I like Bape but I agree with some of these points. It's a little repetitive, but it's drifted into the territory where the camo is like the LV print, Coach C's, etc. It's the signature print and it's not as common to see when you're out.

Ithk has ran the brand to the ground , quality has dropped and most the items are not even made in Japan anymore, I have old bape stuff and its holding better then the new stuff. Ive been to the IThk head office and I saw most there brands are collab driven , most bape stuff is lazy , pull up a template and fill with some print or colour ...

Agreed. We all hate to see it but it's true and you're speaking facts.They really are running timeless designs into the ground. Plus a good collab or collection from them are so hard to find these days. But I'll always keep one shark hoodie in the wardrobe as a sentimental piece ;).

Yo man I just got back to the states from my first trip to Japan and I freaking LOVED Shibuya! PARCO was awesome and I got some good stuff from some of the boutiques there. I passed by the BAPE store..... That was a very quick visit. While I might have gotten one shirt or hoodie for collections sake.... I found that the stuff I got from Radio Evangelion in PARCO to be better quality and more suited for me. Love the videos man and yes I’m already planning my next trip back to Japan. When you said Akatsuki full zip I fully realized how easy it is to make insane collabs with the brand, but they missed so hard... and honestly these days, collabs or special collections are all that is even possibly mildly interesting. Most of the collabs drop the ball completely, but maybe someday we get something exciting. I think Montblanc was okay, except for they didn't release a pen... like what is that. That's the whole point of Montblanc, what they are famous for.

I agree with your last point that it’s what you make of it. You should be mixing Bape in with your own personal style. The camo is iconic and adds some flare into militant and workwear styles. Personally I love throwing in some Bape camo with WTAPS, Neighborhood, Carhartt, Dickies and Stan Ray.

I have a question, Where did street fashion originate? The reason why I ask is because of what Bape kind of represented. In my opinion Nigo captured that fine line of something that ( Was ) original and authentic. However, like with most street wear companies they loose touch with what made their brand unique. Most companies rely on too many collaborations and don't evolve or lose touch with their roots.

I still rock Bape. However, I'm very selective of my purchases, for the reasons you've listed. The quality and much of the design has definitely fallen off. They'll take chances, but those are few & far in between. These days, I mostly look for sneakers or the occasional collab. Much of the reason I still wear the label is because it's one of the few that carry sizes I can wear. I really like a lot of Japanese labels, but it's absolute hell trying to find any that make pieces in bigger sizes. 😆

Good discussion, it's basically reasons as to why it sucks for old Bape fans. It was basically an outlet for Nigo as a Planet of the Apes and Americana fan to show his appreciation for these things, he has a vast memorabilia collection of Planet of the Apes and it showed, at least in the early part. It lost its creative direction after he sold it, it doesn't really mean the same thing now. Even when Nigo helmed it, he didn't rock Bape jeans, he wore vintage Levi's 501s because of his love of Americana. You can really see Human Made as a continuation of his vision, it has some of that old Bape aesthetic with its workwear and food focus. For me it just lost its mysteriousness and exclusiveness that made it appealing. In the 2000s you could only get it in NA via eBay shops like Pondon, CliffEdge, or stay246 or the NY store if you could get there. It was still made in Japan and there were like only 5 or so Shark colorways. Now they've cheapened it with sub-lines like Aape and you can readily get it anywhere. The quality makes it accessible, but not desirable now. Sold all my 2000s era Bape for a profit on Grailed, all that's left is my 1st camo toiletry case for travel, because why not... Hoping for good things from Human Made though. Sadly somehow even NBHD is going this way, from motorcycle, military, and Americana wear to collabs with ASSC and odd tech wear, it's losing its vision. Undercover seems to be holding its own, as does Wacko Maria, both brands with some creative ethos around music and culture.

Bape shark design will never die. I got lucky and got the last newly designed bape shark design shorts in Tokyo. I love the shorts, it's comfy and I love the design recently with the shark on the sides of the shorts rather than the front crotch area. Cant go wrong with off white either now cuz virgil died recently so I got the new pair of shoes from off white Tokyo, the guy pulled out a pair of shoes that were not even being sold yet just for me and I bought em instantly.
