I didn't notice it until about halfway through the video, but I like the filming method using the green lighting on the background. It makes objects in the foreground really pop. Keep up the great work. I am currently shopping for a new car (I am leaning toward a Honda Pilot, but... $$$), and I love these videos. They help out so much.

I don’t quite understand why you don’t understand why someone would want a CX 90 with only two rows. This is exactly what we’d want! A large SUV with large cargo space instead of a third row. We’re empty nesters who like road trips. More cargo space is what we need.

I don't have children. At most, with friends, I would have 5 people in my car and that's incredibly rare. But I'm a skier and will often drive 2 or 3 of us with a ton of gear on 6 hour road trips. While currently driving a CX-5, those are the times I wish I had more cargo space. That's what makes the CX-70 so tempting for me. If more than 5 people are going somewhere, we can just take a second car. Folding down a third row means there's still a third row taking up valuable space. Even having removable seats doesn't work for me with very limited space to store them. Sure, I wish the 70 offered unique styling and lower pricing than the 90, but it's understandable why they did it this way.
@Ramoono

The whole reason I got the 70, I have no use at all for a third row but I can definitely use the space, and I like the feel of the big car. I also understand the naming, it’s for a different audience, makes it easier to search and talk about
@dondonaldson1684
@dondonaldson1684 14 күн бұрын
That is the demographic they are going for. But price it accordingly. They are using the "remove third row option" to increase margin. There is still a path forward and that is to introduce a CX60 which is a two row, and in between the size of this and the CX50. I think they came out with this as a large two row premium SUV and didn't want to have to retool all new chassis and interior components. Mazda has to reuse as much of their designs as possible to economize. After all, they aren't the size of Toyota.

As someone who wants a cx-70 I will explain the difference to me. First it has a sportier look nicer wheels and less chrome compared to the 90. Also I only have 2 kids so I don’t need a 3rd row. But we do take trips and have a dog so we need the cargo room. For me it’s perfect. Also the 70 doesn’t have the cloth stitching on the dash like the 90 does. Lastly getting a floor mat for the back is easier since it’s only one size. If there was a third row it would make the mat either too small or it would have to be rolled up. Anyway. Looking forward to getting one soon. Great review

I wouldn’t need the third row ever, I’ve considered this to replace my CX50. We store a lot of stuff in the trunk lol especially a massage table since my wife does mobile massage and we need all the space possible. That table never leaves and we shop at Costco pretty often. Might be most ideal for us unlike other families lol It might have more room to negotiate on price too since most people will get the CX 90.

Great review as always . Personally I don’t see an issue with CX-70 having only two rows , grand Cherokee, Subaru Outback and 4Runner are similar size vehicles and come in two rows of seats. The only vehicles that have a usable 3rd row are minivans or very large SUV’s , I just don’t see the point of a 3rd row where only small children can sit. I would pick CX 70 over CX 90.

There is one very simple reason why Mazda saw fit to create a new model designation for the CX-90 without a third row: in the US auto market, there are almost no SUVs offered with 2 or 3 rows of seating. An automaker is more inclined to offer two different models than one model with both options.

Me and my wife just bought one and it’s just us. We find ourselves hauling large stuff from time to time and really wanted a big car without feeling like we’re in a soccer mom car. This does have a more sporty look to it compared to the CX-90 and we fell absolutely in love with the melting copper paint on the turbo s premium trim. Now, we have been eyeing down this car before the reveal and we were disappointed in it being the exact same size as the CX-90 because we did hope for something on the smaller end (CX-60 size would have been perfect), but it’s so fun to handle and doesn’t feel as big as it actually is when it comes to the driving dynamics. I know they left the cup holders in the back, which I also initially gave crap about, but I actually think they’re useful and why not? Better than open space when you already have such a large trunk. I also find all the storage space amazing for organizing the car underneath for where the 3rd row would have been. Overall, I’m really happy with the purchase (first Mazda owner) and I’m excited to see what they’ll do next with the line up for upcoming models.

"Why would anyone buy a two row large SUV?" - AMD, I can answer that question because that's exactly what I'm going to do. My wife and I are close to 60 years old and have no kids. We do, however, have two medium sized (60 lbs) dogs. The dogs go with us everywhere so we need a vehicle that can carry two dogs crates side by side in the cargo area and still have room for suitcases, a cooler, extra dog crates for the hotel, event site, camp site,, etc. in the 2nd row (which we always fold down flat). Right now I have a minivan, but am looking for a vehicle with a nicer build, more luxury, and more tech. The next vehicle I get will be a new GX 550 (when dealers have available stock) - specifically the 2 row Overtrail trim. So, while I may not represent a large percentage of the population, just know that there are still quite a few people like me that consider a 3rd row to be a negative, even if they can be folded down. Because when folded down, the third row still occupies cargo space that I'd rather have. Oh, and as for resale value, when you keep vehicles for 10 years and 150,000+ miles like I do the difference in resale value between a 3 row and 2 row SUV is negligible.

I drive a vehicle with a third row, and I've never had passengers in that row. I keep those seats flat, so that I can have more storage. If I could have bought my particular vehicle without a third row, I would have rather done that. I may be in the minority, but I prefer the larger SUV without a third row. As far as pricing, I agree with Car Care Nut.

I think you're missing the point of the car and all the different use cases/lifestyles where more cargo space is desirable vs a third row. I have been waiting for the CX-70 since I heard it was on it's way and I knew the only change would be the lack of third row. It's a thousand bucks cheaper per model designation and I don't need to spend a grand on rear seats I'll never use. Essentially Mazda has done what Audi did with the Q7 and Q8 without the downside of losing interior space to make it look sexier. If the Audi Q7 was available for less with a third row delete, it' be my choice over the Q8 too.

I would think that turning off the engine, especially in a hybrid, will reduce emissions. I have a RAV4 hybrid and in heavy traffic I appreciate that that engine turns off. I can then creep forward slowly on battery. This is much more relaxing and quiet. Now in larger pickups, non hybrid, with this turn off feature it gets really annoying to have the big V8 shut off at every stop sign.

EV mode is designed to drive in town which you don't really the engine to kick in, there are 2-3 seconds delay for the engine to kick in if you push really hard. If you want engine to assist more frequently for passing, you should drive in normal mode and it's very seamless for engine to kick in and shutdown, you may not even notice it unless you watch the tach.

So I have a Passport (2021), and it versus the Pilot is a very similar comparison with the Mazda.; The Passport at that time was a couple of grand more. So, your question is why sacrifice the third row? Well for one I'm single, and I wanted the J35 engine. I don't need video monitors in the backseat, nor do I want them. I don't need a com device to talk to ppl in the back rows. I just wanted a reliable, spacious Crossover that wasn't designed to haul around kids. The suspension definitely is a weak point. I confirmed the rather unrefined ride with a test drive. If Mazda claims they are now a luxury car maker, then make that ride more refined and smoother. Should of just been another trim level for the 90. Call it something like the CX-90 Sport Trim Package like how Audi has the Black Optic Package since it deletes a lot of the chrome. They should of definitely kept the 3rd row. Exactly as you mentioned, people buy a vehicle of that size for 2 things: to haul people and cargo. When youre not hauling people, fold the 3rd row down for the cargo, and when you have to haul people, fold up the 3rd row. Pretty simple.

Have had many Mazda vehicles and loved them all. This seems fantastic and I love that it was made in Japan (as were all of mine), but WHEW, you better hope anything going wrong, esp with the powertrain is under full warranty. From loosening the first bolt, to wiping down the wrenches was 25 mins to do a timing belt in my 323. Did my clutch laying on a driveway by myself, and aside from a lot of effort at least the procedure was simple and straight forward. Days like these are looooong gone. Heck, even the back spark plugs on this engine look like a nightmare from here, being so far under the firewall.
