching the voices of Vietnam series and I'm glad to see that these people, who, at least in my eyes, are heros. Seeing someone talk about the veteran in the video that actually knew them humanizes them. Them talking about life after the war about working normal jobs (teacher, electrician, buisness/company owner) just makes you realize that they are just human, like you and I.

I asked my granddaddy, who volunteered at the age of 28, why he wasn't the hellraiser after Vietnam that I'd heard he was before. He simply said, "Son, war humbles a man".
