They fail because lack of originality. They come up with one good piece that has people attention, but after that they just get boring quick. When 90% of streetwear is trash in quality, you at least need to come up with interesting designs otherwise no one will buy your clothes.

As a musician whos parents are musicians, who knows and was taught by musicians who had lived their whole life in the industry i can tell you that music business is 90% business 10% music. This SAME EXACT premise is relevant in any of the arts. Its all about your branding, not the art. How do you think alec Monopoly gets away with his paintings, or supreme with their designs. It is not their raw skill or even the quality of their product that makes them sell for far beyond its worth. It is the business mentality of who runs it, and the branding, name recognition, celebrity influence (think hype and iconicism), and in fact the overpricing of the item that makes it boom.

I started my first streetwear brand in 2015 sold a few T-shirt’s here and there then me and my parents stopped doing it for lack of motivation, keep in mind we had not thought about the brand in a business way, like getting LLC , trademark etc. A year went buy and I start another one by myself, I had the knowledge of how screen printing, sewing, graphic designing worked but still did not have the knowledge of a business, I sold few shirt here and there but again lack of motivation stopped me for going further, I really liked that brand but it was too much like me, in other words I was designing for me and not for an audience, In mids 2017 I took a course on business management, marketing and I took a break to study the top brands and designers to have a better understanding on people they were targeting, So now going into 2018 I’m pretty confident and know everything from every single type of blank T-shirt to almost every single type of fabric to do cut and sew, also thru out those 3 years of experimenting I learned A LOT of stuff I don’t know and that has help me a lot this time, I regained the idea of starting another brand this coming up year , and I already started working on a business plan , marketing plan , the amount of money I will have to spend to lunch it , and the amount of money I will have in profit , taxes in USA are very important too, this is a business and little things that you learn thru out the years finally collide together and soon you realize that without those experiences you wouldn’t be were you are right now, so the key is HUNGER AND PATIENCE,

I think most brands fail, not because of lack of marketing or business planning, but lack of co-signs. Almost every brands that people buy “for the brand name”, has artists or celebrities closely attached...So it appears to be a matter of being “in the club”, rather than merit that proves success.

I see sooooooo many pop up, and sometimes they charge too much. They say it’s to create a premium for their brand, but the truth is they don’t create a value beyond the price. No attempt at a good color palette, interesting design or logo. I saw a indie brand tie dye yesterday that charged $100 for a very basic shirt. The quality was Target. On the other hand, it made me develop a finer palette for materials and color schemes.

Real talk brother most brands fail because of the lack of business strategy also they just do things and hope that it would work out but to gain success there has to be a method behind the madness.

I noticed a lot of startups now have a huge center on graphic design, and what I mean by that is it’s usually artists taking their art and putting it on a gildan shirt in square format. Nothing wrong with it, at least it’s original artwork, but I wish there was a little more creativity into how the artwork blends onto a shirt. And then you have startup instagram brands that take Aliexpress designs and mark them up to resell. 😂

Okay. Seriously last comment: I just got to the end of the video. I think the main things street brands get wrong is that they don’t know what branding really means. They just think slapping a logo on a shirt is a brand. In fact most marketers don’t know what a brand mean. A brand is a suppose to represent a story or idea. A lot of people slap a logo on a product

i started my brand in march and i’ve been doing everything myself. it’s been a hell of a ride but i’ve actually gained a little bit of success in my city, even selling to a couple different states as well. i guess you just have to be really dedicated if you want to do it, and that’s why it’s been working for me i’d say.

Most repeatable mistake we see is that brands forget that your clothing line is the uniform your community wears. Without a community is far less sustainable. ALSO when new brands start off with an "I can do this by myself" mentality.

When you have got your brand and logo, is the first thing to do before printing and selling is to get your brand and logo registered?

Because its all a bunch of ill fitting T shirts, thin joggers, and yeezy type footwear. The same wack ass shit over and over. Just like the music its assosciated with. 1 year and then on to the next one.

I thought this was gonna be discouraging but I actually run a business right now and I know what all of this is. Work ethic is definitely #1 key to success. Also, you have to know how to learn new skills. You can have a great work ethic but you have to do the right kind of work. Like learning the ins and outs of clothing design, manufacturing, sourcing, etc. is a lot of WORK! If you made some tshirts and just sold them on the street for 10hrs a day I don’t think that your business is going grow very fast.

There's too many generic labels, that claim to be streetwear, even though they're doing the same thing as everyone else. Streetwear is rooted in individuality and the expression of it but what people call streetwear now isn't authentic. How about talking to the community you're addressing with 3D models before manufacturing. Shows how many are interested and you won't have to deal with products not selling. Thought about this for a while now.

Two Years in and im still at it see quality instead of quantity and focusing on a particular target audience the ultimate thing @Bigdreams_clothing numbers dont matter as much as being original and quality

I'm in the screen printing & embroidery business and I have my own brand (outcome threads.com). I print for many other brands that wither away within 6 months due to quality, price, no originality, lack of marketing....thinking Facebook will get them somewhere. Consistency is the key, and please don't walk into my office wanting to start a brand and start off with the words "I don't know...I just want to do shirt"...
