I like to spread the pads / push caliper pistons back to get almost all the old fluid out before startinf the fill & bleed.

Tip... when doing this on the front brake on a k1200rs place a coin over the return hole in the reservoir or you will spray fluid all over your screen.

this was helpful. it confirms how i thought it should be done. I have a 2013 R1200RT. I didn't see any videos that were specific to that model. I watched a couple on driveshaft maintenance and replacement. they were helpful even though not for my specific model.

Thought you had to have GS911 to activate all the ABS 'whatevers' in the module?

I watched your other video where you flushed out the AbS pump 1st, then went to the calipers. The bike that I’m flushing, does not have that style of ABS pump, the bike in this video you went and flushed them traditionally. I see that the bike has ABS, sensor wire going to the wheel. Just making sure that it gets done night. Thanks BTW 2001 R1200c

Very nice, just what I needed it. Got a question, front break has two sides, do I need to bleed both sides? You only did one side. Thanks

This is the abs flush video. It’s not a old servo style like your thinking of.
@kwakas4ever
@kwakas4ever 3 жыл бұрын
I know the old servo system - I had an 1150RT and HATED it. Was told with LC was you used a GS911 or Motoscan tool to cycle ABS servo to remove old fluid from it....but obviously not. Ta for response.

@@kwakas4ever yes, not many people have a gs911 so I chose to leave that part out to show it can be done without any fancy tools. That tool cycles the pump to more/less just make sure everything is adequately blead.

What about the front right calliper and ABS pump?
@TheBMWGuy
@TheBMWGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Front left is the same procedure as the front right.. also the abs is a traditional style and doesn’t have bleed screws.

@@TheBMWGuy Thanks for the reply. When I do mine, I have a GS911 hooked into the comm port and it runs the ABS pump during a flush. This has always confused me somewhat. I assume that it is evacuating fluid out of the pump which then gets flushed through the bleeder at the calliper but I don’t know the system architecture well enough. I assume that it may not be necessary?
@Nomad-Drifter
@Nomad-Drifter Жыл бұрын
@@paulrenny8388 that’s the question that so many of us are looking for an answer to. I’m not spending £388 on a GS911 so I’ll just do a standard bleed. I assume the fluid circulates through the system so you would get new fluid to the pump but I’m not sure, if it does circulate then it’s an easy enough job with a one way valve to bleed again after a week or two. But like many of us I’m still not sure…

BMW Guy- Have a question. Been watching your videos ; I like 'em. Is there a significant difference, when doing a brake flush or rear drive oil change on a 2016 R1200GSW and a 2016 R1200RTW ? Let me know ,other than removal of skid plate what I have to look for.
@TheBMWGuy
@TheBMWGuy 3 жыл бұрын
no, none at all. just the obvious skid plate and on the RT it help to remove the left lower panel to access the oil filter

@joost1183
@joost1183 4 ай бұрын
It is a small percentace of fluid. You can do this every other year and do the abs module every 4 at a dealer or purchase yourself a motoscan/gs911.
@dadpantsmcdoc

Is there a need to (also) bleed the other front wheel caliper or is the amount of old fluid negligible?
@Enonymouse_
@Enonymouse_ 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on how long it's been sitting there, there likely places in the brake assembly where fluid stays captive until its been fully purged. Some models allow ABS assisted purge via GS911 or whatever the equivalent dealer grade code reader is, I know some use a snap-on brand.
