My name is David and with my dog Lefty we live full time in our ambulance conversion RV. I made this change to my life and you can too! Like, subscribe and comment - Lefty would appreciate it - he wants the adventures to keep coming!
The Campulance is a 2002 Ford E450 Marque Commando 164 Class III ambulance powered by the Ford 7.3l Powerstroke turbo diesel engine and a 4 speed 4R100 transmission. Lefty is a 65lb Staffordshire Terrier (best I can tell) that came from the Verona Street Animal Shelter in March 2014 at the age of 9 months. We have been living full time in the campulance since July 2019.

I have been using a 5k to heat my 32 foot Fleetwood class A that my wife and I full time in for 4 years now. We are on our second one now, the first one went for two winters and over 4500 hours of use before the fan motor bearings started to go bad. We are halfway through our second winter with our newest one and its working great. I completely agree with what your saying, there's just nothing better to heat your rv than one of these inexpensive Chinese heaters.

1:49 I raised many UKC Pits and they all more or less acted like Lefty. Pits and Staffs are wonderful companions. They are brave and will die protecting their owner(s) / family if that ever becomes necessary. They are intelligent. They are clown princes. However, they are extremely strong, high-octane dogs and unless you have the patience, strength, and ability to burn off their energy with a lot of exercise, they can overwhelm and dominate you. They are not beginner dogs. David is very good at keeping Lefty under control and burning off Lefty's massive amounts of energy by keeping Lefty well-exercised and attended to.

You have a diesel truck, correct? What if I have a gasoline car? Would I have to have the tank like you originally had on the back? I have a travel trailer.
@TheCampulanceMan
@TheCampulanceMan 2 жыл бұрын
Great question - not necessarily, they make gasoline versions of these heaters or you can use the small tank and mount it in an outside enclosed cabinet. I've seen that done successfully. There are also all in one versions that have the tank built in with the heater and they can be mounted on the rear bumper or a hitch carrier.

@@TheCampulanceMan I wonder if a gasoline heater would still be safe compared to using diesel. I am concerned about excess fumes inside the trailer by using either type. I know you said to open a window. Still concerns me. Thanks for the quick reply.
@TheCampulanceMan
@TheCampulanceMan 2 жыл бұрын
@@pokergypsy55 I'd lean towards a diesel because it's not (as) flammable. Neither will have fumes in the vehicle when installed correctly. The connections are outside of the rig and the mount is sealed with a thick rubber gasket. I've never smelled fumes inside from the heater - I leave the window open so it doesn't get too warm :)

Lefty looks scary when he makes certain faces at you but now that I have seen him being playful it’s like he has been well taken care of and his daddy must have trained him so Lefty minds his master most of the time. Some of your nomenclature are a bit confusing to me so it’s a good thing you add them to your Amazon otherwise I would need help with learning how to interpret you’re meaning while explaining parts for your diesel heater. 👍

These Chinese heaters are clones of the Eberspaecher D2 for the smaller 2k heaters and the Eberspaecher D4 for the 5 and 8 k heaters, many of the parts are actually interchangeable with them.
@TheCampulanceMan

Well, the main difference is cost as you said. Also you're not going to get the support like you would from the big names, but at the price you could but 9 or 10 of these for the same price as 1... Functionally they are the same.

You should check with RV repair shops and also smaller repair shops. They may do it or know someone that will do it for you. They're not difficult to install for a shop.

I have a diesel 2000 Wabasto in my extended high roof Transit van. It seems to be plenty but I'm not chasing freezing temperatures and the van is insulated like a walk-in cooler. Does the 5000 ever seem like overkill?
@TheCampulanceMan

I think it's just right. It will cycle up and down to maintain the temp when we've seen 25 degree temps - that's telling me it's not overkill (non scientific reasoning) :)

The heater exhaust exits under the truck and out to the side right next to the trucks exhaust pipe. There's no fumes produced inside the truck from it so there's no ventilation required.

Good video and appreciate the promotion of diesel heaters. The only issue, there is no such thing as an 8Kw heater only 2Kw and 5Kw. You swapped a 5Kw for another 5Kw heater. The 8Kw is a marketing ploy that tricks the consumer into thinking they're getting a bigger heater. I know it may have 8Kw listed on the heater but it's actually a 5Kw. Many times the 8Kw will have a higher cost but don't fall for the hype. A controller upgrade for any diesel heater is the Afterburner made by a gentleman in Australia and I've heard nothing but good things about it. Here's the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iJeGrMirmda5o2Q.html And finally i know you're a technical geek so here's a KZfaq link to the diesel heater expert John Mckay 47 channel. He has a 12 part series explaining everything you need to know about diesel heaters.Finally if the time comes you need to replace your heater again look at the Lavaner heater. A little more money ($200.00 range) but way better quality. Stay warm!!
