On March 28, 2024, Melissa Murray and Andrew Weissmann, coauthors of the new book The Trump Indictments, discussed the historic charges against the former president in a discussion moderated by Brennan Center President Michael Waldman. Murray is the Frederick I. and Grace Stokes Professor of Law Faculty and director of the Birnbaum Women’s Leadership Center at NYU Law. Weissmann, a professor of practice at NYU Law and a legal analyst for MSNBC, previously served as general counsel to the FBI and one of the senior prosecutors on Robert Mueller’s Trump-Russia investigation.

That was absolutely superb. I am so grateful to the Brennan Center. I attended a conference called the Promise and Limits of State Constitutions about two months ago and it was excellent. And sold out! (Not literally, because it was free.) I am also a proud alumna of NYU School of Law. Well done!!

In my humble opinion and sad to say SCOTUS has fracture and Jack Smith has given SCOTUS the final chance to SCOTUS to validate its foundation as protector of LAW and Order and their final verdict on presidential immunity will determine whether SCOTUS still valid or if necessary, once and for all put to shame.

Just an observation, not a slight, the people who could benefit the most from watching this & reading the book are so entrenched in the falsities they've been bombarded with repeatedly won't se it or read it. They are so entrenched in their misbeliefs they find ways to convince themselves the truth is the lie.
@vcw245
@vcw245 2 ай бұрын
True, however folks watching or reading the book may be able to reach people who’re not hard core MAGA, people I think aren’t worth wasting time attempting to persuade or convince. On the other hand you might be in a position to engage in a discussion with people who’re still open to new/different information and are persuadable, or in a group discussion where they’re present. It’s definitely worth expending energy talking with those folks.

The impotence of the impeachment process led us to hope that the justice system would take the lead. But now we hear pushback from some about how the justice system should not step in where the Congress has already declared its opinion. It is a catch 22.

Politico August 27, 2022: “The U.S. intelligence community will evaluate the potential national security risks stemming from former President Donald Trump’s possession of top-secret documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence,” Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines told top lawmakers. In a letter obtained by POLITICO and dated Friday, Haines told House Oversight Committee Chair Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) and House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) that her office will lead an “assessment of the potential risk to national security that would result from the disclosure of the relevant documents.” To date Haines has not provided to Congress any information regarding the results of the damage assessment.

I am confused - what is scheduled for the end of October? I thought the presidential immunity oral arguments before the Supreme Court were scheduled for later this April??
@jeremiahchamberlin4499
@jeremiahchamberlin4499 2 ай бұрын
The arguments will be heard on the last day possible of the current term. The earliest they could return a verdict is June. But if they don’t get to it by then, it will have to wait until after the summer break -October. Point is, they could have gotten to it a lot earlier, if they had a mind to; or, as pointed out in the discussion, they could simply have passed, and let the district court’s ruling stand.

What I don't understand is why there is so little security around these documents that they could end up in boxes and no one in the security departments did not raise an alarm that docs were missing? Seems like incredibly slopping tracking for such important documents.
