A lot of the modern car features I can appreciate and understand why they changed but many changes like electric parking brake, electric lift gate, panoramic roof, big rims and low profile tires and many others. They keep trying to fix things that are not broken making the vehicle much more complicated and much much more expensive to maintain and repair!

I went out and bought a 2022 SR utility package (no rear seats) 4 cylinder precisely because I wanted to get a taco before they changed it. I wanted simplicity and reliability above all else. I got 2022 because at that time we weren’t sure if the 2023 was going to be 4th gen. Either way I’m sure the 2023 is more expensive given inflation so I’m happy I bought sooner than later. I switched from a 2000 impala so to me the 3rd gen is like a spaceship compared to the tech I was used to. If you care about reliability get a new 3rd gen while you still can. Only time will tell if the 4th gen is going to be good.

I have a 2022 TRD Off Road and I have absolutely love it. Aside from some minor suspension differences it is almost identical to the Pro. I love the simplicity. It just simply works and works well. It is a truck where so many trucks today try so hard to be like a car. Total truck DNA. I plan to have this truck for a long time. Every vehicle has “common problems”. More technology typically means more things to go wrong and more cost to repair or replace. The Tacoma’s common issues are minor and very easy to deal with. Old school is best because it works. Great review. Thanks for reaffirming my decision. Love your videos. I watch every one.

I just found your page. Thanks for your attention to detail & your review of all of the systems here. This is the most complete review that I've found so far. After logging almost 300,000 miles on my 2004 Tundra, LTD, TRD, Double Cab, 4.7 Liter V8 it has been a champ. All of the accessories still work, but it is suffering frame rot even though it was involved in the Tundra frame recall campaign a few years ago & was sand blasted & re-undercoated, it rusted from the inside-out. My mechanic won't put it on his lift anymore, so it's time to move it on. At 73, I'm over the "bells & whistles" phase of my life & just want economical, basic, durable, long lasting transportation, so I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of my 2023 Tacoma SR base level access cab, 6' bed, 3.7 liter, 4 cylinder, A/T truck. I chose the 4×4 drive because I live in the hilly Western Franklin County, Western Massachusetts at the base of the Birkshires. Your review has convinced me that I made the right choice. I look forward to many years of reliable driving. You have a new subscriber. Keep up the good work. Can you recommend a high quality hard tonneau cover for the bed?

Their trucks are probably one of the best in the automotive market! I've got a 1993 pick-up 4X4 that I bought with 6 miles on it from the dealer and still own it today. It turns 30 years old this year and is what you call "Old School" with crank windows, manual locking, nothing you push a button to accomplish a task. Great truck with one problem, and it has a hard time passing smog with it normally failing in the Nitrogen Oxides NO2 level for California. Any where else they are considered safe. Anyway you've a great channel here and love looking through them to see if you cover any issues that have arisen with my 3 Toyotas and one Lexus. I thank you you for this!

Wow!! that's amazing! When I saw the 2016 video of the TRD Pro release, I knew I had to have it. I was leasing a BMW 3 series and knew I wanted to purchase a vehicle that was reliable and wasn't going to cost me an arm and a leg to repair later on down the line. I turned in the BMW lease early, I was penalized but it was worth it. I purchased my 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro(Cement) June 2017 from the dealer with 10 miles on it and have not had issues with it at all. I plan on keeping it for ages.

Everything you mentioned about the Pro is right on, by the way it drives on road and all of its features. I got the 2023 because of what you said about the 4 runner engine being so reliable with all the updates and improvements. It’s that way with the 2GR FKS V6 in the Tacoma, all the little issues have been addressed and should be very reliable. To take a saying from you, owning a 2023 TRD Pro is great and life is good. I have a feeling I might hate the accumulator thingy. My view. Buy 2019 - 2022 now, or wait 3 - 4 years for a new one. It took the consumer and Toyota 3 years to sort out the current generation of Tacoma. Don't expect a shorter time frame to fix problems on a more complicated engine. Good review - am in the market for a 'new or recently used' truck now. This information helps.

Really good review. In a lot of ways I think I picked the Tacoma over the Ranger because of the reliability and resale value. Overall the quality and design is good. I actually like the simplicity of the dash layout that to me blends a modern screen with classic gages. Large climate control knobs I can use with gloves on are excellent. The interior is actually very comfortable for a truck. I have a 2020 SR5 4X4. I still have an old school security chip key. I feel like with the power seat and the android auto it still feels modern enough for me. I really plan to keep mine a very long long time.

Resale value is for Dealerships. You try trading it in, you’ll get a below blue book price then when they “resell” it, they get a good resale value.
@MrMikey1273
@MrMikey1273 Жыл бұрын
@Mikey you're so brilliant! Of course if I trade it the dealership will make money they always do. Thats what trade in value is and why its a bit lower than retail. You such are such a genius. The other side of this you may not realize is the trade in value on a Tacoma is higher than many other vehicles, like a Chevy or Dodge. In these crazy economic times carfax has my trade in value at about what I paid retail in 2020. I know that these times are exceptional but past history is that tacomas hold value, both retail and trade in, well.

I guess it depends on the kind of person you are. Some people trade their phones in every year. These “tech whores” are something I can’t relate to, not that I’m judging them. I kept my 2000 impala over twenty years and went to a 2022 taco. I cannot understand what state of the art features people are “needing” in their cars. We are becoming a nation of spoiled brats who don’t know how to experience anything other than maximum comfort and honestly that’s scary.
@MrMikey1273

@CarlYota I understand that. I planned to keep my Tacoma for 10 years or more. My last vehicle I had for 12 years. Reliability is really important and care if you want to keep it a long time. We are good there. Resale well... I can't predict if I'm gonna get hit by some nimrod driver and my truck get totalled. At least the valve doesn't sink like a rock or a Kia. So I'll get more to put towards a replacement vehicle.

Although I'm not someone who plans on selling my Tacoma after I get it, I still like knowing that it holds its resale value very well. If something happens financially and I need to sell the Taco in 5 years or something, I'll know that I'll end up with a bunch of equity out of the sale due to how well these hold value. On top of that, the reliability of Tacomas are incredible, especially in the later years of a generation. Either way I go (sell in 5-10 years or keep it till it dies), I'll be sitting pretty.

I have the OR version with some of the key upgrades that bring the spec to the level of the Pro (exhaust and interior, with my own Bilstein 6112 and 5160 suspension with a 1" lift- keeping it close to daily driver-tude). Sometimes simpler is better if it is still a solid, quality build, and I have to say driving mine everywhere is really excellent. The manual brake comes in handy when going offroad, descents or keep the truck from sliding back, or even on the boat ramp I use the manual break with 4 low when the ramp is steep or covered in slippery algae its like worse than ice. I agree about the knobs instead of levers for selecting 4 low or locking rear diff.. I think very very few still have it.. like the Brit made Deffender that has a manual levers for front and rear dif lockers. But they do not ship them to the states, and costs double the Taco TRD pro is the INEOS Grenadier. made like the old Defender.. old school.

I bought an 88 Yugo. You can't beat the reliability and the price. Great cars.

88 Yugo? Really? I remember a dealership or maybe a manufacturer offered if you buy a car, you get a yugo for free. Couldn’t remember if it was Cadillac or who offered that back then.

This Toyota is a great truck. I opted for the Nissan Frontier Pro 4x because it kept some old school with simplicity, some analog clusters but does also have a lot of modern features.

New Frontier has just enough tech to be current, but not annoying.

22-23 years ago, I might have considered a Nissan but ever since Renault bought Nissan, their reliability took a nosedive. It’s a shame really

Got a new SR5. Main attractions for me were - key ignition - manual parking brake - naturally aspirated v6 engine, no turbo 4 banger - no technology package or extra stuff to break - last model year reliability - looks good imo Wanted leather, so I bought some clazzio seat covers and that's it. I love it. I think it's got the new stuff where I want it (nice screen and bluetooth to play music without aux cable), but is otherwise basic, as a truck should be..

Does it have that " engine shut off " BS or the option to select standard cruise ?
@LateNightYinzer

@@indycharlie Nope. The engine only shuts off when you turn the key counterclockwise.

@@LateNightYinzer 😂🤣😂.... Hmm ... let's see ... righty- tighty ... lefty- loosesy .... got it ! The reason I asked , is because I bought a 22 SR 2wd 2.7 in May of last year as a stop gap , when the frame of my 2002 Tundra's frame was done . It caught me so off guard and needing a vehicle , NOW!. And with used being within 3-4 K of New , and the 2wd being the only Taco on the lot . I bought it . I thought the salesman told me the base SR was the only Taco that came with a key , and . The BS " engine shut-off " was coming on all 2023 Taco's ?! I assume your SR5 has the " hold in " the CRUISE button , to select standard cruise control , as does my SR ?Thanks for the replay and the information about how yours " turns off " ... gubs
