Fun Fact: During the scene where all the tanks fired on Godzilla, there were several Mitsubishi F-15J planes fired 12 missiles at Godzilla (all of which directly hit him) and he was completely unscathed. @@sho1oo my guy godzilla in 2000 was an anti hero himself, he's BOTH a villain and hero simultaneously. Saying "that's something the American godzilla will never get" makes no sense when we see godzilla killing humans on purpose in gvk and accidentally killing people in 2014/monarch. Godzilla as an anti hero has no regard for humans, he punishes us when he feels like it, not automatically like gojira or gmk. Godzilla IS an animal and monster simultaneously, many real life animals at times are called monsters rightfully or wrongfully. Pretty sure people called Gustave, a man eating croc who has no reason to eat people other than he could a monster due to his body count.

Sadly, despite Toho liking the script (except for Godzilla getting killed by the military in the middle of the film and is then cloned back to life, so it was changed to him just going to a coma), the sequel never got made due to the new studio head of Columbia not interested in $20 million films.

Godzilla 2000 brought some long needed comedy back and made it fun again. The Hesei serious was very serious in tone and style. So it was refreshing in a lot of ways. Yeah it had its problems, but i survived everything of the Shows series. So that wasn’t a Problem.

Saw Godzilla Minus One in the theaters today. I loved it and in my opinion, it is the best TOHO production. I even liked it more than the original. The human story in this one brought an actual tear to my eye. It was only available with subtitles. If they ever dub it, I hope the voice-over actors take it seriously and do it justice. The human story in this one really hit hard. Most of the human stories in past TOHO productions were just there, but never really interesting and sometimes made no sense. Even if Godzilla was not in this one, I think the human story would have been good on its own. - Possible Spoilers: - The CGI was excellent in this production. Godzilla actually looked alive and his eyes were well done. It looked like Godzilla could actually focus on individual humans. They also sized Godzilla back down closer to his original size. This allows better interaction between Godzilla and the humans. There are no other Kaijus for Godzilla to fight. This is truly back to the roots of the original Godzilla. He is no friend or protector of humanity. I do not recall Shin Godzilla too well only having seen it once. But I think the CGI in this was much better. I also liked how you could actually see Godzilla stomp on humans fleeing or using his tail or smashing buildings into people. None of the old stock footage of people running away with a Godzilla is obviously layered in the background. Godzilla Minus One is much cleaner. - There are some minor nitpicks and mostly just comes down to aesthetics. I am a bit torn on Godzilla's design in this one. On the one hand I love the CGI and how alive and real Godzilla looks in a TOHO production. The proportions seem a bit off to me, kind of reminds me of Charizard with the wider bottom portion (legs and thigh) and a smaller upper body. Not that Godzilla was not always a little thicker in the lower part of his body, but this design seems a bit more pronounced. In one scene when Godzilla was returning to the water, his clawed feet looked too big for the rest of him. That may have just been my perception though. - | do like how they did his nuclear breath(blast) in this one, it is different than his normal breath and seemed to cause a tactical nuclear explosion. I am a bit torn on how his spines pop out as he charges his breath and then pop back in when he releases it. I think I like the premise, but thought it looked and sounded a little weird how they did it. These are all very MINOR nitpicks. They did not detract from this film at all. The CGI is still a step behind the Hollywood versions, but not by much and the human story in Godzilla Minus One is the BEST human story in ANY Godzilla film, including the Hollywood monsterverse. I really hope one day we get a reaction from Brandon on this one. No Kennys, no silly side plots that have nothing to do with Godzilla. The human story is very much entwined with the Godzilla story and the actors in this were impeccable. I know this is a long comment on a KZfaq video. But I just came home from watching Godzilla Minus One and I just had to share. This is the only Godzilla review channel I have participated in. I am curious about other's thoughts who have seen it. Did you like the design of Godzilla? Did you feel the same about the Human story? Maybe you disagree with everything I said and think this is the worst production. I look forward to those who want to share. Just be kind and remember part of the fun of movies is how all of us may react differently to them.

I think it’s a Japanese cultural thing of not being able to discern ‘free promotion through fandom’s repurpose of IP’ from general ‘bootlegging’. Nintendo has been the same way for decades with anyone using footage of any of their games for any purpose whatsoever. I think only recently have they been more lenient with KZfaqrs posting gameplay.

Brandon, this was the second Japanese Godzilla film l went to see on the big screen. The first was the infamous 'Godzilla vs Megalon' in 1976. To celebrate the Japanese giving the finger to Roland Emmerich I threw a 'Godzilla's Back's' party, and then went to see this at a Drive-in. Good times. For the record... They made Godzilla look so different to show how you could alter his look while still being able to tell it was Godzilla!

Some things I still remember from when I first saw this when I was five or six years old: - When CG Godzilla was swimming, I thought for a second that he was flying, and it blew my mind - I ran out of the room when Godzilla stuck his head into Orga's mouth because I was scared he was going to die - I reached over the side of the chair and cried, "KATAGIRIIIIIIIII!!!", knowing even then that that was hilarious

I really liked this movie a lot, and it was one of the first ones where I actually liked the characters somewhat, mainly the main guy; the Government anti-Godzilla guy was kinda boss as well, however. And a fun fact -- In the US Commentary, which was done by the guys who wrote & directed the English Dub, they made a comment about the line: "Yeah... like Godzilla's normal," and pointed out that, while it was very much in line with their light-hearted writing, it was actually a near word-for-word translation of that line; it's actually the original Japanese line, so it seems they didn't alter the tone as much as one might think.

I do get what you’re saying when you said that this Godzilla design feels very late 90’s to the max but personally this is my favorite design for Godzilla. It gives off a very scary and intimidating look while also feeling very edgy and cool, and I absolutely adore the orange atomic breath. I can totally understand why it’s not your favorite design, but for me this design is GODZILLA.

I took my nephew to see G2000 when he was seven and I was thirty-two. We both had a blast. He's married with a son now and I am retired. We still ask each other, "Did you see that flying rock go by?" The Patton (crap through a goose) quote gets dropped a lot as well. Katagiri goes down like total boss in this one. The Director's Commentary on the DVD is stellar. It is the US director/editor and he speaks the entire time about shaping the movie, the changes they made, and about "shaking a movie" until six or seven minutes drops out. Great stuff!

I remember back when Godzilla 2000 was still new, one of the producers of the American version said he was throwing around the idea of collaborating with Toho to make an American-made sequel to the movie called "Godzilla Reborn." It would've used the same Godzilla suit from Godzilla 2000 and have him appear in Hawaii to fight Miba, a giant bat monster that emerges from a volcano. I remember him saying it was going to be an intentional tongue-in-cheek cult movie, wanting people like Bruce Campbell, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Sir Christopher Lee to appear in it, as well as have Steve Martin play a reporter named Raymond Burr. It obviously never happened, but to this day, I kinda wish it had.
