You failed to mention how much of a badass this Splinter is when it comes to fighting. Every time he has to go out on the field he effortlessly beats everyone's ass to the point where the Turtles' enemies start running, honestly his fights were some of the best in the show

My only issue about Splinter death is that they overplayed him diying so many darn times that, when he actually did kick the bucket, I was more like "I guess this time is final". Edit: I'll make myself more clear: I am not saying that Splinter died many times, but they sure liked to make us think he WOULD die more than once, make it SEEM he did died.
@TheBrunner4126 жыл бұрын
I don't recall there being 'that many times'.. we knew he wasn't dead at the end of Season 2, just badly injured. and Season 3's death was shocking but they were racing to undo that. It felt heavy when it happened with Super Shredder killing Splinter because, idk, it just FELT final...like...shit..that really did just happen. no redo. its real.

I loved the expansion on Raph's character from this one! It kind of started in the 2003 (which I love equally to 2012 btw) as in this one they made him a big sweetheart inside. In 2003, he was also sweet at times, and very overprotective of his family, but the intensity of this does not compare to 2012. Raph is very empathic, and he is very emotionally connected to himself, and can therefore understand the emotions of others. He was the one to tell April to think of Donnie when she was under the Aeons spell and about to kill him, and he was the one who told Tang Shen to follow her heart when she had to choose between Yoshi and Saki. This is also why he has such a deep connection to his pets and his love interest, (also why he gets the furthest into a relationship with his love interest out of all the turtles). This show directed his tough anger toward others for hurting his family. He is so dedicated and emotionally connected to them in the theme of family that he willing to give up his life for any of them. This made his character so multi-dimentional, and this is what made his such a fantastic character in my opinion.
@donjwolf2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Even though I am very late with my reply, I am pleased that other people see his true nature too. The accusations people often throw at him are never true (eg 'he is always angry, weak, a pussy, never emotional, never a hero), and he has so much depth! He is my favourite character ever. I'm glad there are other fans of him out there.

As someone who can empathize easily with Raphael, I can say that his mature variant in the Mad Max style episode was his most emotionally advanced completion as he was taking a strong leading role due to his years of emotional learning experiences and self-control to the point where he genuinely only cared and didn't lash out like a prick, just genuinely cared.

There is one thing you forgot to mention when talking about splinter. Dont get me wrong I agree with you in every regard, but when it comes to fighting he did not just fight like a Ninja Master, he also faught like a Rat, running on all Fours, using Claws, Teeth and Tail. The only thing coming close to that was 80s Splinter Biting that one Board in the Intro song but that was it.

sasamichan Judging it solely based on that is very closed minded. I’ve watched it through the entire way so while I do like it just fine, I think I still prefer the 2k3 series. Don’t get me wrong this is fine, but I really didn’t like a few of the elements in it, namely all the story backtracking all the time (Karai must be away from the turtles), the mutants on Shredder’s team having frozen character development (what did Bradford and Xever do after getting mutated), the lack of varied locations for most of the series (space not withstanding, and yes I know this was a limitation of CGI but it’s still a bit boring to see the same set pieces used over and over again, 2k3 really didn’t have this limitation due to being hand drawn) or really how by the end of the series they feel like they’re exactly where they started, just that Splinter isn’t there. And the less said about whatever that Mad Max thing they were doing, the better.

facts after season 4 it died
@avalongavastan37072 жыл бұрын
@@anteupmatrix1154 Same I didn't like the later episodes of season 3 and season 4 was jumping the shark by a huge marine when a show tries to take place in space it usually dies out. Like when they try to drastically change genres like why? Most of the space adventures were boring and felt like filler the fact that villains we loved like shredder and his minions were not present at all really hurt it for me and if they were going to kill the krang at least replace them with something just as substantial. My favorite season would be season 1 since like in the 1984 TMNT the first season was very good and could have been the end of the show with how good everything was built up. First season 1 was simple no ridiculous massive arcs with a lot of characters to keep track of and remember. Second the characters got fleshed out alot in episodes like when Ralph kept losing his temper with Leo in training and in battle and they learned to work together near the end and become more closer. With my favorite episode being how the undermine Mikey and Donny as the lesser fighters but at the end of the day they learn that everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. Third the finale was great it wasn't so incomprehensive where it was hard to follow unlike season 3/4 with it's stupid time travel. It was simple but exciting and engaging invade the TCRI and stop the krang invasion while splinter deals with the foot clan and fases off with shredder with excellent fight choreography and splinter winning in the end on the skin of his teeth and the turtles as well trying to destroy the portal. I will make a review about it in the future as a good critique instead of just praising the show just cause it has alot of stories. (with only less than half of them being good)

I'm saying it right now, _Mutans Vs. Monsters_ did the monsters better justice than Universal's Dark Universe, especially The Mummy. That's right, Nickelodeon did the monsters better than Universal Studios. On another note, the _Mutant Apocalypse_ story arc had been implied to be set in an alternate timeline by the writers, so the episode's inclusion in the series as canon is highly debatable and may be nothing more than a "What if?" story.

I honestly love this incarnation. When I saw the trailer for it on Nickelodeon, I was skeptical and thought it to be a "boys show", where it's all nonsensical action, but I decided to give it a shot. I'm forever happy I did. I fell in love with it almost instantly and it brought so much inspiration and light into my life. However, I do have some major complaints. They're mainly regarding the romance between the Turtles and the female cast. At first, I didn't mind Donatello and April doing their playful flirting or just having downright cute moments. But I felt it dragged on a bit and doesn't really develop besides from a few arguments and blind forgiveness here and there. As for Leonardo and Karai, that's where my biggest issues rise. I had sort of higher expectations for Karai; her design was sleek and interesting, as well as her personality. But pairing her with Leo doesn't really work for me. Perhaps it's simply my own love for the leader in blue blinding me, but I felt it was forced then sort of dropped after it had been revealed Karai was Splinter's daughter (plus I feel that makes Leo & Karai at least adoptive siblings which makes their romance sort of.. unusual). I understand that it's young love and complicated, but I felt the romance could've been handled a bit differently. The same goes for certain characters. I LOVED Tiger Claw when he first appeared but I felt his role turned from being a badass assassin, to nothing more than a standard wise-cracking villain. Shinigami is sort of the same way. When I read the brief description of her, my expectations were through the roof at seeing a witch in the TMNT cartoon. I actually thought she'd be an adult, not a teenager, and was slightly disappointed at her final character. There's also certain story arcs that were unfinished/left behind that I wish had some closure. But I definitely would still call this one of my favorite cartoons, if not ever. I'll probably rewatch it on my own time to see it with some more mature eyes and hopefully a fresh mind. Other than that, I love this show to bits and hope Rise of the TMNT will do it justice!

Like you, ERod; I also loved this show. My favorite things about it were the depictions of Shredder, Splinter, Donatello and Mikey; especially Mikey. @erubin1006 жыл бұрын
2003 Shredder was cool and all, but I wouldn't call him the best version of the character. At some point he got WAY too over the top as a megalomaniac cartoon supervillain, similar to Megatron from Beast Wars. Also, one could argue that he was more of an amalgamation of Shredder and Krang then an actual version of the Shredder. So if we're discussing who's the best version of the Shredder in his own right, the 2012 version takes the cake.

He was a good Shredder, but he always felt somewhat flat. :/ And man, you want petty Shredder? TMNT 2012 Shredder is literally the definition of petty. He kidnapped and raised Splinter’s daughter out of spite for what happened to Tang Shen (which was his own fault), and then years later, he chose to kill Splinter even though that ended the world. So yeah. Pretty damn petty.

At first, I wasn't into the turtles, but when this version showed up on the channel, I started loving it compared to the other versions which I wasn't that interested in. I grew up watching this version since high school when it premiered. They made great stories with memorable characters, challenging villains, funny dialogues, bigger stories through later seasons. Each season went from bigger to bigger to deeper to darker. When I rank this show with all the other nickelodeon shows, it's my number three favorite. I love your honest review´s the most and is this your longest one? Great. I have loved this show since it began. I was really worried it whould be to focused on humor, don´t get me wrong I like Teen Titans but it could be way to silly at times. But this show proved me wrong at every corner. They had so much heart and drama my heart barely could provide more water for my eyes. Splinter was the absolutely best thing in this show, favorite Splinter yet our of all versions. The characterization of the turtles are also my favorite, Mickey is so adorable and lovable and cute, I am so happy to have a guy character like that. He did however lean on being WAY to gross when it come to food in later season, I guess it´s logical considering what they were eating before they turned 15. April could be really incconsistent for me with her powers but actually it was used better then typical telekenisis character´s like Jean Grey. Favorite villian is a split on Baxter Stockman and Xaiver. Love there humor and fighting style. It´s funny they ened on Season 5 since you mentioned in a video long ago that it whould be a nice amont for them and not drive this show into the ground so nice prediction there Erod. But I guess no one could guess how they whould make season 5. But considering season 4 how could they make it better? Favorite season was 2. It got a lot of this wonderfully wierd and creepy horror episodes and my favorite finale. The music is great, I hope to get some OST from this show. And when ever things looked 2D animated or comicbook like. Wonderful. The focus on art was great. I will try to watch the new show and we will see if it´s something to look at or if it is for a new set of fans.

So I understand that as two different species, a relationship would be difficult. But given that Donatello is a Ninja, the second deadliest warrior on the planet (#1 being a US Navy Seal) as well as a genius in both mechanics and chemistry, exactly how is Donnie out of April’s league?

Great review, Erod! I've never really watched this show, but I truly get the love for it all. It's certainly an amazing show. I was just more of a Power Rangers fan growing up, so I had more of a connection with that show instead. Quick question for everyone. Did anyone else slightly wish that Erod referenced Andre Meadows and his "SMOOTH DONATELLO" gag from his channel? There's even a possibility that the show used his outro "OUTIE 5000" for a saying for Bebop, as he said it a few times in the show. Keep up the great reviews :)
@theredeft53196 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Adler Oh they definitely were referencing Andre. I mean not only did they do the outie 5000 thing, but they did the smooth Donatello thing. I loved Andre's reviews, but for some reason he never finished reviewing the series. I don't know why. I don't really watch Andre's stuff anymore.
@jeremyadler96206 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reminding me about the "Smooth Donatello" thing in the show! I'd completely forgotten that! As for Andre not doing Ninja Turtle stuff these days, I'm not sure why he's stopped for now. Hopefully he'll get back to them somewhere down the line. I'm still watching his videos and they're still great fun. Try to give them another watch if you get the chance sometime.

The best adaptation of the turtles tend to be the ones that combine the mature tone of the mirage comics and the comedic tone of the 80s show, and this is definitely one that captures that well, as well as the 1990 film and the 2003 show.

@theredeft53196 жыл бұрын
geardog24 Yeah, but they never did get together so maybe that's why they didn't mention it? I don't know that was always on shaky ground since Splinter's DNA is what gave the turtles their human aspects. I honestly thought Karai had better chemistry with Shinigami anyway. Also speaking of couples while I guess Donnie and April never officially got together I kind of feel like it was implied. Especially with that music video.

Actually, the "Mutant Apocalypse" episode wasn't INITIALLY intended as an homage to "Mad Max" (though that series was DEFINITELY a major factor). No, the 2012 series was NOTORIOUS for combining aspects of almost EVERY iteration of the TMNT from throughout history. And one VERY obscure addition to this mix was the Palladium tabletop RPG "TMNT And Other Strangeness" . . . and its supplemental material, called "After The Bomb," a post-apocalyptic story about a devastated Earth after a humanity-destroying explosion, where only mutant animals still survive. Sound familiar? :)

As far as character designs go, I really love Splinter's design: I really feel like his character design feels like the mix of the two actual original characters of Hamato Yoshi and Splinter. For anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, it the comics and the 90s movies, Hamato and Splinter where actually two separate characters: Hamato was human, and Splinter was his pet rat. But in every tv adaptation the two are combined into one character, Yoshi mutating into Splinter. Here, I always felt that Splinter's design looks like an actual domesticated, pet rat with the multiple colored fur and its pattern.

So, I wanna give some fun comparisons that I've heard about and noticed: Greg Cipes and Ashley Johnson always play opposite love interests in Nieli's shows: First, there was Beast Boy (Cipes) and Terra (Johnson) Next, there was Chiro (Cipes) and Jinmay (Johnson) Now, there's Mikey (Cipes) and Renet (Johnson). Coincidence? Probably.

Donny is a human/reptile hybrid due to how his muation was. AND April is alos a mutant, so thus it's not really a problem. Sonic is an actual Hedgehog just turned anthropomorphic in terms of how that series seems to work in terms of coninutiy, and Elise is a 100% human.
@brennanhearn63426 жыл бұрын
Except, the turtles are fully turtle that got mutated by the ooze, taking a humanoid form because they came into contact with humans as they were mutated. April is still more human than anything else, and Splinter, well. Odd that he became as much a rat as the turtles are turtles rather than maintaining a more human than anthropomorphic form, but whatever, right?

I much preferred the Agent Bishop from the 2003 TMNT series. A soldier who fought in the war of 1812 was abducted and experimented on by aliens and has spent most of his life as a xenophobic alien-hunting government boogeyman who tries to dissect the Turtles and Splinter in order to create a new race of humans who can stand against any and all alien threats. I especially liked how they made Bishop's creepy cyborg clone of himself that universe's version of the Rat King in the episode "I, Monster".

Awesome and heartfelt review. I agree with 10.0. This series just really made the characters so memorable. One thing I will say is that the "Mad Max" episodes while dark, was really a master piece. We don't like to think this was the Turtles fate but at least they all reunited at the end.
@Nekufan10000004 жыл бұрын
We don't want to think it was their fate because it was pretty stupid and OOC, as well as ignoring half the canon of the series. In a world with magic, where Tiger Claw summoned a demon, Renet TALKED ABOUT THE TURTLE HEROES IN THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY, and also, obviously, Renet means time travel, you're saying the apocalypse just ... happens? BULLSHIT. Utter HORSE CRAP. Mikey doesn't live in the desert for decades, Renet picked him up, they went back to the night of the blast, he beat the shit out of whoever had the bomb, it didn't go off, the world was saved. MA makes a good what if or alternate reality, but to say it was anything close to canon or even CORRECT is ludicrous. To get to that point you have to ignore SO MUCH BACKSTORY AND WORLD BUILDING. It felt like whoever wrote it joined in on the last three episodes and was like, "MAD MAX!"

There seems to be two major factions of TMNT fans: those who love the comics (thus the 2003 show as well), and those who love the '87 series (thus the 2012 show as well). I'm sure there are people in the middle, but this divide is exemplified by the way the '87 turtles were treated in the various crossovers. I give this series props for not taking the low road like Turtles Forever did no matter the latter's reasons. But when there's more homages to one side than the other, fans on the other side tend to feel ignored. Just take a look at the numerous mentions of "2003" in the comments as opposed to "1987" or "80s".
