He needs to be extremely relaxed and confident to play this level of tennis, and that's a very complex mindset to maintain throughout a career. That level of smoothness is just great, that's the physical evolution we're going for.

In a good day Fabio can play (and win) vs (almost) anyone but I don't agree with people who believe that just the crazy head is the problem, sure with a "normal" head he would have a better career (probably top ten with some exploit in Slam and 1000) but it's the serve (not the first ball but rather the second) the real weakness. Anyway see him hit the ball indifferently with forehand or backhand it's spectacular, few players have the ability to hit so early (often with arm-speed only) and volée also is good; he is a talented player. Sry for "eng".
@alessandrochirchiglia80095 жыл бұрын
with a good serve he would be in the top 10
@mikefox32585 жыл бұрын
I agree, his second serve is nearly as bad as Andy Murray's. But I think he would be a top 10 player consistently (or would have been in his younger years) with a solid mental game. Too often, he seems to lose concentration and has little interest.
@astonm.81735 жыл бұрын
Everybody who has seen this vid and looks at his achievements knows he is a serious underachiever, capable of just a brilliant match here and there at Slams.
@loquendo9805 жыл бұрын
Nadal achieved the no. 1 with a very bad serve, that in the tough matches against a great server like Federer turned into a huuuge disadvantage, and even more in hard and grass courts. So probably with more composure he could have been at least top 5 surely.
@loquendo9805 жыл бұрын
Been in the Cordoba Open in Argentina a couple of days ago and watched Fognini throwing the match from the very beginning of the match, he was received like he was in Italy and he didn't even put a miserable piece of effort, he was anchored to the ground. And he was playing against Aljaz Bedene, an easy match with a bit of attitude, and yes, he served bad indeed but when you have zero concentration/motivation/call it what you want you will play worse, and that affects also your serve.

@The_Great_One5 жыл бұрын
Body serve was jamming Nadal a lot forcing these down the middle returns. It's not a bad play anyway, it cuts off the opponent creating angles easier. Djokovic does this all the time. Fognini was just up to the task that day.

@brucegardalake18695 жыл бұрын
Nadal was constantly taking the ball too late, expecially with his forehand, because of Fognini's lightning-fast shots. With a similar hitting condition, you've to give him credit for mostly being able to keep the ball in game, despite being so often forced to hit extremely late. He was mostly directing his shots to the centre, just in order to try containing his forced errors. It was just a "survive or not" game. Probably he only hoped to survive till Fognini lowered his level of play. He proved wrong that day, but this type of game saved his matches so many times.

He looks like he's not bending his legs, and in fact he bend them very little, but his feet load is actually rock-solid. And when he has to run, he's very, very quick. He's actually a far better athlete than most can think, and has got awesome body balance. He's almost never off balance while he hits the ball, just wipping that lightning-fast arm with complete smoothness (reminds a lot Federer in this ability). This helps a lot in being so accurate

min. 06:43 Only when you access a certain mind-body dimension are you able to hit like that, I believe that if Fognini had played the lottery that day he would have won! :) Crazy, how the hell did he get out of a situation like that? the disadvantage was incredible, I think we should study those moments scientifically, it happens, I remember a Champions League final, Milan-Liverpool, with Milan winning 3 to 0 seemed to have the game in the safe, instead Liverpool in 4 minutes equalized, for then win after penalties, I believe that the escaped danger releases substances that probably resemble a sort of turbo, it is as if it went automatically, the mind is completely aligned with the intentions and with the body, a certain well-being is perceived outside the Normally, a divine connection!
