Those floors are real wood, it's just old polyurethane that is flaking off. I had the same thing in my 1950's home. Had them sanded and refinished. It's a big pain because you essentially have to move everything out and protect everything (Clothes, cabinets, food) from all the dust. The results was great tho!

If you find yourself with some free time, you could easily make some DIY canvas art to cover that old heater. There are plenty of ideas floating around. I quite like the ones which are neutral and very textured.

Refinishing the floors would be expensive. But painting the walls would really make things look refreshed for a minimum cost. Even if you pay to have it done. I know you don’t like to paint!

The new sofa is gorgeous, très élégant! I would cover the floor with your rug and forget about it lol! And conceal the wall heater with a tall plant or slim bookshelf to the left side. Could you put your sofa in the centre of the room with the back to the bedroom? it would give you easier access to the drapes and there is plenty of room for a large console (something second hand with character) for the tv, on the big blank wall. A couple of occasional chairs on either side of the window. Maybe a large buttoned ottoman instead of a coffee table with trays for flowers, candles, books etc. Just ideas, can't help myself, the space and light is lovely in that room!

I think the floors are for sure real wood. I think they probably put a super thick coat of varnish on them for shine and that has broken down over the years. I still love them, and the rug helps too. Samson is soooo cute in his plaid coat !!! Samson might be bummed that you sold the L shaped couch because he had his own full side to help you when you're working :) You've done well with your CL sales, that is awesome. We had so much stuff backed up that I wanted to sell, and we finally did it when a bunch of stuff was closed down a couple years ago, since my husband had time to be here to help people load it up. I swear we practically furnished an entire house with what we sold. Chairs, outdoor furniture, exercise equiptment, office items. It was so nice to get rid of it. Once you sell your other stuff in the corner there you're going to feel like you have so much more room and storage in the washing machine closet. I loved the video as always.

The peeling on the floors is probably the clear coat peeling up. If it’s flakey that’s probably it. You can probably lightly sand them with high grit sandpaper. Then give them another 2 coats of clear coat. But since you’re renting the landlord should do it. Sometimes rugs transfer the gummy stuff to the floor. Maybe just lightly scraping the stuff will make the floors look better. Then use some Murphy oil soap to condition the wood. Also, in California rentals are required to have working heaters. So if the wall unit isn’t working your landlord should fix it. 😊

Buy 2 Coconut Oils @ TJoes, 1/cooking; 2/body. To save money, use 2 small Tupperware cobtainers, 1/car & 2/bathroom. Forget about the impulse shopping at the organic store. Unless you get sweatproof sheets also forget the beauty sheets. Think you reward yourself allot.

Love Samson...what a sweetie. Those are real hardwood floors! Finishes degrade. Takes a specialist to refinish, but you can do a lot with conditioning cleaner. Method makes one. Or Murphys Oil Soap.

I'm a Woman in my 40's, Single, No kids and I feel like Women like us who are 40 or older are often ignored unless we are Oprah. The reason your channel is so successful is because they're so many Women in this World like you, and no one is telling their story. Someone like you could do short films, telling our stories, and bringing to light the lives of Single, Older Women. Do you know how big that would be?!!! To redo the floors, they need to be sanded down with those big industrial sanders, restained, and then recoated with a sealant. Lot of time and effort involved. But, so worth it if you can afford to do so.

Even if you painted the walls the same color, sometimes just a fresh coat of paint can make a big difference, maybe you could do a small wall section for a pop of color.

Just had another dumping of snow friday/satuday morning have done nothing but clean and grocery shopping. Tried to make plans to have fun this weekend but no luck. I bought a new comforter this month too from Sin In Linen the Scarlet Bat comforter. I live in a hundred year old house in North Minneapolis with my husband. I am 41 though hard to believe or remember some days. I have an 11 year old puggle named Boston who is missing a bunch of teeth. We also have a cat around the same age named cat. I work in a Library. I have become even more a home body since covid.

It's the lacquer/varnish finish that peels/chips off. You can def. sand them (or get them sanded). They'll look like brand new! It would be worth it, they are beautiful! You could hang drapes over the heat thingy to hide/cover it.

A friend of mine had one of those wall gas things that you have. It didn’t work either. She used a tall dresser as her tv stand and bought a huge tv to cover it. She used the dresser to store throw blankets, dvds and books. It was pretty cute.

They're real hard wood floors. Since your building is so old, it's probably varnish which has worn away. Still, they're beautiful. The view is also beautiful. Your place has real character. It's very Parisian. Too bad that's it so noisy outside and then also that Samson is getting arthritic.

It's funny -- growing up, my parents used that "pile in the middle of the floor" tactic for cleaning. It never worked so I've always wondered if it _actually works_ for someone somewhere. 😅 Looks like it does!

Hmmm…so you don’t have an operable heater in your unit? I LOVE the new sofa, it’s such a nice color. I would put it facing the window because I would worry the direct sun would fade the fabric. 😊 I have a feeling your floors are real wood since your apartment is older. I nice rich stain and some refinishing would be nice. It would be nice if the owner painted it as well, it’s such a nice space. 😊❤

rejuvenate works great. you put in on the floor a section at a time and let it dry. it worked on our wood floor but not sure the type of wood it is. love your motivation. a little at a time and then re evaluate your items. your videos have helped me to declutter

Awww, bye old sofa! I liked it, but I also like the new one and it gives you more space. If your fabric choice is not UV protected though, you might want to put it on the other wall so it gets less sunlight. Also, I ALSO HAVE THE PEELING HARDWOOD FLOORS! 😂 And they drive me crazy. It’s not in every room either. I think the old people that had our house, either used to use some type of flooring polish or something, or they made a horrible attempt to polyurethane/protect the floors with something. I say horrible attempt because we get these yellow peeling pieces and sometimes there is hair stuck in them. 😩 We do own our home, but floor refinishing is not cheap and my back nor my husband’s knees are ready for that DIY action. So hopefully within a few years we can get it done. But, in the meantime, just cleaning them and getting the loose bits up is the only solution I have found. We got a lot of it cleaned up my kid’s room. I actually took a scraper and lightly (at maybe a 20-30 degree angle) scraped up loose bits and kinda scrubbed and cleaned it. It’s not perfect and there’s a rug in their room (takes up half the room) anyhow. I bought a rug for the living room. And for whatever reason, the dining room doesn’t have the strange peeling issue nor the hallway. BUT, there was also carpet in there when we moved in (but also in the bedrooms and living room so I dunno) so maybe those floors got protected more so. Nothing makes sense. It’s all a mystery. 😂 May we one day be blessed with buttery smooth, non-peeling hardwoods! 😊
