The Gary/Gerry thing is understandable, but McDormand is a contemporary figure, a famous person more or less. And it's not some name brought in from a foreign language either, not really.

He wasn't right. It's the same kind of thing as the change in pronunciation from "Quixote" to "quixotic". The "x" changes phonemes, just as the "g" in Gerry (pronounced the same as "Gary") and gerrymander (pronounced the same as "jerry"mander) changes phonemes.

He'd just gotten burned--unjustly--on the Mcdormand question. Alex was being really weird with him here--it really feels like personal hostility--and it's little wonder he's defensive.

I agree. I didn’t like him glad he lost the tournament of champions and his 12th episode. Glad he didn’t become close to beating Ken Jennings back then. He was the worst.
