I shot pins for 25 years. Bought the EZV and love it. Take the time (which does take much) set it up like the instructions say and it's amazing how easy it is to shoot. And the pin chart makes it easy to figure out which insert to use.

Been shooting my EZV for 3 years now.. It does take a little time to trust framing the V. The best thing is to shoot at an actual 3D target for what you will be hunting. When I switched to doing that it just clicked in my head and going from my small doe 3D target to my large GlenDel Rut buck if I'm within 50yds I will always get a double lung or heart shot. Past 50yds you should still be using a range finder. When I change up arrow setups and have to re-sight I will take two neon dots and put them 13" apart on my 3D target. That way I know where I'm needing to frame the V and even if I'm off by 2-3" on my width I'm still hitting within 2-3" vertically so I'm still in the kill zone out to around 50yds. Hope that makes sense lol.. Good luck this year man!!

It's an awesome sight. I shot 3 deer with the 220fps insert and a 700 grain arrow from 20-43 yards with mine last year. The 43 yard shot I did not range until after I shot the deer, it works. It does take practice for your brain to learn the appropriate spacing, you need to shoot it everyday until that spacing is burned into your brain. It's almost like a hybrid instinctive shooting. Don't think about framing the vitals perfectly, you were on the right track when you had a bit of space around the plate. Pick the point you want to shoot then frame the spot and shoot. Don't focus on the edges of the v, focus on the point. You will hit it.

@@TheBudgetSportsman your brain learns the spacing on any type of target. I shoot both 3D deer targets and the same block you are shooting in the video. Good Video. You should do a follow up video after 4-500 arrows. I have one and if you let the idea of grouping arrows go. And just think of a shot hitting the vitals I have found it works really well. I stopped caring about how close the arrows were together. I always had the tick marks showing. I never used a range finder with mine once it was set with the correct insert. I at one point took my peep out and could still hit with it.
@TheBudgetSportsman
@TheBudgetSportsman 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t understand why I would let go of the idea of grouping. I want to be able to precisely place my arrow into the vitals. “Anywhere in the vitals” is not good enough for me. If I’m not grouping well that means I’m not hitting where I want to be hitting. If I get through 500 arrows with the EZV without switching back I’ll definitely do a follow up video.

Its such an interesting concept. As I am getting older, the pins are starting to glow and get bigger. I now wear reading glasses. What I find with the EZ V is that I found the tick marks to be to small and too close together. So I flipped the sight around, made my own with a sharpe. 0-40 I am very accurate. ON A 3D target that is close to the deer I am going to shoot. I primarily chase mature bucks. So any deer I am going to shoot is going to fit that diameter of the 12-13" circle. Where I struggle is past 50yds. Most of the deer I shoot are 25yds and under. The marks I added are like guardrails. I added a sharpe mark for 20-40-50. I use the V in conjunction with the marks. I have 2 targets. One is large. One is small. Does I am shooting 20yds and under. So I know, with the marks I made, 20yds is easy to see. Guardrails. Just a way to double check. I have tested, the biggest struggle? Hard Hard quartered away. Because the deer target is less than 13" wide. I loved my pin sites. Never had troubles. But what I am seeing now? The 40-50pins are starting to glow together. Single pin was ht other option. I just dont like the idea of a moveable site. Just my 2 cents

I have this sight, and I will say that while I really like it, it's much more difficult to use it on dots than it is to use it on anything animal shaped. I keep the tick marks on my side because that helps shooting at my archery club, but the V does help a lot for gapping.

Further to your point about removing the sight rings, if you use small length of 550 cord, and wrap it around the sides of the V, you can firmly but slowly pull the ring out without damaging it.

I struggle shooting at dots with my EZV but I shoot much better with it than a pin sight at a deer target. I also missed high at first. One thing that really helped me when I first started shooting the EZV was to purposefully aim high, start with the bottom of the V on the vitals and slowly lower your aiming point until the vitals line up in the V correctly. Be careful with this because it can increase target panic when your sight lines up. After a couple of days practicing this way i was shooting better than I ever have.

Personally, I think you are right about the target diameter this system was calculated for. Seems there's always a big circle in the promotional vids. A 12-15" diameter kill zone leeway? is way to large IMO except for possibly an elk. I prefer to keep my shots within a 5" diameter kill zone radius. And that's at like 40-45 yards. Smaller at 25-35 yards. I also believe it's probably like any tool- more use and you get to know how to use it. I like the idea of being able to clearly see the animal. This might be very advantageous in very low light situations. The ones where your not sure of where the pin is on the side of the animal. I don't know- just have to practice in those conditions.
@TheBudgetSportsman

I measured the target that comes with the sight and it’s approximately a 13” circle. That doesn’t mean that I will have 13” groups, that’s just the size that the v is calibrated to. If you properly frame up 13” you can still have tight groups in the middle. The issue is actually framing up an imaginary 13” circle when none is present. I’m quite sure that with some use I would get better at it, just not sure how it would translate from a block target to a deer.

@@TheBudgetSportsman the only way to describe how to shoot this sight with out tick marks is to just stare at the spot you want to hit. Try this the next time you shoot it. To focus only on the spot you want to hit. Don t focus on the tick marks only on your spot and send it. Trust your vision and your form and everything. It's exactly the same concept as shooting a pin sight just not covering your mark you want to hit. So I still shoot tick marks after a year don't focus on your tick marks. Once you actually trust the sight and spend time with it tick marks or not big animal or small you will be able to kill them all. Lol sorry had to ryhme. The more open mind the better you shoot. I'm shooting this site WAY better than a single pin BUT after 15 yrs. shooting I was caught "off-guard" with "target panic." (Self inflicted as I constantly tried to produce tighter and tighter shots year after year. Took a LONG time to figure out my problem: Pin float cannot be controlled but my mind along with ageing eyes and a SAS verifier/fuzzy pins was trying lol/col.) With this site, target panic disappeared almost instantly & shooting is FUN AGAIN!!!!! Extremely "calming" to shoot! FYI & IMO: The trick to using the EZ-V is being able to "guestimate" a 9 in. sphere at different distances. ~ At least that's what is working for me, but that's always what I've done in the field. (Even with my single pin sites on dovetails)..... IF you can do that, it's got serious hunting potential. Shooting @ 40 yards and less, I think the EZ-V's benefits WAY outweigh it's shortcomings. I know Aaron suggests a larger "sphere" which resembles a BIG deer. But for the same reasons you mentioned, I think that's a mistake. (For me, all the reference points surrounding any size animal help my mind "guestimate" a smaller 9 in. sphere which can be adapted for ANY size animal including a turkey.)

Don't worry about the size of the animal. Just remember where the vitals are, we all know where the vitals are, or at least we better. Frame where the vitals are and send it, you will hit exactly where you're bow is sighted. The vitals are generally about the same size (11-13 inches) regardless of the size of the deer, unless you are shooting fawns.
@TheBudgetSportsman
@TheBudgetSportsman Жыл бұрын
I’m happy if it works for you. It does not work for me. Your own explanation used a 2” difference in vital size to indicate they are the same. The difference in aiming at an 11” target or a 13” target will change the point of impact.
@lovejoy1230
@lovejoy1230 Жыл бұрын
@@TheBudgetSportsman I agree there may be a subtle change in impact with an 2 inch change. However, it is maybe an vertical difference in impact. This sight is designed to range a target at unknown distance. Not to be compared to shooting dots at known distances. I'd bet if you put if you shoot at a 3d target rather than circles you'll find that you'll be more accurate with the EZV. Meaning side by side comparison, at a 3d target at unknown distances. Of course it may not be as accurate as a pin when you know the exact range. But if you truly don't know the distances with your pins vs not knowing the distance with the EZV. I think you'd out shoot the pins with the EZV. I know I do... The real difference lies in this. Given a real hunting situation with some elevation changes and actual unknown distances. I don't think you've given it a due chance yet. Your comparing it to pins that you shoot at known distances. Take it to a 3D range where you don't actually don't know the distances and then do the same with pins and see how you do. I'll bet you come out ahead with the EZV. We are not as good at judging distance at crunch time as we think we are. I can shoot the black out of a circle all day with pins if you give me a range finder. But take away the range finder and make me judge distance at a target in the woods with shadows and elevation changes and I'm not nearly as surgical, I even miss targets that way. But I am in the kill zone nearly everytime with the EZV. Hope that makes sense.
@TheBudgetSportsman
@TheBudgetSportsman Жыл бұрын
Brother you’re not the first person to try to convince me I’m wrong. I don’t trust it. I won’t take something to the woods I don’t trust. I have a good friend who is a great archer and regularly kills deer. The roughest season I’ve ever seen him have was the year he took the EZV to the woods. My biggest issue with EZV is that if you are framing the vitals, you are aiming too far back. I want my arrow tucked up close to the leg. Again I’m thrilled it works for you, but I’m convinced that people have different ways their brain works. For some this sight is the best thing ever. For others, it just doesn’t work.
@lovejoy1230
@lovejoy1230 Жыл бұрын
@@TheBudgetSportsman 100% agree that you have to trust it and if you do not, don't use it. I am in no way trying to argue or convince you you're wrong, but trying to provide some insight in the mental challenge of switching to a sight like this. But you have to have an open mind to change and the way you approach it. That said, I am very familiar to stadiametric ranging from my time in the military. Snipers use this same technology for leads and hold overs for precision shooting at long distances. I keep my arrows tucked to the leg also. Just like any pin sight, point of impact can be adjusted by adjusting the sight and keeping the same framing picture, so that is not a reason to not use the EZV. I ordered an insert without any tick marks as I don't trust them as much as I trust my brain. The tick marks just made me question distance. I would frame the vitals and see the tick marks and start questioning, no way that is nearly 40 yds, that would make me adjust the aim down... and every time I would shoot low. It's a matter of trusting the sight will do the work, just frame it and send it. Hence, I have not tick marks on my insert any longer. However, if it doesn't work for you, well then it doesn't work for you. Let me ask you this, when you are hunting are you always 100% confident of the distance you are shooting and which pin to aim with? With the EZV, I never question distance or which pin. Just frame the vitals and let her rip! Takes many factors out of the equation for me.

I like simple at crunch time (no multiple pins or sliding pin for me). I really thought I would like the EZ V sight, & I shot it for 3 months last summer. In the end, I went back to my single fixed vertical pin. I never felt comfortable with my vertical groupings with the EZ V. Visualizing a basketball on a deer just added another variable that really didn't improve my shooting. A single fixed pin sighted in @ 25-30 yards and aiming a little high @ 35+ just works better for me. I shoot at unknown distances when practicing, because that's hunting. In all fairness to the EZ V, three months of hard practice with it was competing with 30+ years of hunting with a single fixed pin (or crosshair sight). I tried the EZ V with the check marks, without the checkmarks, and making my own 20 & 40 yard only checks marks on the blank side. In the end, I still shot a single fixed pin better at unknown distances. I never became comfortable with my vertical groupings at unknown distances, & that should be the strength of using the EZ V sight. I may be an example of teaching an old dog a new trick, however!

I own one because it was given to me 😊 I often wish I have a newer bow but the charger is nice and light and I shoot it reasonably well.

Yea I still don’t get how this thing works. This is probably the third time I’ve heard it explained and still don’t understand

You’re way overthinking this sight. Learn to trust your brain. It is never wrong. When you start second guessing yourself is when the issues begin.

I’m convinced the reason some people love the EZV and some don’t are because we don’t all have the same brain. I tried shooting again and “trusting my brain” and it was frequently wrong. I’m incredibly consistent with known distances and the marks but as soon as I try to frame anything my consistency goes out the window.

Ditto this. I just switched to the ezv about a month ago. I’ve been using the marks as I get used to it, but this past weekend shot at a 3d pop up tournament. Fast paced, no time to think about ranting the targets so i ahead to shoot instinctively. Outside of the fact that I didn’t get 2 arrows nocked in time which dinged my score horribly with the zeros, I was shocked at how well I shot when I had to just hurry up, aim, and shoot. I know I overthink the pin sight and struggle to focus clearly with it, so swapping to the ezv has actually helped my shooting out on a couple of levels. That said, I will be working with it constantly over the coming months to learn to fully trust it without ranging an animal before I hunt without a rangefinder! 😉it may also help that I’m only a few years into archery and bow hunting, so my journey is still very much in a discovery phase of sorts, figuring out what works for me and what doesn’t.

Shoot some quartering shots. You'll throw that in the garbage. I did

Well it’s not mine so I don’t think I’ll throw it in the garbage 😉

That’s insulting to imply that someone didn’t take the time to learn it. I firmly believe everybody’s brain processes this site differently
